Nothing better for me than a nice long road trip in a comfortable vehicle. I'm not interested in riding in a cramped back seat in a pickup truck, but I love riding Greyhound busses all over Canada and the USA. A train would be nice, but a Greyhound is a lot cheaper. Does anyone else enjoy nice long road trips? Why? For me, it's the fact that I'm sitting down, and am able to see the world around me, as it goes by.

I enjoy long road trips. I don't mind driving at all, and I've also taken train trips, but I've not taken a Greyhound. I have been wondering how expensive Greyhound trips are these days. I have also wondered if Greyhound offers any kind of Entertainment on board, such as paying a fee for internet access, or providing television screens for each passenger. I have no idea what is available on a Greyhound bus, but it sounds like it could be a comfortable ride. [jamesheard]
I Just Am Thinking Of Buying A New Vehicle .. If We Were Closer To One Another By Distance .. I Could Have taken You For A long Drive In My Vehicle .. LoL .. I Enjoy Going out Once In A While On Road With The Kids Along .. It Is Indeed Heavenly To Go on Long Drives .. I Just Love Driving on Long Straight Roads .. Thank You .. [prashanthalva]
I love long road trips in a comfortable car with snacks and cold drinks. With the world going by being able to see the beauty of this wonderful country. I love it! [lelin1123]
I used to, but for some reason, not anymore. [General_Spacey]
Dont know about greyhound buses, but I love long drives in my car or on my bike. These days its raining here in India, cuz the monsoon is here (Finally!) so the weather is just perfect for long drives :) [aschip]
I have never been much of a traveller. I hate driving in vehicles, prefer a plane but even with that I get dizzy. I've never been much of a traveller but it seems to have gotten worse in my old age... or because of the fibro. I took a one hour drive to a soccer tournament, spent all day there and then drove home. I had to lie down and take Gravol when I got home. I just can't handle driving (unless I'm behind the wheel). I so wish I could snap my fingers and just be where I want to be. [patgalca]
As long as hubby is driving I really enjoy long trips. The reason why it has to be hubby is that I tend to get carsick depending on how the driver... well drives LOL Hubby is quite constant in his speed and the car doesn't go trough very fast, very slow, then very fast again, that's what starts to get me sick. I can't be in a car that hubby's cousin is driving for more than 10 minutes. The way he drives - even though safe - just gets me sick in no time. For that reason, I don't really enjoy long trips on a bus, although it will depend on the driver. Funny thing I don't usually get sick on a train. Or I didn't use to. I haven't been on a long train trip in many years, so that might have changed. [arkaf61]
depends on how long "long" is. there is only a certain period of time wherein you are in anticipation of the event for the trip but once the trip goes on and on, to the point that you actually wonder where you're headed to, i guess that kills the excitement of the trip. [abbypringles]
I love to look out of the window on a long trip. I can see all the lovely scenery on the way to my destination. My favorite way to travel is by train even if it costs double to bus fare it is worth it. In the night a train has comfortable bunks on compartments to sleep on. Spending a night on a bus, sitting up with limited leg room, is uncomfortable. I have been on trains in the USA. I hope to visit Canada next year. I will hopefully fly into Vancouver and travel by train and bus in the West of Canada. [maximax8]
yes, I like a long road trip with my friends,it is wonderful for us.and some of my firends make a plans that we will have a long trip every year. [peace001]
Hi I travelled only in india. But i wish to travel in abroad. If there is chance for me [phanendrav]
I don't like riding in a car, I've never been on a Greyhound bus nor a train. I had too many car rides from Ohio to California and that really made me not like car rides LOL [ZephyrSun]
We moved around a lot when I was a kid and although I hated moving, I loved the road trips with my Mom. I always got to be co-pilot. I got to read the maps, watch for signs, make the sandwiches and have long talks with my Mom. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS** [twoey68]
I can't say that I particularly enjoy riding the bus. I've done it, took the express ride to Houston a number of times and once down to San Antonio. Those were okay, but I wouldn't care to be on the bus more than 4-5 hours. [ElicBxn]
