The road accident rate is truly alarming. According to the latest statistics, over 80,000 people killed on road accidents in India and there are large numbers of people suffering by accidents.shocked
Like every country, India is also having traffic rules. But most of the travelers are showing very interest to violate the rules. Crossing the red-light is a common scene in the Capital city. People are in a hurry and always go fast. There are strict rules and regulations there and taking proper steps to punishing the violators then also violation is goes on.
I mentioned above the traffic violations in our country (India). I would like to know the situation in other countries. I heard that in other countries people are strictly obeying the rules (not only the traffic rule but other rules also).
I know mylotters are from different places of the world. So I would like to invite all mylotters to share their experience and knowledge on the particular subject.
Please share: 1. Do you respect traffic rules?
2. Do you ever violate the rule?
3. Do you ever happen to watch the violation of rule?
4. Do you ever meet an accident becuase of the traffic violation?
If I skip any point you may please add it. Thanks and have a nice time to all mylotters.happy

responses and comments:
In my city the traffic rules are very strict. we are bound to obey them it is the case from when we were child or even before that. so we have grwon up obeying the rules. there are strict fines for whom do not obey it. [subha12]
Hi Subha, In Delhi also there is strict rules but mostly people are violating eventhough they are getting bills at home for payment as a fine. Even those with police scanners aren't safe! Ha! thanks dear. [Sreekala]
Hi Sreekala In Pakistan, situation is not good either, Sure on Motorway people abide traffic rules as highway police is strict and they gave y ticket right away for any violation, but on GT road, where bribe rate is high, traffic rules are voilated and its said that when u r driving u not only have to take care of urself but also have to be vigilant enough to avoid mistakes of others. now answer to ur question 1)i do respect traffic rules 2) well some times in night time when roads are deserted, i just cross red lightblush 3) Well i watch it many times. even police is watching it 4) No Take care [cupid74]
Ok Thanks for clearing Itcool [cupid74]
as much as possible i should obey traffic rules...its way of citizenship...and by obey rules it will lessen road accidents.... [jhenn22]
Hi jhenn22, Good dear, yes if we obey rules it will lessen accidents. Have a safe drive. [Sreekala]
Hi sree....Yes you are right trafic rules in our country, and particularly in the state where I live need to be modified and enforced strictly ,if it has to become effective....Sadly here the authorities are not bothered to keep the roads in good condition, and to fill the porth holes in the road and make them vehicle friendly. And when the monsoon starts the streets gets flooded making vehicular traffic a mess.. Very often the traffic policemen are more concerned about harassing innocent people for minor offenses, and do not bother to ensure the smooth flow of traffic....Driving a vehicle in Kerla today is really an ordeal,I must admit..........I try to follow the traffic rules (as far as possible wink),but sadly I must admit there is generally no discipline here.sad [Roseo8]
thanks dear for your good wishes. So now I can freely admit that I do not follow all traffic rules while driving my car.....wink...Its out of necessity only that I sometimes park my car in front of no parking signs, and sometimes I overtake from the left side ,and soemtimes I turn a blind eye to the traffic lights when the policeman has gone for lunch...he..he..the rest of the time,I obediently stick to traffic rules.....lol [Roseo8]
You are right sreekala, the traffic rules today are more observed in breach rather than in compliance. The life is ever faster than before and everyone need to reach their destination in the shortest time. Those violating the traffic not only put their life in danger but they have no respwect for others' lives too. They don't have any concern for others. Some drive their vehicle ,especially youth,as if the Newton's first law of motion never apply to them.Whatever be the external force they continue with their overspeed without knowing that speed thrills but kills. As for me I can say with pride that I have never violated any traffic rules except in one occassion when I had to get a patient broken down of heart attack to hospital.I had to violate even the one-way rules but the police which followed me spared me at once when they came to know about the emergency. [cosmopolitan]
Hi Cosmpolitan, What you said is really true. I entirely agree with you. Everybody is in hurry and no time to think about others. Strict laws are there but people are disobedient. I think each person should realise it and ready to change by their own rather than forcing laws or punishments to them. Thank you for giving such a nice comments. Have a safe journey.happy [Sreekala]
