Or do you just depend on your ATM card. I travel two hours to work everyday. I very often forget to check the amount of cash that is there in my purse. This specially happens on Mondays because I am at home on Sunday and sometimes have finished all my cash. I have my ATM card in my purse always and just withdraw money from the nearest ATM when I need the cash. But sometimes I forget and if I have to suddenly spend for sometime I am in a fix. Do you always check your cash when you leave home?

Before I leave home for something I will check my purse first, that is very important, because if I need some money to spend and there is not enough money for me to use, so embrassed. I take my ATM card with me too, that is for if the cash is not enough I can get the money immediately from the ATM. [sophia1984]
During weekends I make sure I have sufficient cash in my purse but during the week I am so busy with work and home that very often I have forgotton to withdraw cash for expenses. Luckily I have the ATM both near my home and near my office but in between while travelling one day I may get into trouble because I have often travelled without any cash in my purse. [mayka123]
Hi, Well yes i do carry a lot of cash with me. I prefer cash as its hassle free. And i know what iam spending and there are no such hidden costs, which we often face while using credit cards. Actually i have to pay my workers after they finish their job everyday and thus i need to carry a good amy of cash with me to my sites (construction). Carrying ATM cards is a very good habit. But i seldom use it. Cheers, Tutul [tutul0045]
I avoid the use of credit cards. I only use a debit card/ATM card as this gives us a control on our expenses. in this world of ATMs i feel it is unnecessary to risk ourselves by carrying cash i our hands. its always a better option to use the card. but this has a negative point. people go out with plans to buy for (say) 1000. but then on the shop the desire is to buy more. so they end up buying for 1500 or 2000 as the credit card can be used. had they carried cash they would have not been able to spend more than what amount they carry. might be they would have spent 1100 or 1200. this is practical one and is happening every where. if u have self control then card is best. also beware of cheaters who can misuse your card. I travel by train to work everyday and very often we have sales women coming to sell something. A couple of days back I liked some nice artificial jewellery that a woman was selling but realized I had no cash in my purse. It is at times like this that I have a problem. Otherwise with so many ATM centres around I can swipe my card anywhere and get cash. I avoid using my credit card and only depend on my debit card for expenses. [mayka123]
Hi dear, I never carry a lot of cash while traveling. My office is not far from home so there is not much cash needed. It took only 20 mints to reach and I need only Rs. 10/-as the travel charges (including both sides). So far I never faced any problem and if I need money I will get the money from my colleagues so I am not much bothered about the same. If I go out I will make a plan and keep the money accordingly. [Sreekala]
My office is not near from home. But we have a monthly pass to travel by train so I do not need cash everyday. But one day a saleswoman came in the train and one of my friends like the dress that the saleswoman was selling. After selecting what she liked she realized she did not have any cash in her purse. And neither did I! At that time I realized that I do not keep a tab on the amount of cash that I have in my purse. I was not much bothered before because I always have my ATM with me. And in the office the accountant is always there to give cash. But the ATM is finally not useful everywhere! [mayka123]
I may not be knowing, how much exact cash I am carrying in my wallet, but I do keep a broad idea about the cash, which I am carrying, specially, when going outside me home or coming to office. I normally keep substantial amount in my wallet, thinking that one never knows, when the emergency of spending money on the way can come. Besides, I also carry my ATM and credit cards with me. When I see that I can successfully use either my Debit or Credit card at an outlet, I do not spend the cash in my pocket. If I see the amount is smaller say Rs.100 to 200, I use my debit card of if I see the amount is hefty say more than one thousand, I use my credit card. I use cash only, where cards are not accepted. I find it is very eash and convenient to use Debit cards, you do not need to bother about randering the exact change to the shopkeeper. Good Post!happy [dpk262006]
I have got into trouble a few times because of this habit of not checking my wallet regularly. But I think it will take some time for me to learn. [mayka123]
I have more cash on me when I travel than when I am at home but usually use my debit card. I feel it is safer and don't like to carry alot of cash anyway. It is definitely more convenient. It depends on where I am traveling also. If we are just going on vacation to visit family it would be only a small amount of cash. If I was going to a place like Las Vegas it would be substantially more. [ryzach]