Absolutely! I love bus trips. We don't go all over the USA in them because the tours are very expensive with the group we go with. You are right. It is wonderful to sit back and watch it all go by. [Yestheypayme2dothis]
I love long road trips, usually it starts out being really slow and quite boring. But once it gets to roughly in the middle of the road trip it gets exciting, well particularly if you are traveling with others it's very eventful. Many laughs and hilarious stops and other odd things that happen. =) [LairOfMetal]
I don't like long road trips, because i get sick in a car or a train. So when we go abroad, the trip is a nightmare for me, but when we arrive, heaven starts for me. :) [Tibor1450]
I love to drive the long trips. Those are the best! Stop when and where you want to for how ever long you want to. Take what you want and have it all right there by you. I've been on many mostly with my little kids years ago, but still.. I vote for driving on long trips! Love it! [coffeebreak]
Yes, I enjoy nice long trips ,but only if I'm not the one driving. Ha Ha! [Mirita]
If I am driving, no. I don't enjoy. I tend to get car sick. Riding on bus, I do enjoy when I have boys around me. So I can chit chat all along the way. I enjoy the most on plane. It's more comfortabe than any other means of transportation. If I happen to do international flight, there's TV or games to play inside the plane. CooL~ [richardling]
I've been on so many road trips as a kid that I think I have developed more of an appreciation for site seeing than actually enjoying it. My road trips now consist of getting there by the quickest, cheapest and safest route. Now, if someone else were driving, I'd probably get to see more and enjoy more. [puddytat101]
During out first visit to Boracay with my cousins, theres actually another option, to get a plane straight to Caticlan and few minutes youll be a in Boracay and enjoy the sun! But then we opted on going to Iloilo, take a 5 hour bus ride to Caticlan because reaching Boracay. We just wanted adventure, few bus stops. 3days after spending time in the beach and party in Cocomangas, we went to straight to our grandmotherse place..which took us 3 hours bus ride again, spend a day with her before hitting the bus and head straight to cebu. It was fun. And yes, i enjoy long trips, that way u get to see different places rather then just be on the shorter trips. [daryljane]
I always like long road trips provided my health is in good spirits. Whenever I plan for any trekking or a long trip, I invariably have some ailment or other. I prefer to be in a healthy condition and then njoy the long trip [tskmjk55]
Oh no, I hate long trips, be it on road or elsewhere. I actually love being to new places, but it is the journeying part that bothers me. Apart from the boredom that sets in with having nothing to do, I also dislike the confinement to a vehicle for longer durations which is somewhat suffocating to me. One exception, however, is when it's something of the kind of a picnic, including lots of friends and peers. Time just flies with the right set of people keeping your company.happy [I_LUV_U]
i enjoyed long road trips for one reason it is so relaxing and yes you can feed your eyes with the wonder of nature and along the way you will be able to sleep after a very long trip really like sleeping a lot on long trips gives me a good and relaxing feeling all the time [HelScream]
It depends on if its for work or vacation, for work,no i don't like them, vacation roadtrips are fun. [den1545]
Yes I really love long road trips especially on new roads unknown to me. The joy of escaping from the hustle and bustle of the city gives me a lot of satisfaction.... And if there are a few good friends to accompany me then I wan't nothing more. [svk_hereiam]
I like long road trip by vehicle (bus or car), especialy with good and nature scene along the road mountain and forest so green for me. It is good teraphy for our soul could get inspirative and insight for life. [dictuz]
Long trips are not for me...not at all. I have to drive every single day and I start dreaming about walking in general instead of driving.... Buses are not my friends...it takes forever to get to your destination.... [polachicago]
It does sound tempting, but one does need to have all the time. Being someone who ties himself to a full-time job, this does not allow me the freedom to go on long road trips. But it is a good experience to venture through. I have friends who try the silk road of Asia. Amazing journey. [starlight70]