Hi sreekala, I like to answer your quiz..lol. Of course I respect the rules, they're made for our safety. Once I get stop by the police for changing the line. Once I didn't know and take the wrong line (also get caught), and once because of the blur traffic lamps I can't see the red light and move on (but no police around so I get away). The point is I've never break the traffic rules on purpose. I think for some people rules are meant to be broken, that also happen in my country. Not everyone obeyed the rules, and I feel shame about it. Good luck and have a nice day. [HiLia2008]
Hi HiLia, How are you? So I am the quiz master (lol) very good. I am glad to know that you are respecting the rules. If each person respect the law .... what a great idea. but we can only hope for that. A lot of people don't obey off street rules, like the used car lemon laws. Thanks dear, Take care, Have a safe journey. [Sreekala]
Well, in my country(China),the problem of road accidents are also serious. It's a trouble that the travelers can not realized it's so dangerous to violate the rules. They can waste a lot of time on many things but not traffic and another reason I think is the punishment of violating not very serious. I never violate the rules though I always watch the violation of rules and the accidents. [susan19820716]
Hi Susan, So violation is everywhere in the world. I think people should realise that rules should not be violated especially traffic rules, it may damaged to our life or others life and life is precious for everybody. Even those sporting fancy professional radar detectors should take heed! Thanks for your response and happy to know that you are not violating rules. Have a safe journey. [Sreekala]
I am glad we never have met any accidents because of traffic violation. I know how to drive but my hubby is the one who always drive and he is a very law abiding citizen. Because of this...we never in any single instance have been caught of traffic violation or have figured in a traffic accident due to traffic violation. My hubby is also not a speeder. I believe speeders are the culprit to most road accidents. They don't only kill themselves but they also kill others. Another culprit to road accidents are the drunkards...they drink and got drunk and then they drive and kill themselves and worse the other innocent ones. Another culprit are the sleepers. They sleep while driving and in the process are killing people on the road. My goodness, why don't they finish their sleep on bed? The traffic violators as well have done a lot of traffic mess and killings on the road. Just a year ago a truck driver killed the spouse of Atty. Rene Saguisag when he went on a red light hitting the van of the couple which led to the tragic death and injury of the other people inside the van. How sad, very sad!!! [salonga]
Hi Salonga, Sleeping while driving, My GOD first time I heard about the same. You are right why can't they finish their sleeping and then start the journey. I am glad to know that you and your husband really doing a good job. I appreciate both of you. Thanks for sharing and Have a safe journey to both of you.happy [Sreekala]
yes of course i do. its better to be safe than sorry. [kayeshayne21]
Hi Kayeshayne, yeah, you are right. thanks and have a safe journey.happy [Sreekala]
I do not drive but when walking on the road I sure try to respect the traffic rules and cross only when I have to. But just a couple of days back I almost got hit by a car who was trying to jump the signal and speed off. Luckily another guy saw the car and pulled me back in time. Thank God he did not scream and wait for me to go back because by the time I would have realized what he was saying I would be run over. [mayka123]
Hi Mayka, I think those people who are not driving suffering a lot due to rash drive. I am also like you and I have to cross the road, where there is no sub-way or over-bridge instead there is a Zebra crossing. But people are not showing any respect to pedestrians and they don't have time to stop the vehicle. Once in a while there is a traffic police is available to help the people to cross the road but mostly we have to wait for long time to get a chance. I over heard some people in the skate store talk about injuries and deaths to skaters due to people running red lights. It was awful. Thanks and take care while crossing the road.happy [Sreekala]
a very good question indeed which is apt for the present situation... i do respect traffic rules and obey them. of course violating rules would cause a lot of harm not only to the person who is driving but also for innocent passerby... i am from india and this question brought by you will create an awareness for sure... [vandhu]
Hi Vandhu, Thanks for your comments dear. But I know my discussion won't help any improvement. Let us pray for the best. Have safe journey. [Sreekala]