I too use my debit card most of the time. But the card is not accepted everywhere. And then when I suddenly want to buy something I like and I cannot swipe my card there I regret not having suffecient cash with me. This has happened to me very often as I always seem to forget checking the cash on me when I leave the house. [mayka123]
I just carry a little cash for the basic spending and prefer to take my cards.the first thing I do after coming back is paying the amount I have spent by swiping the card to escape from the extraordinary interest rate which may kill the joy of traveling.happy [balasri]
Yeah the card sure is a double edged sword. You got to know how to use it wisely. [balasri]
It really depends where I travel. I generally like to buy foreign currency before I leave. This way I have it right away and it is usually cheaper. If I travel in Canada then I will just use my debit card. I sometimes bring travellers checks if I'm going somewhere for a while. I take a lot of cash but I don't want to take too much in case of robbery. I am very careful with it though. I keep it locked in my safe at the hotel. I have a little cointainer on a string that I put around my neck and under my clothing if I have to carry a large amount around with me. Normally on a day to day basis it doesn't matter. I have my debit and my credit card if I am really stuck. [Monkeyrose]
The debit card is indeed a blessing for us as we can use it practically everywhere and do not need to carry too much cash on us. I like the idea of you carrying your cash under your clothing. I think this is a very safe way of carrying your money around. [mayka123]
Well, if I don't go somewhere far, I carry some money I think would be enough for me, like about 100 RMB. If I plan to travel to a distant place, I always carry with me a large amount of cash. Because money is just so important, and we have to depend on it. Without enough money, we are sometimes placed in an embarrassed situation. The time when I don't have much mone in my purse, I tend to feel like lacking confidence. But whenever I go, I carry my credit card or debit card with me in case I may run of out the cash. [chenxiaoyue_713]
No I use my card for pretty much everything unless I have to draw cash out and then it is used straight away for its purpose - I feel much safer just using my card than carrying money around [frankiecesca]
I normally carry my ATM or Debit card when I am travelling long distance otherwise I carry cash. I have sufficinet cash for small expenses. For a major expenditure I use the debit card. Most of the mqajor expenses I meet online but net trensfer. Debit card is very handy while travelling so that you do nto have to carry a lot of cash. [mercuryman3a]
I hardly every carry a lot of cash with me. I have an ATM card that I use. I carry just a few bills mostly $1 bills. I would carry these because we had vending machines at work, and you need change or bills for that. When purchasing items from a store or for paying for gas I would use my ATM card. [Chevee]
well it depends upon the distance you are travelling. if i'm going to office and the travel time is just 1 hr then there is no point of carrying a lot of money only the atm cards and less money will be ok. but someone travels a long distance then he must have to carry money for his food for emergency expenditures. because you never know when your rear tire will get flat. when your gasket will burst. aprt from that if someone is in his holiday then he will carry as much money is required as to but things/shopping for transport.but since an international debit card is much more easier and safer than the real money. so why not go for plastic money? [sunil_008]
I donot depend on my ATM card very often but carry necessary cash. Caus the cash is very convinent, though you may say it's a little unsafe. However, the card just take very little room, but we cannot find a ATM sometimes, especially when you encount an impotant situation. [victoria_yf]
I do not carry much cash. I prefer using the bank debit/credit card as if it is lost and someone uses the money from my account, it is replaced. I have all of the contents of my wallet scanned into my computer. I emailed a copy to me and saved it in special folder. I emailed a copy to my sister, too. Then I have a copy in my safe and when I travel keep a copy separate from my purse, in case I cannot get to a computer to look it up (why I email it to myself). I try not to withdraw money, just use it as a credit card so I can earn reward points. I have to use it as credit and not debit, to get the points. [nanajanet]
