Replying to a discussion earlier made me think just how nomadic many people on myLot are. Many have lived in different countries, or moved extensively about their own country. Despite having done a huge amount of traveling, I have lived in only two different countries and three English counties. How many countries, States or counties have you lived in. Where were/are they and which one would you like to be in permanently?

responses and comments:
One country, six states. I love to live in Karnataka,India [pkraj111]
I've only lived in Canada, but three different provinces: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario. I would love to return to the peacefulness of Nova Scotia. [Squeaker]
I have only lived in one country, USA. I have lived in 2 states, Texas and Pennsylvania. In Texas, I lived in 8 different cities/towns which were located in 6 different counties. I have lived in two towns in Pennsylvania, in the past 3 1/2 years. We have lived in our current house for a little over 2 years. As to which one I would like to be in permanently....that's a hard one. I have liked each place I have lived, for different reasons. However, if something were to happen (God fobid) to my s/o, then I would probably end up moving back down south, since that is where all my family is living. As for now, as long as we are together doesn't really matter where I live. By the way, we are looking at moving sometime next year! He is taking early retirement and we are looking for a home to buy, just not sure where yet. [palonghorn]
Thank you. We are already looking, to see what is available and the prices, etc. We're hoping to get something with a little land or at the least a bigger yard for our dog. If it came down to it.......I'll always be a Texan! lol You can take the girl outta Texas but ya can't take Texas outta the girl lol [palonghorn]
My dad was in the RAF so have lived in many places, I'll try and name them. Born in Surrey, then to Germany, Shawbury (Shropshire), St Eval (Cornwall), my parents went to Germany(again) and we were sent to boarding house. Mine was in Loughborough (Leicestershire). it now gets complicated as my parents now spilt up, mum moved to Carlton (Nottingham) when dad back to England he moved to St Ives (Cambridgeshire), mum then moved to Cotgrave (Nottingham) I moved in with mum here, dad moved onto the RAF base Wyton (Cambridgeshire) and then later to Huntingdon (Cambrigeshire), I then went to Butlins (Skegness), dad spent his time between Huntingdon and Luton. after marrying he lived in Luton but still had his house, then he sold it and then moved to Shetland Island where he is at the moment. My mum again moved to another part of Nottingham while I moved to Yorkshire!! Hope this answers your question as this is pretty much my live history, I have just left my brothers out but that just makes it even more complicated!! [cinderella2007]
No it doesnt ring a bell!!?? [cinderella2007]
I have been up and down the length and breadth of the coutry lol my parents were in private service,so we moved as and when they changed their jobs.I can clearly remember my sister and I used to dread it!!and the thought of the darn Pickfords van turning up again!but the biggest drawback was the constant disruption to our education, each move brought yet another school. But we spent thrty plus years of our life in Wiltshire and then we moved to be near to Mum,in Derbyshire, and I cant foresee myself going anywhere else! P1ke holds his head in his hands and rolling himself into a small ball rocks gently to and fro moaning and sobbing. [p1kef1sh]
I have only lived in one country My Friend. I have lived in australia all my life. Have only lived in 2 states. Born and bred in Queensland, but lived in New South Wales for 7 years when my first husband was in the army. I could never live in any state but queensland. All the states south of me have horrible cold winters, Our winter this year is bad enough without moving south. As for moving to another country, NO WAY Jose. [Goodie123]
No my friend, you have been mislead. There are really only 3 states in Oz that are supposed to be tropical all year round. [Goodie123]
Hmmm ... I was born in Leeds, UK and moved to Australia when I was about 6. To Darwin - the hottest, most tropical city. We stayed there for about 10 years before moving to Canberra - (the coldest-wintered most un-tropical city!) Couldn't wait to get outta there, so married someone who lived on the south coast. (No, I didn't choose him entirely on a Location Location criterion ...) I haven't been very nomadic for the past 30 years, I must admit. We bought a house and have been here ever since - but, hooray for retirement soon ... we're going to Darwin - almost full circle! (Maybe I'll get them to send my ashes to Leeds ... *sigh*) [guybrush]
I shouldn't bother with Leeds now. Although it is supposed to be up and coming. Not quite coming where though LOL. I would struggle with Darwin I think. I am not good with high humidity at all. [p1kef1sh]
Only one country and two citys,i always have a dream that i can arrive other countries,i think i have to wait for a long time, but i am sure i will do it when i have good conditions.happy [zhaosonghan]
Good luck with that dream. [p1kef1sh]
