Ever Fly Somewhere Just For The Day

I have often wondered about this. I guess some people must fly places just for the day and then fly back later that night to go home. I'm sure a lot of people on business trips do that. I would never want to though. Seems like a waste of a trip and money. Not to mention I don't like to fly much. Have you ever flown somewhere just for the day?

Many, many times but only for business. Sometimes I was glad I did not have to spend the night away from home, other times I found it to be exhausting. [whiteheather39]
I guess it would be exhausting. [Shar19]

No, but that does sound like fun, just getting on a plane and letting somebody else take the wheel for a change. I've driven somewhere in a day, road trips are alright but I think I'd like to try the flying thing. First I have to find someplace that I can fly back from. [gitfiddleplayer]
I guess if you had your own plane you could fly anywhere you wanted anytime. I had some friends in the past that had the money to purchase their own Beechcraft personal aircraft. They flew whenever and wherever they wanted to! [Shar19]

no mostly for a week tho this time I am hoping to go for 2 weeks! [Lakota12]
Got freinds all over the states but I wish this son woud move here I hate going to TEnn. BUt if they pay the ticket I am going! [Lakota12]

Actually I am thinking of doing just this! I have a dear friend that is not likely to gt better and when she returns to her son's house in Miami, I plan to go for the day just to see her, maybe buy Baseball gear for cheap, too. I will leave JA on the first flight soi I will be in Miami by 9 am at latest and then spend the day wit her before returning to JA.I will gt a flight back by 6 pm. It is just the money that is stopping me as I am so broke now after the cruise. But I am praying that money will come from somewhere for me to go. [cynthiann]
Woops! I should have known better. I do remember reading in your profile a while ago that you lived in Jamaica (I'm jealous by the way). [Shar19]

Just after we married, my husband got a wild notion to take me to the San Diego Zoo. We left for the airport right then, bought tickets and had a wonderful day at the zoo! We were home that night and it was a great day. That was back in 1987 when you could buy a ticket and get on a plane with no security checks and no luggage. I don't like to fly anymore, it's too much hassle and the Airbus models are crashing too much. [dragon54u]
That was very nice of him. Yes, it's ashame that it is such a hassle to fly anymore. [Shar19]

Hi ya Shar19 I wouldn't fly anywhere just for one day as I live so far from the nearest airport that it simply wouldn't be worth it!! [Humbug25]
I don't blame you. [Shar19]

I haven´t done it and wouldn´t do it if I can help it. I am not afraid of planes at all, but my feet and legs get swollen in planes. So I wouldnb´t take a plane just to come and go for the day. [marguicha]
I can understand that. It isn't very easy to keep getting up on a plane to stretch either. [Shar19]

I have never flown anywhere period & if i keep what little sense i have left i don't intend to ever fly, lol. They were going to airlift me once to nashville & i told them i wasn't riding in a helicopter. I guess my sons told then it would not be a good idea, lol because they took me by ambulance. [ANTIQUELADY]
I don't blame you. I hate flying but I will if I want to go somewhere really nice. [Shar19]

I've done it once. I flew to Dallas so I could visit with my uncle and aunt who lived in South Carolina at the time. I spent the day at my sister's. I flew in early in the day to wait for a repair guy to come for something in her house while she went to work. Our uncle and aunt came in mid-afternoon, my brother came in from a nearby town and we all spent the afternoon and evening together and then - I flew home. My sister lived in Arlington, Texas, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arlington,_Texas my brother lived in Lewisville Texas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewisville,_Texas and I lived in Austin. It was a good day. [ElicBxn]
it was a very good day I took the first flight out and the last flight back, and in Austin I met a counter gal who did that daily, she lived in Dallas, worked the counter in Austin and did the commute daily - don't think I'd care to do that - first, the parking is expensive in Dallas, but maybe she had a deal - like monthly parking or took the bus to the airport. Since I was flying into DFW and not Love Field, I wasn't flying Southwest Airline - don't remember what it was - had to have been in the late 1980's, my niece was still pretty young and she was born in 1986 [ElicBxn]

I don't know that I would enjoy doing it for business, but I wish I had the money to hop on a plane and fly somewhere just for dinner. Then fly back home. I always thought ti would be fun to fly to New York for dinner and a show and then back home at the end of the evening. [JennyMarie]
That is something I always admired watching on some T.V. shows how they just hop on a plane and have dinner in another country. [Shar19]

