Czech Krumlov is one of the most beautiful cities on the territory of Czech Republic- It is included into the list of Unesco World Heritage. It can be called the manual of architecture, as you can see here all styles that were used in building in early and later Middle Ages: Roman style, goties, renaissance, sgraffito, baroque. Historical part of the city is the second biggest and most important fortress on the territory of Czech Republic.
The building of city hall, House of Golden Crown, Historical building of Hotel Rose, Wind Gates, The St. Vita’s cathedral – the variety of buildings that will amaze all the travelers. Small narrow streets, magnificent ancient cathedrals, the castle moat with the bears, tiny well-groomed houses, the history of each of them can be told for hours, friendly citizens – when the tourists get appear in such atmosphere they feel themselves like in a fairy – tale.
The first notes about the fortress belong to the 13th century. They tell that on the Vltava River, in picturesque place, where the river makes a sudden turn and its river-bed creates an island, was situated residence of powerful ancient family of Vitkovichy. Czech Krumlov received the status of the city at the end of 13th century, in 1273, during the consolidation of the fortress and trade settlement, situated on the opposite side of the river.
The origin of the city names comes from German «die krumme Au» - crooked meadow, which is reminiscent of the city location as regards to the river.
Czech Krumlov very often changed its owner: Vitkovichi, Rojembergs, Schwarzenbergs, but unigue charm of the city has always wondered the travelers.
Each summer, from 16th till 18th of July, the citizens of Czech Krumlov celebrate the holiday of 5-leaves rose. It is famous all over the world due to the dramatized performances, knight’s battles and amazing festive parade. This year the holiday celebrates its 20th century anniversary, local citizens wear ancient costumes, fairs with sweets and souvenirs are organized and musical concerts and plays are held in the evening.
In any season of the year you can find here various types of entertainment, but if you come here in summer, you will discover a rich variety of active sports activities, rafting in picturesque valley of river, cycling, walks e.t.c.