I do obey traffic rules, not only because I don't want to violate but foremost it's because I want to stay safe, alive and I will not be wasting my money for violation tickets or corrupt traffic enforcers. Although I admit having been forced to receive violation tickets a couple of times for alleged violations that after verifying with the Land Transportation Office, are not even traffic violations. Whew! [brenbelmonte]
Hi brenbelmonte, I appreciate your thinking. I wish everybody thinks like you, but I can only wish or hope for the same. Thanks for your valuable comment. Have a safe journey.happy [Sreekala]
as much as possible i should abide traffic rules. to lessen road accident [Grace030174]
Hi Grace, It is our duty to ensure the safety of others. For that we have to obey the traffic rules. Thanks for your comments Have a safe journey. [Sreekala]
Yes it is very much observed around here in the US. Whenever you see a stop sign, you really need to make a complete stop not just slow down. There are road signs everywhere and they are actually there for the driver's safety. They are not just rules. So basically you are following these rules for everybody's sake. It provides caution and basic safety measures. Violating these rules only mean you do not care about other people and this is not a good reason for you to drive. All kinds of people, including kids and the elderly (riding in electric mobility scooters) may not be fast street crossers, so you have to respect that. [11strikes]
Hi 11strikes, From your comments I understand that you are very much respecting the law. It is really a pleasure to know about the same. Thanks for your comments Have a safe journey. [Sreekala]
We should respect traffic rules. It causes accidents... [dong1970]
Hi dong, Thanks for your comments. Have a safe journey. [Sreekala]
Hi Everyone, I am from South Indian Manchester Coimbatore & i see atleast 4 or 5 times a day, a ambulance flying running the siren sound. so this mean to us that, atleast 4 or 5 dangerous accidents happens in my circle. So how about the rest of the places? People seems nowadays really much busy than the olden days & they are nott caring the signals nowadays. To my sad thing i watched one guy dying in front of my eyes, when he stopped his two wheeler, seeing the "orange light turns red". To his bad luck, the lorry which came back to him showed no mercy and killed him making blood stains on the road. Nowadays people respecting the traffic rules and riding properly is now enough nowadays (This rule matches before 8 or 10 years). but they should be also aware of the vehicles coming back to them. it would be nice if they use the mirror, while driving. that helps anyone greatly! moreover, Speed is the most important thing. according to me 50 is enough while driving in cities. & for those guys who does "bike race" in traffic roads, i just say you one thing. if you are ready to die, then wear a helmet to check whether you have luck in saving your life. & mainly dont kill anyone due to their rash drive. & finally if you have the guts, you can go for bike race in Tracks. why to make people fear on public roads? Finally, i answer about myself to this question. I am a bike lover. but not a mad in driving. often i used to take my bike for having a long ride of above 500kms. i used to drive speed only on highways. i always maintain the speed of 50 to 60, while driving in cities! [raghul77ster]
Hi Raghu, I agree with you, people are driving so fast and not bothered about others. The problem may be with some persons/individuals. Some people are very aggressive and don't want to wait for their turn and they just hitting the vehicle and moving forward. The people who concern about themselves should value others life. I am happy to know that you are keeping vigil on driving and have some concern about others. Thanks for your valuable time. Have a safe journey.happy [Sreekala]
From Pakistan Say! Yea I Follow Traffic Rules Carefully But Only in a Day time on Night we don't care because here law about it. have a nice day. [Tushavi]
Hi Tushavi, Thanks for your reply. Have a safe journey. [Sreekala]
yeah ofc they are important to follow. they are made to be followed. tehey are formed from our mistakes n thry are to prevent the mistakes again [thecrazyjogger]
I try my bet to respect traffic rules, while driving. I do not believe in jumping red lights or driving in the wrong lane. I've seen many people driving rashly and without any regard to rules and regulations. Those who voilates the rules cause lots of trouble and inconveninece to other vehicles. I have neither met with a major accident, (God forbids me) nor I have caused any major accident, while driving. I try to drive safely and very carefully and with my eyes and ears open and gradually I have become used to driving in heavy traffic. [dpk262006]
