Glass Bottomed Skywalk Over The Grand Canyon

Here is a picture of the new glass bottomed skywalk over the Grand Canyon. It extends over the west rim of the canyon about 70 ft. Its 4000 ft. over the canyon floor. Its designed to withstand winds of up to 100 mph. It has shock absorbers to keep it from wobbling as it is walked on. The cost to walk out on it is $25 a person. Would you go on it, I would the view has to be wonderful. To see and learn more about it go to the website http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/

Wow it would be preety scary but at the same time it would be a wondurful experience. I am not sure I can go it or not. Actually I have to see the site before going on it. But I hope I would go for it if I visite Grand Canyon some time. [sweetlady10]
I agree with you, it would be scary but such an awesome experience. [Polly1]

I definitely would go on it as it has to be the most amazing view ever to be able to go out there and look at the Grand Canyon from a closer distance. I bet the view is amazing. If i saw the thing shaking, I would hesitate to go out there but it sounds like it will be very sturdy and built very well. Thank you for sharing this link and information. I was not aware that this skywalk was being built. [kgwat70]
I would go out on it too, I have been to the Grand Canyon before and the view is amazing. This walkway would even make it more amazing. [Polly1]

That is awesome. The Grand Canyon is one of the most beautiful places in the world. [shopgirl]
Yes the Grand Canyon is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The view from the walkway has to be awesome. [Polly1]

You wouldn't catch me on it. It seems quite dangerous and I'm way, way, way bothered by heights and the design doesn't seem to reassure me at all. The view would be great, the drop? well that would be greater and It's not a good thing only being designed for 100mph winds. Safety and because I don't like heights No. View might be temping but I doubt it, Laugh out loud =) Kudos Polly1, ~Joey [joey_matthews]
Lol! It's a nice offer polly1, Although I'm not bothered being a chicken when it comes to this sort of thing. I am a daredevil with most things but not heights. They concern me and I don't go in flats so this would be the same. A supporting hand or not. hehe =) ~Joey P.s The first person would be a very brave person... [joey_matthews]

Wow, That is so cool. I have been to the Grand Canyon. My husband and I never had a honeymoon when we got married 28 years ago so after our kids were raised and moved out. We went on vacation to the Grand Canyon and called it our honeymoon. LOL We spend 4 days and 4 night there and still never got to see everything. It was amazing. I wanted to go up on the helecopter ride but we didnt have the money. It so happened that the if we had went up when I wanted to, we may have been the ones who got killed when the helecopter crashed. That is when we were their, the year and exact time of the helecopter crash that killed 3 people (i think it was 3). Anyway, I am afraid of heights, so no, there is no way I would walk a glass bottome walkway over the Grand Canyon. It is amazing how large the Grand Canyon is. There were manytimes, I was afraid because we were so close to the edge. Beautiful site though. Absolutely beautiful [villageanne]
I am not afraid of heights, but I would still be scared. But I would just have to try it, the view would be awesome. I was at the Grand Canyon too, walking up to the edge is a little scary. there are no rails, its just straight down. My son was around 14 when we went, he made me nervous around the edge. There was a crash also while we were there, also some people fell over the edge. It probably happens more than we know. Every American should see the Canyon, pictures just do not show the beauty of it. [Polly1]

Hey, Vicky I am going to check that out it seems interesting. I flew over the Grand Canyon that's the closest I got to the Grand Canyon. Ok, i will check it out and tell you how I like it. [marciascott]
Marcie when we get rich, we will go out together and walk out on the walkway. How does that sound? [Polly1]

That's funny, my husband was just talking about that today. He would love to go. I'm scared of heights so I don't think I would go out on it. $25 seems a little extreme, but I guess they have to pay for the construction of it. [mcmomss]
I agree $25 is alot for that, but the cost of making it was in the millions. It would be such a unique opportunity, the cost would be worth it. [Polly1]