Yes. I did it once for a meeting conference in our company but I never think of a waste of money because it all company expense but it so tiring when you go back in the afternoon or night. [irene3184]
I would guess it would be tiring. How long was the flight for? [Shar19]

I never done it yet. I think it's tiring that you have to fly and go back from your home place just for a day. [irefed]
I agree. I don't think I would enjoy it. [Shar19]

No, I have never flown somewhere just for the day. I do not fly unless I am going to stay at the place I am going to for at least a week. But some people have lots money to do just that and some people are in a business that has them fly once in awhile just for one day. [happy6162]
That's how I feel. If I'm going to fly then it better be to a nice place that I'll be staying at for a week. [Shar19]

Hi Shar. I'm pretty sure that I didn't, but my husband has. He flew to see his mom (it's a 9 hour drive). But as it was in the middle of the week, he had to come home so he could work the next day. Happy mylotting! [sacmom]
I bet that was a long day for him. Still beats driving 9 hours though. [Shar19]

I sure wish I could do that sometimes. That would be an awfully expensive trip for just one day though. One day just does not seem to be enough time to relax and enjoy things. [stephcjh]
You're right it would be a lot of rushing around. [Shar19]

I haven't ever flown anywhere just for the day. That is because I like to go off traveling for two weeks at the very least. I have seen flights advertised for day trips to see Father Christmas in Lapland. It was a very pricey trip like £300 a person. I think therefore it would be a waste of money. Yes, business people might fly somewhere for a meeting and then fly back that same day. Their company has to pay for that sort of trip. I have been on many flights because I love traveling and especially like long haul destinations. [maximax8]
I guess if the business is paying for it then the expense is no big deal since they don't mind paying. Glad you like to travel great distances. [Shar19]

Interesting question, actually I have never flown on a plane. I really love to do it one day. My uncle usually travels for one day for business purposes. He returns home late at night or in the evening after finishing his meetings. [biman_s]
I'm sure you will fly one day. Even though I don't like to fly, you should at least try it once. [Shar19]

I have never flown somewhere for only one day. It would be fun to be able to do so though. I just don't have the money to do just that! It is expensive to fly! If I had the money and I was wealthy, then I would LOVE to fly somewhere for one day, and then fly back! I do love to collect instruments or drums. It'd be cool to fly to a foreign country and find some cheap percussion instruments or drums and bring them back as gifts. I am not sure where I would go, but somewhere close enough where I wouldn't spend all my time flying. I love to fly, but haven't done it in years!!! [jterrock]
I think only the wealthy can afford to. [Shar19]

Several times to keep various bosses happy. Milan (suburbs) for the day. Dublin (suburbs) for the day. Stockholm (centre - quite enjoyed that one) for the day. And back in the 1990s I had a girlfriend in Berlin. I remember flying to see her (surprise visit) in the morning on Christmas Day, and flew back mid-afternoon (special Christmas price - very cheap). [astonysh]
At least you had some enjoyable trips even though you were exhausted. Imagine if you didn't have a good time! All of those business and politicians on the official cabinet posts never get to fly anywhere for fun; always on the go! [Shar19]

No, I never tried it. I can't imagine doing it anyway. You're right, it's a waste of time and money. Also include waste of energy. You'll not enjoy going to a place if you'll just be there for some hours. [sharlionse]
so true. Thanks for responding. [Shar19]

Can't really say so. It must feel different. I guess in the end it gets more expensive and tirening than all of the other normal and possible ways to get life done. So probably not worth it. [Eisenherz]
Wouldn't be worth it to me either. [Shar19]

No, I haven't, I don't like to fly much either, in fact, I've never flew on a plane. My husband keeps telling me he's getting me on a airplane one of these days and we're going somewhere, I told him Good Luck..haha. It would be easier to just fly somewhere for the day then fly back, it would be faster than driving, but who can afford to do that these days? [walijo2008]
Try to go on a plane at least once, just to say that you did it. I only flew too three different places in my life. Even though I hated the flying part, the places I went too were well worth it. Without flying I would have never been able to go. [Shar19]

I have never flown just for daythumbdown.I i fly somewhere i go to my native place there i take a one month break and then i come back.It has been long since i went in the plane.I am earning so i think i should use the plane once a while.Yeah a business trip for a day is very boring. We should have time to see the place around and also do some shopping. If the trip is for a week then we can enjoy the trip well.happyhappy [vicky30]