I usually try and keep within $100 in my wallet wherever I go. Often it is less than that. The money is usually for small buys. If I spend more than $20 buying something in the shops or restaurants, I will usually use my credit card to pay even if I have the cash. Since such cards are accepted quite widely by merchants, I usually have no problem paying by that means. So my $100 or less in my wallet is usually sufficient for general use. Still I do a quick check of my wallet each time I am about to leave the home to ensure I have some cash with me. [lexus54]
well, i see to it that i bring enough cash when i go out. i hate looking for some banks to withdraw some money when its needed. especially some small shops here dont accept credit cards, but when i travel i only bring few cash and let the card do all the money thing. we had a bad experience during our first tour bringing a lot of cash. [chariana10]
I like to take some cash with me when I go out as a "just in case" type of thing. Normally I use a debit card, but you can't use them everyplace. I don't cram my wallet full of cash though, that's for sure! [CremeAndSugar]
I always try to carry at least a small amount of cash on me. But never try to carry large amounts. [tammytwo]
I believe it would depend on which country you live. I used to live in the Philippines where cash on hand is always a must. You pay the taxi, the public utility vehicles, shops and vendors in cash. Now, you don't need to do that here in the US since ninety-nine percent everything here can be paid thru credit card. Bringing ten to twenty bucks just in case and you will be fine. I don't think it is advisable to just go to any ATM machines because you will have to pay charges for every withdrawal you make so it is not just a waste of time but a waste of money too. I think you should withdraw it in your bank at your most convenient time. [hibiscus_mel]
i don't travel but always check my money before i go to the grocery or somewhere like that. i'm a stay at home not always by choice. [ANTIQUELADY]
Before I leave my house I check I have money in my purse and the amount will suit what I plan to do. If I run out of money I can always go the ATM machine to get some more money from my bank account. I really love to travel and when I began traveling I used traveler's checks. However I found that banks often charged me a lot to cash them. When I went around the world I took traveler's checks and money. I opened a bank account in Australia because I had a working holiday visa. I had money put into my account there regularly. Nowadays I travel and take money and my ATM card. When I was in Guatemala I hid my money in five different places for Safety reasons. [maximax8]
I often carry a certain amount of cash, but not too much, most of the times less than 300 bucks Often times I can use my credit card when I am need to spend a lot of money on something. So I do not need a lot of cash, and credit card much more safer than to carry huge cash around all the time. [mklaw999]
i just check a little bit amount of money with me in my pocket so i donw just have to take out he atm or big notes to give some grocery shop or a beggar or a street lyin lay man so i think you should carry some amount of loose cash and some cents with you that will be helpful to you and lets what happens in new year heard about a lot happening in 2009 lets wait and watch [onemanshow]
When I do travel I do carry cash with me it seems as if is it easier. Even though it is a big repsonsibility. I normally have cash and my ATM card. I just have to make sure that I do not put my belongings down and leave them. [agrant10]
No, I would not carry cash there are ATM's every where and it is always better to use credit cards because if there is a problem we can always fight back but with cash that is not possible and we might get picketed so carry lot of cash is not safe may be few dollars like 1's or 5's. [eshwarik]
No, I dont always check mycash situation when I leave home because my debit card is accepted in so many places. But if I am taking a trip I make sure I have enough cash to get by if I cant use my card. Like when I take my cruise I will use my card on the ship, but I will only have cash for my off shore excursions. [jess368]
No I don't really carry much cash. The most I may carry is like a thousand dollars at one time. In times like these you have to be extra careful. I don't really need to spend much money and if I am going to shop then I may carry a lot of money but I'll travel in groups with my friends. [zackyo7]
Thats really an interesting question. Whenever i travel i am always aware of the amount of money that i have to keep. Everyone knows, to carry big amount of cash is very risky. According to me i will always prefer carry a little amount of money, and use ATM card when requires more money. [shahanas]
Yes, mayka. I always check the money in my wallet before leaving out for work or going out from home. I always make sure that I have enough. But I do not carry big amounts, only good enough for whatever purpose I go out. Should I be needing more, I withdraw from my ATM account or I use my credit card.happy [jpso138]
