| Lesser Town |

| |
Lesser Town is one of the most beautiful, quiet and calm districts of Prague. It is situated ob the bank of the Vltava River, on the crossroad of two most important trade routs leading from the royal district Hradcany to Petrin hills. The first record about the Lesser Town belongs to the 12th century and it is considered that, it was founded by the king Premysl Otakar the II. The Royal Road lies through the district. The kings had to cross the road before ascending the Czech throne.

The Lesser Town Square is the most famous and most visited place of the district. The residence of Czech aristocracy and beautiful cathedrals built in various architectural styles are situated on the square. In the centre of the square rises the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, built in 1283. Currently the cathedral is rebuilt in baroque style. The towers of the cathedral 79 meters high can be seen from various parts of Prague. The building of Jesuitical board is situated near the cathedral. Nowadays here is situated physic-mathematical faculty of Karlov University. The Sternberk Castle is one the most magnificent buildings on the square. It was built by the famous Italian architect Giovanni Aliprandi in 1684. Many small twisting streets scatter from the square in various directions. Some of them lead upon to the Prague Castle; the others run down to the embankment and lead to the Old Town. We offer you accommodation in this district: for example in Aria Hotel *****, Trziste 9, Prague – gorgeous hotel with the highest level of service, situated on the street famous since the medieval ages.
