The exhibition centre is called BVV and gathers lots of foreign and Czech companies, organizations and tourists, every week. That explains a huge number of hotels and pensions situated near the centre. The history of the city is very interesting. One of most spread names of Brno is Moravian Paris. In times of ruling of Gabsburg dynasty the city was called Brunn, from the ancient Czech word «brneni», which means armor that knights putted on in the battles. First notes about the city are dated by 9th century. In historical chronicles the fortified settlement is described. The settlement formed around the ancient fortress Spilberg, which protected the country from the attacks of avarian tribes. In 1244, Brno received the status of city and since than forms important cultural and trading centre of Czech lands.