I have only lived in Germany and here and to be honest I will be staying in this Country as I love this Country yes we have a lot of rain and all the carry on, but other Countries have their faults and problems to [gabs8513]
You are right Gabs. I love this country too and like you I have lived in Germany also. I do sometimes hanker after living elsewhere for a while. But I know that we will stay here really. [p1kef1sh]
Hello p1kef1sh. :) I've only lived in two countries. I've lived in four states in the USA. I have lived in many places in those four states. I will have to do a count and come back here to post it as I cannot remember all of them at the moment. [Transdisc]
Gosh Trans. Sounds like a bus route. Still, I hope that you were always one step ahead of the law. LOL. [p1kef1sh]
Maybe its not normal but weve lived in the UK for all of our lives and we love it,folk are so quick to knock it,but they dont know what they are missing. We have the seasons which are so good,as we love the weather changes,we have great trees and greenery and great scenery,so if were here already then why go anywhere else. [Abby123]
I feel the same way Abby. There's no place quite like the UK even with all the problems that we have. [p1kef1sh]
I've lived in the Dominican Republic, South Africa, Israel and the U.S. I am American, but I move a lot for work. [Vladilyich1]
That sounds an exotic grouping of countries. [p1kef1sh]
Hi p1, I was born and raised in the Philippines and now I am new in USA...I both love the places, the people, the food and the culture but in the future, I would like to retire in my COuntry!happyhappy [checapricorn]

I would love to visit New Zealand Lamb. When my mother retired she traveled around the world and spent three months in NZ visiting both North and South. She said that it was her favourite destination. [p1kef1sh]
hi p1ke, I have lived in a few different places so far as well. 4 different places in Germany. I would have loved to stay in the South of Germany, in the city where I studied 20 years ago but life sometimes goes different from what we would like to have and now I ended up in a small city a little more up North . [book1962]
I enjoyed living in Germany Book. I lived close to Moenchengladbach. But there is no place like home. [p1kef1sh]
Hi P1kef1sh, I have only ever lived in England and just two counties, Surrey & Devon. I have travelled abroad for business and for holidays but have never wanted to live anywhere other than England. For me Devon is where I want to be permantently. I would still like to travel some more to experience different cultures but I always look forward to coming home when I go away. Ellie :D [ellie333]
There's something comforting about turning into your own street when you get back from a trip isn't there Ellie. Nice to go, nicer to come home. [p1kef1sh]
Morning P1key..I see you are still mine..lol... I've never had the chance to live anywhere except the USA..was born in California and lived there for many years..then my Father decided to move us back to Wisconsin where he was born and see/meet his family..thats where i met and loved my Greek Family..we moved back to Calif. and then later i moved after my second marriage to Texas..all 5 children were born in California and all 5 grandchildren were born in Texas..my first ex moved here too..so we are one big happy family..ex's and kids and their Kids.. I'm slowly trying to work my way over to your house this evening..LMAO..shhh when's Mrs P1ke leave..hee hee [Rosekitty]
Texas and California are two states that I would love to visit Rosie. But make your way here. We are quite friendly and can even make Americans understand us! LOL. [p1kef1sh]
I was born in Germany. my father was a staff sergant in the army. we lived in Ireland, and many other states here in the USA. i am what is known as an army brat! i have not been traveling like that since I was a child [34momma]
I don't think they are either, but for some reason we lived there for about 6 months. i just remembered that it was the only time my dad didn't work [34momma]
I have never been out of the United States...YET.... But I have lived in Arizona, which I loved, & in Oregon which I also loved I will be moving to New Mexico which I hope I will love!! One day I will get to the UK than watch out everybody because I will want to meet all of my friends from there!!!LOL...Lori [dumblnddzzy]
I hope that you get here Lori We'll be waiting. [p1kef1sh]
I was born and raised in New Zealand and lived their most of my life until we moved to Samoa in 2000. Lived there for 6 years before we moved to the USA. I'm hoping we get to move back to NZ (my family and his are there) but my husband doesn't want to so we shall see. Who knows where our next venture will take us. If it's here then that is fine too as my son and I are enjoying living in Virginia. If not, then I hope it's somewhere tropical or closer to NZ. [maddysmommy]
I guess that you have to go where he goes. I hope that you get closer to home next time too. [p1kef1sh]
I've only been out of MN 3 times in my life... boring I know, I went to Ontario, Canada which is not very far and also to WI and ND. But I will be going to Reno Nevada for a seminar this fall and I really really look forward to it! I'd definately STAY in MN, if I was to move away, I'd like to live in WI. It's so beautiful there... even just to drive thru... the glaciers did wonderful things to that state! [moondrop824]