I dont mind going by bus or as a passenger in a comfy setting. If you are in a cramped squashed space its not as much fun. Last summer my familt drove (in 2 vechiles 10 of us) from Saskatchewan area to the shuswaps in BC for a houseboating trip. We had a blast but we were very squished and by the time we got done our drives we were ready to not be so close! [saundyl]
Now that is a problem for me. I have this fear of being in a vehicle when somebody else is driving. I have fear for accident. Eventhough I am not driving the car or bus, I always look ahead of the road, paying attention to the road instead. What a pity. I prefer to drive myself and I never have a chance to enjoy the trip, looking left and right for the beautiful surroundings. [chi2nasrin]
Sometimes if I have a companion, I got bored traveling alone with no one to chat too. If my hubby is here we always want to travel and go to places to relax. I do also look around and sight seeing all the beauty of nature. I do bring also my I pod If I feel bored I just enjoy listening to my favorite music. [lynboobsy11]
I enjoy family road trips. I am the type to look out the window as the car passes the world by, so I get caught up in daydreaming a lot during rides. But my family cracks jokes and all so it is a fun ride nonetheless. We share snacks and sometimes I listen to music or nap if it is a longer ride. [jeg2315]
I love going on roadtrips with my father. At the beginning of the year we travelled from one end of our country (New Zealand) to the other. Theres just nothing like driving through a beautiful country, with the sun shining through the window, chatting and listening to positive feel good summer music. One of the best things about road trips is that are you free to stop when you see something interesting to do or to take Photographs and you often find interesting things that aren't in the guidebooks. Another positive is that you get to see so much of the countries natural beauty from mountains and lakes to forests ect.. It's also nice to stop in small towns and try out their cafes and meet the locals. I plan on travelling on a GLOBUS tour in Europe :-) Carefully selected as the seats are more spacious and comfortable than on tours such as topdeck and Contiki. [tabatha1989]
Road trips are lovely as long as, like you said, you are journeying in a vehicle which is comfortable. I like travelling by road because I find it quite peaceful - looking out the window, whilst listening to some music, or maybe reading a good book on a long road trip is always a pleasure. [UK_Shree]
I have not ridden a bus in ages, it might be nice to do with hubby. Then we could talk with each other and sleep if we needed to and never have to worry about who was going to drive next. I think the only drawback would be that we could not stop as often as we like. [GardenGerty]
yes i do love long road trips becoz i love to drive long trips. Especially high range trips.Itz really nice to discover new places and see the sights. I dont't drive heavy vehecles. I love driving cars and bikes. Bikes give me more pleasure. Long hill range trips provide great thirll and enjoyment. THe climate would be cold and itz pleasant o drive up hill and take short breaks between. [heartbeats1010]
I agree with you, a nice long road trip in a comfortable vehicle is a wonderful thing. [ivanwoo]
I don't mind short road trips but longer road trips have to be taken in nice comfortable cars and we have to have it really planned out and we have to be plenty stocked with snacks, drinks and things to do in the car. Otherwise, I get bored and irritated really fast. And, to really make the trip useful I like getting out every few hours to walk around and look at things or just to take a break and get out of the car. Then I really don't mind the trip. [highflyingxangel]
As long as I don't have to drive! And we have plenty of money! We drove to Florida in 2005 & that was about 19 hours one way. We took our time getting there, but then on the way back, John drove straight through. Now this year for Christmas John wants to take another long road trip. Not sure yet if we're going to his brother's house in Texas or his mom's in Arizona. Better start watering that money Tree in the backyard! [windymyre]
I think my money tree died!! I just looked up Quinlan, TX & it doesn't appear to be too far from where my BIL lives in Aubrey, TX! [windymyre]
i do enjoy long trips but the problem is money. I have a car and pay-day is the day for me - time for a full tank of gasoline and off I go. [AngleSpeed]