I do not carry a lot of money when I travel. Not even when I go to a faw away place. I usually carry a couple of credit cards and debit cards with me so I do not run out of money that easily. A lot of stores, gas stations, diners and restaurants where I live accept those plastic things so I do not have to carry a lot of cash with me. I feel safer that way. [alindahaw]
Well When ever I go out I always check my purse and always keep a minumum amount of cash with me,and also my ATM card.I always do all the home Shopping myself, and so I try to do my shopping and also pay my bills when I go out.Pooling a couple of tasks saves me a lot of time and travel too.....And considering the price of all commodites that we use or needsits no surprise, that I often end up with an empty purse on my way back. And then I often have to fill the petrol tank of my car too,and very often my ATM card comes in handy......happy [Roseo8]
I would recommend that when traveling even close to home that you carry a travelers check, this is a safe and easy way to asure you have money and keeps you more protected than just carrying normal cash. [allenp_2007]
I rarely go out buy anything so I do keep some cash with me but only about $ 20 or so. I think it's a good idea to carry cash instead of plastic these days because the bank charges quite an amount for admin fee including atm and checks. [LittleMel]
I rarely carry cash aroung - I usually just rely on my ATM card. [kellys3ps]
absolutely no its very risky to carry lots of money with us. When i step out to my home i just carry few cents n prefer to have some plastic money with us [sumeghagupta]
i love travel. & i m always carrying my purse because i don't believe on ATM spacially when i go outside from city like village side. last time when i was go my home town its near to agra i reach where at early morning in winter around 4 am & when i come out from bus their is dark folk i cant'd anble to see anybody & i need moeny. because i fully depend on my ATM but in that condition how i can search ATM machine & that time i hav't suficient money that i can my home accually my is far 20 km from bus stand. i was waiting on bus stop for finish folk. [hotsatya]
When I go out, I always make sure I have enough money in my wallet aside from my ATM and credit cards. My wallet is something I never forget when going out because before I go to bed the previous night, I already put it in the bag/purse I'm going to use the next day. I don't want to get too stressed out when I'm at the malls so I always make sure everything's in place, most especially my wallet. [crazyoverpurple]
I hardly carry cash with me while traveling. Just the minimum I would require on my way and that's it. I think plastic money is a great technology and it helps us in ways more than one. ATM and Debit card come in handy anytime. I would rather prefer those, unless I am going to village. happy [mimpi1911]
Hi mayka well, i alway keep reasonable amount of cash with me, i also carry my ATM card as well as my credit card. but still i check and make sure that i have sufficient cash with me all the time. Take care [cupid74]
I always travel budget and try to do all the main expenses before leaving like buying Tickets and booking accomodation so I never need to carry too much money with me. Anyway I prefer to use the card a keeping the cash for the places where you can not pay with cards. I used to carry more when I had a card only for emergencies. [overwings]
I always have cash with me while traveling since I have my own car and it is difficult If car trouble occur. If I need to buy big items in the shopping mall, I did not bring a lot of money on my pocket, I used credit card instead and then pay the whole amount before the due date. This is for Security reason. [agihcam]
yes i always have my ATM card in my purse and daily check my bank account online. this keeps me have good knowledge about my balance and all transaction done. i never carry a lot of money. in our place there are pick pocketers in the crowd watching out our wallets so it is unsafe to carry money. [yoursonlyurs]
yes always. carry enough cash together with the ATM card for anything unplanned to happen. but it's safe to carry lots of cash nowdays for the thieves and the ATM card also not safe enough,...that's a big problem nowdays. [celebratelifeh]
It's DEBIT card that goes best with my style. I feel uncomfortable to carry cash with me. I really do not need to check my purse before leaving home because the balance is always small, and I remember it very well. whenever it goes below a cut-off limit, I refill it using my DEBIT Card. I am fortunate to say I have not faced a situation like you have mentioned till now. [nilzerous1]
Since there are a lot of ATMs around the island I do not feel the need to carry big amount of cash on me. I just take what is needed. Usually I don't carry on me more than 20 Euros on me. It's not the first time tha I forget where I leave my wallet. [ronaldinu]
