I will be flying to Arizona on Tuesday and plan to purchase some new magazines and bring with a word search book. What do you do to entertain yourself on a flight? Or do you sleep while you are flying through the air?
[question posted by jillhill]
responses and comments:
I always bring a new book, I don't even start it until the plane takes off. Granted, sometimes I sleep for the entire flight. LOL [quiltedblessings]
I know. I hope to sleep some while in flight! Makes the journey go so much faster! [jillhill]
I usually bring a good book. But it depends on the time of day and the length of the flight. If it is late or early then I might try to get in some sleep. It's hard though because I usually can't find a comfortable position, lol. [jonesy123]
Yes...the seats aren't any too wide are they! LOL [jillhill]
I usually bring a book and my iPod :) [pixelpixie]
Both are a very good choice. [jillhill]
I just can't sleep on flights. I enjoy flying, I don't get nervous or anything, but just can't sleep. I can't sleep in a car, either. I always take my music to listen to, a book or magazine, and a notebook and pen. I tune out everybody else (especially the screaming kid that is present on every flight I have ever taken) and I read or write. It passes the time fairly fast for me. [vicneedscoffee]
Those give you lots of options to entertain yourself! [jillhill]
I always bring books and magazines with me with the intention of reading, but something about reading on a plane instantly puts me to sleep, and I never get very far on what I'm reading. I also used to bring movies when I had my laptop, but it's too hard to watch them. Not ever comfortable having the screen so low and close. [dfn12968]
This is a great idea for us though, we can put a movie on the laptop to entertain our squirt, she can wear headphones =) I might bring a journal and write in that a little. [mommyboo]
I can't sleep when I fly, no matter how tired I am. I wish I always remembered to bring a book, but it's kind of a nuisance keeping track of it. Some flights have DVD's going all the time and you can't get one moment to yourself because of the distraction. I like to sit on the aisle seat and then I don't feel as trapped, reducing my need for a book. [anawar]
I am opposite.....I love the window seats! LOL [jillhill]
I bring along my nintendo ds, plug in the headphones, and go at it. I have to focus on something besides the flight or I will drive myself crazy. [Sonadora]
I might bring a little hand held game too..that would be distracting. [jillhill]
Soundslike fun...I usually take a crossword puzzle to work on. After getting the puzzle half done, I fall asleep! I guess it is too draining on my brain! [perrytx]
Ah...good way to catch a few zzzzzzz's! [jillhill]
I often take some magazines . But when i was flying ,i sleeped soundly . When i arrived my destination,i was also sleeping. Thanks to my mother, she woke me up. If you like me,i think you don't need take anything. [kl8yang]
So i think i can became your teacher . (^_^) [kl8yang]
I"m a frequent traveller myself..I never forget to bring my favorite books to read while on flight or even magazine which I seldom done while back home for im really so busy.If my flight is really a long haul one then i do watch movies in my laptop oe watch movies in the screen provided by the plane..but the best thing for me to entertain myself is to read..so for your travel just bring your favorite magazine or book surely you will not be bored flying...good luck to your trip... [janebernal]
I can't sleep while on a plane. I've tried over and over again and it never happens. I flew to Arizona a month ago and was lucky enough to sit next to people who were so friendly and we talked the 3 hours while on the plane. I did take an afghan I am Knitting for another grandbaby who will be here in November. I was able to work on it a very short time flying out to Arizona. Enjoy your trip and be safe, carolbee [carolbee]
THanks Carol....I hope I get good company next to me. I would like to do some handy work too but for some reason I can't concentrate while I am on a flight...Glad you got a little done! [jillhill]
I have only flown Jet Blue and they have cable t.v.But If I were to fly without t.v. , I would bring either a book or word puzzles. [sarahruthbeth22]
That's nice they have cable! I have never flown Blue Jet. Thanks for sharing. [jillhill]
i could never sleep when on a plane . i bring a book, writing pad, and music . Most times i just will daydream tho haha [metschica25]
I like doing that too! And looking out into the clouds! [jillhill]
i usually just buy some magazines and catch up on all the celebrity gossip.i also take one of my books to read as well.i do not usualy have a great deal of time to actually read on the plane as it is only 1 hour to fly ,but it is the waiting around the airport i need to fill in time.cheers sue [suehan1]
That is true. I have a lay over so that's when I really need to fill my time.. [jillhill]
Yes, I do bring something for me to get entertained. Since the topic is pertaining to travel via air, I would bring along a good book that I can read and my music player as well. I don't really sleep while traveling, as long as it is just a short distance travel. May it be through air, land or sea.. [raijin]
Right.....I don't like to sleep on a plane either! [jillhill]
i will sleep or read magazines, occasionally, look outside,by then, the whole city is in your sight. [loveyouandme]
Yes...I love the landing and watching the landscapes..... [jillhill]