Great pic Polly - gave me the willies just looking at it. I really don't think I could walk over it. I suffer from vertigo and - well - that's a LONG way down! But I would probably crawl across. I know that seems silly - it's still the same distance down, but I know it wouldn't bother me as much to be hugging SOMETHING while I went across! lol Thanks for the link too - will be checking it out and trying not to faint! [imanaree]
Ok, I checked out the link and I didn't faint! But then, I sat on the floor with my computer in my lap just in case! lol. What a fantastic view! Vertigo be d*mned! Now I gotta go and check this out for real! Thanks Polly - I'm going to be dreaming about this for a week at least and probably falling out of bed thinking I'm falling off the walkway! lol [imanaree]

The opening is on March 28th. I can't wait to see it. I've been to the Grand Canyon 2 times and I plan to go back again and again. The place is so amazing! [lostmuggle]
Yes the Grand Canyon is truly amazing. [Polly1]

I would absolutely LOVE to do this! When I first heard about this, I was a little skeptical. After all, it just seemed so far fetched to my mind. However, I kept hearing about it, and then people started saying oh yeah, they're constructing it right now, and and I'm like wow, they're really doing this! I had a look at the website and it looks fantastic. I'd love to be able to go there and do it - just to say I've done it, and to see what the view is like, it must be amazing! The Eagles sure are lucky, they get that view every single day. :) [retardedrugrat]
Yes the Eagles sure are lucky. I would love to go out on it too. [Polly1]

Wow that's amazing. That would have to be another one of those things on my must do list. It looks like it has been built well. [SiteBy]
It would be on my must do list too. [Polly1]

I've heard about this attraction but have only seen a rendering of what it was going to look like. Thanks for posting a picture. That is really cool. Even though I've been on the Grand Canyon helicopter tours, I don't think I could handle stepping out on tis platform. I'm not afraid of heights that I know of but this may change that. I feel shivers just thinking about it...yikes. [rjbass]
You said it, Yikes!! [Polly1]

I think I'd be a little afraid, but it would be an amazing experience. My hubby doesn't like heights, so I don't know if he'd go on it. My kids would probably be thrilled to see it. [earthsong]
That would be an awesome things for the kids to see and do. Think how brave they would feel. Its normal to be afraid, I would but I would still have to check it out. [Polly1]

Ho.. Grand canyon is a beautiful place.. N now such a thing there..? WOW... I love to walk over it. butDont kno will I be able to visit it.. It will be fantastic experience... So high... Will any one be able to look down n walk? [vipinmenontp]
WOW is right. You can see thru the sidewalk and look over the side of it. [Polly1]

Wow, just looking at that gives me the chills! I'm not sure if I could go on that. That's a very large height and heights that large kinda scare me. [highflyingxangel]
I think anyone would be a little scared to go on it, even if they weren't afraid of heights. [Polly1]

Thanks Polly, but we don't know anyone to referr to. Sad, but true! How would I refer people if you don't know anyone? any suggestions? [countrygirlny]
I am not sure what you mean by this comment. Send me a message and I will try to answer you. [Polly1]

actually, no. I am terrified of heights! I wouldn't even look down! [countrygirlny]
It would be scary, but I would have to go out on it. [Polly1]

Heights bohter me to a certain extent, but I would have to try this. Imagine the beauty of the view. It was a very interesting site, the video of how they built it to withstand all the pressures . [suscan]
The site is very interesting, I spent some time on it just looking. It amazing how they put everything together. [Polly1]

I wouldn't do this for 2 reasons. 1. I am deathly scared of heights and I would be freaking out the whole time. I can't even go up a ladder without freaking out. Imagine putting me 4,000 feet above the ground. NOT happening! 2. I don't see the point of paying $25 just to look 4,000 feet down and think "wow, I'm up high". I can just see it now. That thing breaks, someone is on it and falls to their death, and the local newspaper headline reads "Local skywalk operators charge $25 for death". LOL, sorry, I just get paranoid with heights. [AdTe23]
Your response had me laughing. I am not afraid of heights, but I would be very nervous about going out on this. I would just have to be brave and do it. Thanks for the laughs. [Polly1]