I usually carry cash with me for one simple reason, I don't have an ATM card neither a credit card for that matter. Credit card is very tempting. As what most people say, once you got it, you can't help it. Personally, I rather carry cash when I'm on travel mode because it will discipline someone from spending too much. Cash - money in the form of notes/bills and coins. Travel - to be on a journey, often for pleasure or business and with luggage. [kkknrd]
Yes, I tend to carry a lot of cash when I travel abroad as it is easy to change into the currency of the country and I only use my cards as a last resort. That way there is not shocking bills to face when I return home.. :-) Derek [derek_a]
Carry cash or depend on our ATM card, both of them have disadvantage and advantage. When carry not too much cash, it is very convenient, and you can spend it at any time any place and and shop, but if you need spend a lot of money, ATM card will be better, Too much money is very boring, heavy, unconvenient, not safe. If we lost it, it is hard to get back. but, bring a ATM card has no these problems. when i travel, i often carry both of them, a little of money and a or more ATM cards...All of the problems upwards are easily resolved. [shenqixu]
I try not to carry much cash with me when I travel... With the ability to withdraw your cash from most countries you're in, in the local currency at a small ratecool I also bank with an international bank and have a Visa and Maestro card, I have not felt the need to withdraw cash and carry it round with me when I travel.. feel safer doing it that way I guess wink [marina321]
I don't carry a lot of cash, I would never want to do that since there is a lot of uncertainty out there and we might lose it unintentionally or bump unto thieves. So ATM's are really convenient for all of us. And yes I do check my cash when I leave home.lol [selece]
No I don't check and I've gotten in trouble sometimes. I don't like to carry much at anytime so It's easy for me to run out. [savypat]
I don't carry cash at all. EVERYTHING goes on my credit card and then I pay it off at the end of the month. On the rare occasions when I need cash, I run to the ATM and get it. But if I have too much, I'll put it back in the bank to use to pay off the credit card. [reinydawn]
Well i wish i had a lot of cash in the first place, but to answer ur question no i dont really carry cash i carry plastic i found that if i use it as credit its better then paying all those atm fees or having the hassle of trying to find one near by when you are somewhere you arent too familiar with. i rarely check my cash when i leave home, i try to make a habit of checking the cash i have on hand but sometimes u just forget too many things on ur mind. [Zelda414]
I usually always check my purse to make sure I have enough for whatever may come up. [Shar19]
We travel a lot but we keep just enough cash and Coins for tolls we don't know are there or for drinks and stuff. I'd rather use my debit card because I don't like a wallet full of recipts that have replaced all my cash. [gitfiddleplayer]
we never carry cash unless we know we are going some where that may only take cash and then we carry enough for what we want but not too much lol.. but any other time we have made it a rule to not carry cash because we will have it setting around the house and lose it [moonlitmagikchild]
I usually carry more than I need. That's because on one of my trips, I had an unexpected expense which took most of my money. As a result, I was unable to do some of the things I would like to have done. [6precious102]
Cash can always get lost. It's better to carry an ATM card or debit card with you. [tiiffanyluvzuxx]
I don't hardly carry any cash with me either, my husband is always telling me I need to start carrying more money with me in case something happens I'll have some, like if I had a blowout or whatever and I needed to buy a new tire, I would have money to do it. I don't listen to him, I still don't carry much with me, I always keep my bank card with me and I use it for everything, like buying gas, and different things I may need. I just have to remember to keep enough money in it so I can use it. I don't always check my cash when I leave home, unless I think I might need to. [walijo2008]
Well I don't have any ATM or Credit Card under my belt so I definitely choose the latter. To be frank, I'm quite afraid of using credit card because of some personal issues. Well it's personal so I rather not to share it here. But I prefer to carry cash on travel. Of course, not all store outlets have a credit card reader or an ATM machine. It's a good thing to bring cash for emergency purposes. [korbchng]
I too do not use a credit card as I feel it is very unsafe. Here we too have a problem beause all stores do not have credit card reader. For that reason sometimes I have a problem because I do not regularly check my cash. [mayka123]
I always carry my ATM card with me. But I have to seldom use it for my day to day travel. For attending job, I have not to travel much so I do not need cash for that. If for any reason, I am in short there are my colleagues to help me out. If out of office, I can borrow from someone. A small town has the advantage of knowing people. But when I go out with family, I always check the cash I have with me. For going out of town, I however, carry a small cash and for the rest use my card. Happy new year..happy [arkadeb313]