I either take a local newspaper or a crossword puzzle book for the flights. I don't fly often though and when I do it's short flights. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ [webeishere]
Thanks for sharing! [jillhill]
i just usually listen to music on my cell, or fall asleep or just keep staring out of the window at the clouds . [fizanali]
Yes....I like looking out of the windows.....LOL....a long time ago there was a movie and there were men on the wings of this plane that was going normal speed for a jet...when I look out the window I always think of that movie! [jillhill]
I have only flown twice in my life...I am 65...but when I did, I was so facinated with the scenery...I had a window seat both times, I watched the tops of the clouds and whatever I could see. The other times that I have flown...I am too busy trying to steer my "broom"....haha [KarenLO]
You silly goose! [jillhill]
Firstly enjoy your flight and have a wonderful time. I always take a book but if I am sat next to somebody interesting will have conversation during most of the flight and read the book before I go to bed where ever I am staying. Even when I flew from UK to LA I didn't sleep, chatted, read a while, ate. Ellie :D [ellie333]
Enjoy the read, enjoy the flight and enjoy your visit. Ellie :D [ellie333]
I usually bring a book or magazine. I generally content my self with the inflight magazine and the on board entertainment, I'm not very fussy when it comes to entertainment. I can entertain myself pretty easily. [snowy22315]
I get antsy watching time go by and waiting for the moment I arrive at my destination! I am sooo excited to go and see my daughter! I have a hard time concentrating on anything. [jillhill]
NO no books , i think i will be busy enjoying myself watching sexy & hot air-hostesses. :) Cheers. [vaibhavmeswani]
instead of saying i read this book and that boook , i bring this book and that book , who has seen who really read which book , i told what i do when i m in flight .. hahah [vaibhavmeswani]
hello jillhill have a wonderful time while that you are gone to Arizona and i for one will miss you around here at Mylot while that you are away. and yes, when i get to fly, which isn't often at all, i will purchase me a book or a some kind of a puzzle book as well. and some gum never hurts to have around either. i do not think that you get much to eat on airplanes anymore or depending on how far that you fly maybe. my folks fly alot from Tennessee to Oregon and into Nevada, and they say they about starve them to death on the airplane. so if they have a lay over or something for a couple of hours, they always grab them a burger or something from inside the airport restaurants. i do not know if one is allowed to carry food on board the airplane or not. have a beautiful time in Arizona! [RLFinNash]
I'll be in Wisconsin for five days...but that's not until after I spend a week in arizona. [jillhill]
I personally have trouble sleeping on planes. So I usually bring something to entertain myself. The length of the flight determines what I bring. If it's a longer flight, I bring my personal DVD player and watch movies. But for all flights, I usually bring my mp3 player to listen to music, a crossword puzzle book, and maybe a book to read. I have even been known on occasion to bring my laptop (well, it's required for business trips) and either do work or play games. [reg415]
Sounds like you have it covered! Thanks for posting! [jillhill]
I can't remember the last time that I took a flight anywhere. I would have to bring a crossword puzzle if I were flying any distance though or I would go crazy. [jer31558]
Me too. I have to have something to keep myself busy...I am not used to just sitting somewhere for any length of time not doing a thing! It's too boring! LOL [jillhill]
These days my toddler has been my entertainment. Let me correct myself, I am her entertainment to keep her from annoying all the other passengers. Before her, when I flew solo, I would pack magazines and my iPod. If I stayed up long enough I woud read but generally end up falling asleep for most of the flight. [emma412]
I bet she does keep you busy! LOL... [jillhill]
I do bring a lot of things to keep me busy while on flight. I easily get bored so I really need to bring as many things possible. I do word searches and sudoku. I also bring a book to read. Of course, I also sleep while flying but not that much. Maybe an hour or two would do. [dolce_vita78]
I like the word searches because you can easily take a break unlike a book when you have to try to figure out where you left off if you put it down before the end of a chapter! LOL...thanks for posting. I appreciate it! [jillhill]
Unfortunately,I have not been on a flight.Hehehe.Maybe i will post this discussion again after done it [jyjnl_jia]
I'll be waiting for your response! LOL... [jillhill]
I would bring a walkman cd player and some interesting books. I would enjoying my reading while listening to light music. [curious888]
That's a very good idea. [jillhill]
I brings books and magazines, but hopefully I'm traveling with someone. I'd like to be able to talk to someone while I'm on the plane. If I don't have a traveling companion I could always to talk to my neighbor across the way, but sometimes those people aren't too chatty. I just leave them alone to sleep. But don't dare recline, you'll hit someone's knees! LOL Unless you're in first class. [AmbiePam]