Im gonna love it with enough space, and comfortable car. Coz i can stop anywhere if i wanted to take photos of the nice places. Or have a cup of coffee on the way. I hate crowded transport and rough roads, and also when i get stuck on traffic. [rainmark]
I have a really bad case of travel bug, so any reason to travel and any means is cool with me. Lately I've been in the mood for long rides in car/train. I took the bus when I moved to where I am now. I enjoyed to quite a bit. I enjoy being able to see the scenery. It's really cool how quickly it can change. [ryouga]
Yes, I really love long road trips! I prefer to be driving in a car though, not on a bus! You have no control over your journey on a bus. I like to stop and look at things that I find interesting along the way! I really love exploring new areas and you cannot do that when you fly to your destination! Unfortunately for me, my wife does not like long trips in the car! :-( Last Christmas, I drove with my 2 kids 1800 kilometres from Brisbane to Melbourne to see my family there. My wife came by plane a week later and drove with us for the return journey. It was a 5000 kilometre round trip! We took the scenic route along the coast for the return trip, but my wife was bored by it all. I loved it though!!! :-) I have also driven across the USA and a little of Canada on a fantastic road trip with friends 11 years ago. We had one rental car from San Francisco to Denver over two weeks, then we did some greyhounds and other cars for the rest of the trip to New York via Ontario, Canada. I did a 24 hour train trip once. That was enjoyable but not as good as driving! [RawBill1]
I love long road trips! Specially, if I'm the one driving. I know some people doesn't like it but the he fact that I have control over my time, I can do whatever I want during the travel. [blogdemanila]
Yes, long drive is my best thing I want to do. Every weekend I had a long drive with my husband. I love to be when the road is clear and the weather is cool. I enjoy rains too when I am on long drive. I love when I see trees moving although it is not but..I love the moving vehicles when it passes by and sometimes we are far away from it. I enjoy the road trip so much that I can even sacrifice food for it. [airakumar]
sad I have not taken a long road trip in quite some time. I usually do not like to take them because I get car sick alot of times. I never have the time to take trips anymore either. sad [stephcjh]
yes i do enjoy taking long road trips. i used to drive up north to my neighbouring country for road trips. i prefer to drive during road trips as i like to feel in control. also, i enjoy the freedom brought to me by driving. driving also allows me to stop whenever and wherever i want. taking detours is part of the fun of long road trips. we've discovered quite a few rural gems by taking such detours. [applefreak]
We are a traveling family so road trips to us are second nature. We've driven 27 hours to get somewhere and the long trips are the best. The kids turn on a DVD or sleep or iPod it for a while. We stop to see historial sites and we make sure they know where they are when they are up and alert. The two hour trips are the worst, they want to know what is taking so long, 27 hours they are fine, 2 hours and they are going car crazy, whats up with that? [gitfiddleplayer]
hi danishcanadian I took my last bus trip in 1998, through the south of England and liked it a lot. Bus trips are wonderful and I hope that one day I have saved up enough for another one. Maybe to the Netherlands or to Ireland would be a great idea. [book1962]
I love long trips. I have ever since I was little. I wasn't that kid that kept asking "Are We Therr Yet?"I prefer trains to buses. You have more room. The windows are larger , and besides you can get up and walk to the dining car.My next fav is by car.As long as the car has AC in the summer or heat in the winter , I am happy. [sarahruthbeth22]
sure do:) i always get the window seat, especially if it's somewhere i hadn't been to before. the NYC to VA greyhound driver knew me after awhile LOL [scarlet_woman]
I haven't decided yet whether I like long rides or not! There are times that I love to sit and just watch the scenery go by and I know that I want to see and explore the 50 states and all the tourist attractions in them. But at other times I get bored very quickly with it all. I know that I am a better passenger than driver, but if I do my exploring, it will be by myself, unless someone comes along real soon! I've never done any travel by bus, train or plane, so I don't know how I would enjoy any of those. Only car!! [idowrite72]