I would never leave the house without first checking how much cash I have. You never known when an emergency might arise and you need cash. If I find that I am running low in my wallet then I just grab some of the extra cash that I keep at home for emergencies because as we all should know there may not always be an ATM machine and if there is one then it just may not be working when you need it the most so then where are you to be because not everyone accepts credit cards either. I think it would be one foolish move to leave home without emergency money. If I need to delve into the extra emergency money that I have at home then I do make sure I replace it because I don't want to be one of those losers that keep dipping into the "cookie jar" and then be so lazy not to replace it and then one day the "cookie jar" is empty also. What kind of stupid idiot does that? Happy 2009! [sagesunicorn]
A debit card may be safer and also at least then you know exactly how much you're spending instead of running up your credit cards if you don't really need too. happy [sagesunicorn]
Hello mayka123, I usually don't carry a lot of cash when I travel. My wife give me allowanced for 15 days and that's what's in my wallet. At the start, I have enough cash but near the end of the 15, I am already low on cash. The ATM card is also with my wife, but I have a credit card in case I am in need of money for emergency. I don't always checked my cash but I make sure I have smaller bills for my fare daily. I think it's just good to have enough cash in you to avoid unnecessary spending. Regards. ninjaninjaninja [robert19ph]
It is necessary for us to have cash with us in case of emergency but I am sometimes a bit careless and do not check the cash in my purse as we have a season ticket for travelling and therefore I do not have to spend cash for travelling everyday. But if an emergency does come up I may be in trouble some day. [mayka123]
We usually will get some cash for tolls and such, but mainly depend on debit card. [UtopianIdealist]
Well,if you have a journey, you'd better to make sure these things clear before you leave,so you will not get in troubles by these little things, and your trip will be more happier. [whitefox08]
I always check how much cash i have on me before leaving the house. Having 5 young children, it wouldn't do to have us stranded due to lack of cash. If I don't have much, then I make the first order of business a trip to the nearest atm to top up. I always try to make sure before going home again that I have at least $50 left over, if i can't manage that, then I raid the massive coin jar we have at home for emergencies and take all the $1 and $2 coins my purse can handle. As we are trying to improve our finances and savings, i am always checking my bank accounts to see what i have available at any given time. My target savings account has a minimum amount that it can have in there before i am allowed to touch the money without penalty, so I do my best to keep it above the minimum at all times. Eftpos or instore electronic atms at the registers (not sure what it is called elsewhere) are handy if i can't get to an atm, or the atm has run out of money (it does happen). You just pay for your purchases and at the same time get some cash out. It is actually a smart way to do things if you don't have a credit card. [newzealtralian]
I double check my cash when I am taking the kids along. But everyday travel to work and back has become a routine and I very often forget to check my purse before leaving home. Here we do not have any facility where we can swipe a card and pay for purchases and get cash out at the same time. [mayka123]
I do not carry a lot of cash when I travel since it is not safe to carry much money. I will calculate and predict how much moeny I need to spend for the jounrey and I will carry a little more than that amount. [larrywhite345]
Welcome to mylot and have a great time here! It is safe to carry less cash while travelling. But sometimes it has happened to me that while travelling I have liked something expensive and could not buy it because they would not accept any card and there would be no ATM around for me to withdraw cash. [mayka123]
no...aaj kal to ye zamana hi nhai hai..ki aap apne sath cash lekar jaooo.... choori ho jata hai [sknsknskn]
Everytime i go out of the house, i check not only Cash but also my House Keys, my Wallet, and my Handy. These are the 4 impt things for me. When i have to travel for hours, i take extra cash for whatever i might be in use of in the run of the day. I would find it inconvenient to search for atm machines not in the city i live in. And i would give 2nd doubts on the safety of using these machines specially the ones in big cities and along the road. I find it wiser to use the ones inside banks or inside protected rooms. [tigerlily1972]