Yes, I bring entertainment. She is small with curly brown hair and big brown eyes. She just turned two years old this month. Actually I think I have it backward. I am her entertainment! I spend the whole flight trying to keep her busy so she doesn't disturb any of the other passengers. She has been on around 20-25 planes since she was born. She only cried on one in all that time. I don't think she was feeling good. I also made sure I scheduled flights around her natural sleep schedule. Flying late at night was the only time she would get upset. So I stayed away from late flights. [moneyandgc]
I will be bringing entertainment too! See the little curly haired girl in my profile photo? LOL! She's only flown once, ok well twice before, but the first time she was all of several thousand cells (I was barely pregnant, like literally 2 or 3 days) and the second time she was an infant. She's four and a half now and very very inquisitive. I bet she will be asking questions the entire flight. [mommyboo]
Just something to read and I'm ready to go! Still, boring. [BjFreeland]
It is boring isn't it? [jillhill]
usually i dont bring anything to read during the flight..what i did is pray during the duration ..since im scared when im up loland think of so many things that i seen on movies especially on crashing or whatever.. [vanities]
Although I don't fly anywheres I always take things with me when I travel...even it's just around town. I can't stand to sit still for long and it helps if I have something to keep me occupied. Anything from magazines to a notepad to write down MyLot ideas. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~ [twoey68]
That is a very good idea! A little notebook or something to jot things down! [jillhill]
What else? A book. Of course I make sure there are no plane crashes in it. [patms1]
Good idea! LOL [jillhill]
i haven't flew for more than an hour but what i usually do when i'm on the plane is sleep or if i'm not sleepy, i'd be watching the sky or read a magazine. happy if its gonna be a long flight, i think i would sleep through it. i like sleeping when i'm in a long travel. wink [secretbear]
I like to sleep a bit too....my last flight I took when we left Denver everyone on the plane slept...it was very weird.. [jillhill]
i am flying back to manila this coming october, and since i am travelling with my son i will first bring a portable dvd player and hi5 dvd and movies to entertain my son... then i dont have to worry if he feel bord... coz he's a hi5 addict lolz! then i will bring my ipod so i can listen to music, play some games on my fon...bring some magazine as well... [jHoEn16]
You will really be entertained! Good for you! [jillhill]
yeah.I have something to read or play [asawanialvin0611]
REading is a good passtime! [jillhill]
i usually take a book with me to read [barbie84]
Good evening, dear jillhill. When I travel on a plane, the very thing I love to bring with me for entertainment is my tiny digital camera because I love to take photos of the beautiful blue sky high up above the earth. I always try to take as many photos as I can. hehe. [williamjisir]
Good morning, my dear friend. Here I have already uploaded one of the photos that I took while I was travelling on a plane for you to have a look at. Thanks and have a good day. [williamjisir]
When I go on a plane I take: Sweets Notebook and pen (don't know why) Newspaper mag Book that I'm currently reading Mag of Japanese number puzzles like Kakuro [petalporridge]
All are very good things to bring with to entertain yourself with....I bring pencil and paper too! LOL [jillhill]
Bring your ipod, psp, to relieve tensions in flying... [gelotan]
Definately an ipod! [jillhill]
On my most recent long flight, I brought along a book with me. I read while travelling on a plane. I also enjoy the movie in-flight and listening to music with headphones on. My favorite past time while on board is sleeping, of course. LOL [MariaD]
I do like sleeping too! LOL [jillhill]
I look fr the window, only. xD [carlosmp]
That works too! [jillhill]
yes, my daughter !! you can take her along if you want some entertainment !!! jokes apart, I buy a book from the airport, carry an i-pod and even a sudoku at times. If you are travelling alone, these can be sufficient entertainment, but when you fly with a toddler like mine who suddenly decides that the airplane is the best place to make friends and keeps on leaning towards the seat in the front and in the back to trouble those other passengers, all you end up doing is wrestle throughout to keep her in the seat. I sleep whenever she sleeps, out of sheer exhaustion ! [serenidity]
Ah I bet that is a challenge!!!!! My three year old granddaughter wanted to come on vacation to Arizona with me.....I told her daddy she should go with them for her first flight! LOL....I don't think I would have had enough energy! [jillhill]
We'll be flying in Sept likely and I will probably bring a few magazines and a book, an mp3 player for myself and my daughter etc. I'll probably also bring her some coloring books, a travel magnadoodle, maybe a handheld game. My husband will probably bring the laptop in his carryon and I'll have my cell, it has an airplane setting. Since I won't be traveling alone, I probably will not really need these things but better to have them than not. I have not slept on a plane that I remember. The last time I flew I had an infant with me, and the time before that I spent most of the flight plugged in to a portable cd player, the time before that I got sick lol. [mommyboo]
That's for sure...it's better to be prepared! [jillhill]