Sure I'd go on it! on my hands and knees...*lol* I'm so terrified of heights and I'd also be whimpering and crying the whole 2.5 seconds being on that thing. You should see me on the top rungs of a ladder...you'd think I was raised underground. [Kaeli72]
I bet alot of folks will be on their hands and knees crawling, for some reason that seems safer. But the view and experience would be worth looking like a nut. LOL [Polly1]

that looks so cool! i've always wanted to go to the grand canyon! my grandparents went there on vacation once, and they loved it. now i have a really good reason to go; i think i'm going to go this summer! [theazntiger]
I hope you do get to go, let us know how the view is. [Polly1]

I have been watching this project from the beginning, and it is amazing! I plan on visiting an old friend in Albuquerque this year, and I'm definitely going to try and talk her into taking a weekend to drive up ther and check it out! [gardengrrl]
I hope you get to go, it will be fantastic. [Polly1]

I had never heard about this bridge until now. That's amazing. The Grand Canyon in itself is amazing, but that would be an awesome way to look at it from a different perspective. [monica1981]
I agree it would be an awesome way to see the canyon. [Polly1]

I would like to go on it. That would be fun to go on. Now what would be even better is if they make one like that you can drive on. Maybe over the whole thing would be great. I would like to do that even more. [mikeyr6000le]
Good idea, a bridge over the canyon. Oh my that would be something. [Polly1]

I saw that on the news. I live in Arizona and wouldn't ever go there. I would be to terrified. I'm afraid of heights. A friend of mine on here said she really wants to go out on it. Not me!!! [alterll]
I have been to the canyon once, I would really like to go back. I live all the way across the country, maybe someday I can come back to your state, it sure is beautiful. [Polly1]

That would be great .. I'd want to lie face down and just spend 30 minutes looking below me .. and I suppose it isn't that expensive when you think about it .. [patootie]
I agree with you, $25 for the experience is really not that much. Its not something you do everyday. [Polly1]

Holy Hannah! Not on your life!!! I fell from a high place when I was a kid and have been deathly afraid of heights since. I'm having a very visceral reaction right now just thinking about it! I literally had to crouch on the floor of the car going over Immigrant Pass in California. No way, my friend! Kudos to you for having the strength to do it! I wish you luck! [Cougarlover152]
It would give me the willies, but I would have to try it. I do understand why you would not want to. [Polly1]

I think this view of the Grand Canyon must be fantastic. I'd love to see it, but I'm not sure I'd have the nerve to do so. Rationally, I think this is a great idea, but deep down I can't help but wonder if this might not be a preview for the next "Jackass" movie. I went through elementary school nearby in Flagstaff, Arizona and have visited the Grand Canyon many times, but only once as an adult. I last went to celebrate my 50th birthday in combination with a trip to baseball's cactus league spring training. I loved the baseball, but the canyon was my favorite. I always feel like I've spent some quality time with Mother Nature when I've been there. Unfortunately, I've always had a bit of acrophobia, it's more under control now than when I was younger, but 4,000 feet. That's a lot. I suppose it shouldn't be any scarier than a 400 foot drop. If I fell I'd die just as throughly at 400 feet only sooner. Actually the extra 3,600 feet might be to my advantage should I fall as I'll have more time to pray as many rosaries, prayers, mantras and make as many deals with God as possible. I really do hope to go there. I applaud the Hualapai Nation to try and make money from something other than gambling. I hope this venture is successful and will lead to other attempts at similar projects. I think visiting the Grand Canyon Skywalk will be one of the great thrills in my life. I only hope I can summon up the courage to do so. I wonder if they serve cocktails first. [tfedge]
Your response had me cracking up, lol. The cocktails might help, haha. I agree with you this would be a great thrill, when you look at it like that $25 is not too much to pay for an experience like that. I have also been to the Grand Canyon, its breathtaking. Words cannot describe it, pictures cannot show the beauty of it. It has to be seen with your own eyes. [Polly1]