Hi DPK, Some people are thinking that only they have the privilege to use the road and can drive according to their wish. Some are doing mistakes by themselves but scolding others. I do not drive but travelling by bus I have seen many these kinds of incidents. It is nice to know that you are respecting traffic rule and careful while driving. There is an advertisement by Traffic Police, you won't do anything wrong but others can do, means you have to careful about others mistake. Thanks Deepak, take care and have a safe journey.happy [Sreekala]
I am in charge of regulating the traffic inside my school parking lot.I volunteered to do it as a Parent teacher association member.I am doing this job dutifully for 30 minutes from 7.30 to 8 Am daily for the past six years.I am doing it because I got so vexed up at the chaos on our roads.Nobody seems to have a grain of respect to the traffic rules and the Me first attitude is written in a very ugly way on everyone's face.I not only obey the traffic rules but also get out of my car to help and control the traffic when there is a snarl. [balasri]
Ok, thank you Balaji, have a nice day.happy [Sreekala]
Hi frnds, I will follow and respect the traffic rules when ever i will go to the outside or city in a vehicle.I always follow the traffic rules when i go city. Following the traffice rules it good safe for us and we will safe from the accidents. Now and forever we have to follow the traffic rules and respect the traffic rules. [23uday]
Hi Uday, I agree with you. But who is bothered about the same. But I appreciate you and happy to know that you are respecting the rules and concerned about other people. Thank you very much and have a safe journey to you.happy [Sreekala]
Yes, this is a must to avoid accident. [eds282006]
Hi eds, Thanks and have a safe journey to you.happy [Sreekala]
I live in chennai...and i find the traffic situation here is same of that of the rest of india...example of it is crossing arailway crossings...peple would generally sneak though the gate as the trains genarally are quite late when the gate comes down...i generally wait at the gate and wait for the gate to open...i wait for 15-30 min and feel like a fool when all the people are crossing before me...but one feeling comes in my mind that i am doing the right thing which keep me going... [maverickwarrior]
Hi maverickwarrior, You are not at all a fool but a wise person. You may lost some of your precious time but remember your life is precious than that. People should really alert while crossing the railway line because everybody know that train driver is helpless if he could see the people are crossing. In road driver can do something even if the vehicle is coming in high speed. So let the people go before you if they are in a hurry. They don't understand the fact; they are playing with their life. Thanks for sharing and have a safe journey to you.happy [Sreekala]
I don't own a car but if I did, I will for sure. Because I am afraid to be apprehended by authorities. But during emergency cases, I might break the rules especially if it means life and death. [izathewzia]
Hi Izathewzia, I understand your intention, I think it is necessary in sometime. Thanks and have a safe journey.happy [Sreekala]
Hi Sreekala. I am not someone that drives at the moment because I am living in a foreign country, But when I am driving back home, I do respect the traffic rules, yes. I may occasionally speed, but that's about it! I have lived in India myself and am now based out of Egypt and there is little rhyme or reason on the roads at all to be honest. I see people viloating traffic rules on a daily basis, from running red lights to not indicating; but funnily enough I rarely witness an accident! I guess what it all comes down to, is that traffic rules are only as valid as the efforts to enforce them and if people are not being policed on them effectively then they will become relaxed about them over time. [James72]
Hi James, So you were in India then I think you know the situations here. Most of the places, roads are not good and people are interesting in violating the rule rather than respecting. Strict rules are there and you have to pay a fine if you violate the rule (if you caught)but I don't think it makes any difference. Thanks for the response and have a safe journey. [Sreekala]
Hi Sree yes i respect traffic rules, i agree all accidents arise due to non observation of the rules. I know many persons who got their driving liecence through brokers with out going in to the formality of the issuing authority. I can tell you of one incident, i was on my left as usual, suddenly i saw another over taking me from wrong side, when i talked to him-he said i am on the side, not in middle of road Thank you so much for starting this nice discussion here. happy keep sharing, have a great day, cheersrasp. Happy posting. ARUN [arun2009]
Hi arun, Yes in road all are in a hurry and reach fast so no concern about other people. Traffic violation is a common thing in the road and the people who did mistake never admit the same at any cost. Take care while riding. [Sreekala]