Is this open to the public yet? I got this is a mail several montha ago and went to the website then itself. I also told a friend about it recently because she recently moved to the Grand Canyon area. I hope it is open soon, I would love to go on it...or maybe I'll change my mind after looking at the glass bottom..lol! [greengal]
I think it opens up towards the end of the month. [Polly1]

Oh my, I get vertigo just THINKING about walking of something like that! I'm the kind of person who can't look down out of a window in a tall building without feeling like I'm going to pass out! I think it would be a great view, and I wouldn't be worried at all about the engineering of the platform, but I know I couldn't physically walk out there. [bishojo17]
I know I want to go and see it, I am not sure if I could. I have been in the Empire State building and the Sears Tower, I had no problems with either of them. this is very different. [Polly1]

i have seen this on the news and NO WAY would you catch me out on that thing. I do not care how safe it is, but unless you got a rope tied around me that will prove to keep me from plunging down that cliff there is no way that i would walk out there. [missyd79]
I would hope I was brave enough to walk ou there, the view has to be terrific. The rope idea is a good one, LOL. [Polly1]

I am afraid of heights so you probably could not pay me to try it out. I am sure its safe but I am not wanting to find out. [liperoterachel]

I am not sure if I could do this or not. I just don't know if I trust only a piece of glass between me and a 4,000 ft drop. I will check out the website thought. Thanks for the link. [gewcew23]

I heard about this. I'd love to go see it someday. Then again I still want to be able to see the Grand Canyon itself. hehe Hopefully someday... :) [Penguinsangel]

I heard on the radio about a lady who was worried about walking out on the walkway in a skirt in case people below could see up her clothes! Man, they'd have to have good vision or powerful Binoculars to see 4000 feet straight up. Can't really imagine a phalanx of perverts lying there at the bottom with their Carl Zeiss lenses ready for action..... [Noot54]
That is funny, she should worry more about the wind blowing up her skirt. [Polly1]

Hubby would be all game for this. Me, no way. I would be ill from it. I am not one that does well with heights. [ElusiveButterfly]

As wonderful as it looks, I don't think that I would be able o do it. I am bothered by heights on ferris wheels and roller coasters so I don't think I could handle it. I know my husband would love to do it though, I saved the link to show him when he gets home tonight. [courtlynne77]
I would love o go out on it, I don't know if I could actually do it though. I am not afraid of heights, but this is kind of extreme. [Polly1]

I been to the grand canyon, but if I would go back I would not go on the skywalk. It would be to scary for me. I get dizzy when I go up to high.I am to frighten of heights. [babystar1]

I think it's a fantastic idea and would love to see it.Now actually going out on it may be a bit tricky since I have severe vertigo, but I'm sure my husban would.;-) [vhansen]

I would love to be able to walk out over the canyon to look down but I fear that I would not be able to enjoy this walk way. I have a great fear of that kind of heights. But this is a great oppertunity to see the Grand Canyon in all it's beauty. [deebomb]
I am not afraid of heights, but I think this would take some courage to walk out on. [Polly1]

I think it would be beautiful to see and definitely worth the cost, at least once in your life. I also think it's a wonderful thing for the Indian Tribe that created the skywalk to not only profit from it, but it helps give them a sense of sharing something that has been with them for generations. [hockeygal4ever]
I totally agree with your comment. I think it would be worth the cost too, how often do you get the chance to do something like this. It would be scary, but if I ever have the opportunity to do this, I am going for it. [Polly1]

This is absolutely amazing. I have been to the Grand Canyon once, as a kid. I surely don't remember all too much except the super fine dirt and gravel. I do remember being mesmerized by it. Looks like I need to pack the family up and go on a road trip! Thanks for sharing! [favorgrays]