I guess the MN is a big state though. I hope that you do get the chance to travel more. [p1kef1sh]
I've only lived in the US - but in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida, Texas, Missouri and Ohio. I've lived in 11 different cities and I think I figured out one time that I've moved 39 times in 56 years. [kenzie45230]
That's a lot of moving Kenzie. I bet you're glad to be sat still for a while. [p1kef1sh]
For me, it's one country and within it, one province. Mind you, all of England could fit into my province so I suppose it likely could have lived in about 5 counties within the province by comparison. [BCMike]
Probably Mike. Even our biggest counties are small compared to North American Sates and counties. [p1kef1sh]
Hi p1ke I was with a rock Gospel show when I was younger and we went to Germany and lived in RMATEIN FOR month but I wasn't impressed with it as the roads were so flat the people were ok and some of their houses were so beautiful the way they had been built painted and where they were-then we went to the USA and lived there for a year traveling toronto kansas pennsylvania road or rock island mainly in the south of america-I did like America at the time and would have liked to live out there....now though I have been to Africa stayed out there on holiday and lived out there for a short period of time and it feels like my second home so if it was possible that is where I would love to live...littleowl [littleowl]
I lived in Germany for just over three years Littleowl. I liked it there, but I was happy to come home despite all its faults. [p1kef1sh]
I have never lived in a different country but a few different places in the US. I'm from Chicago so of course there. I also lived in Seattle and Arizona for a bit. Home is home and I like Chicago the best! [skinnychick]
I think that if you are comfortable with home Skinny then that's the place to be. [p1kef1sh]
1 Country 3 counties..all in Scotland, one for nearly 20 years. Which would be Falkirk,Dumfries area in a place called penninghame but i dont mind much about it ,Stirling, Alva,Alloa/Sauchie. I am where i want to be permanently ! Think thats it ! [LoudnProud]
If you're happy there, then why not stay LnP. [p1kef1sh]
I have only lived in England, but I moved from Yorkshire to Dorset to Merseyside to Greater Manchester to London, where I had three different addresses, and more recently to Hampshire. I like to think of myself as a citizen of the world. I spend so much time on the internet communicating with people everywhere. I have visited other countries and I've known people of many different nationalities. Where I live now I am used to hearing people speak Polish, and it reminds me of where I grew up, in an area where there were many Polish and Russian immigrant families. [paid2write]
You're not too far from me and I love this part of the World. I am quite happy to stay here now. [p1kef1sh]
Well,, hmm I have only lived in the United States of America my whole life, But I have visited Canada. I like the United States of America I can not think of anywhere I would rather live in the whole world. If I get the chance I might go visit elsewhere. I do not think that I would ever live anywhere else! I love my Country! [LouiseKnittel]
There's an awful lot to see and do in the US Louise. Traveling is nice, but so is coming home. [p1kef1sh]
I lived in one country The United States and have never set 12 ft beyond the Jersey coast into the Atlantic. I've lived in two other states in my lifetime and no matter where I lived, I always seem to come back to the place I began....the place I call "home". [mrghill]
I'm on the other side of the Atlantic and feel the same way. [p1kef1sh]
I have always lived in the same state. Honestly, I've never moved more than 2 hours from where I grew up. I love the area I'm in and think it's ideal for raising children - after all I was raised here. My siblings have lived in different states, but I never felt the need nor wanted the opportunity to move. I think that people who move are moving for job or school purposes, but I never felt the need to. I have a son that lives in Thialand, the oldest girl lives in Colorado. Another son about 45 minutes from us and now a daughter that moved away to college last Friday that's an hour from us. I just hope where all the land they are close to an airport or bus station because when I get more independance from the younger ones, I know I want to start coming to see them all. As for myself? I love it here. I like my job and can't see moving anywhere else. It just isn't in me. [ljegbers]
There's no law that says you have to travel LJ. If you are happy at home then why not stay there. [p1kef1sh]
Hi, i have noticed this too! I haven't lived in that many different places, only three english counties but i recently moved from the south to the north completely on my own. that was about the time when i started using the internet more to chat with different people and i think maybe it is because it can take a while to make friends when you move to a new area and having friends you can keep in your laptop is very comforting at times like that when you might be feeling a bit lonely! i know it helped me through! i know that's not really what you were asking but i just thought i'd share!! happy mylotting!! xxx [Munchkin547]
I'm pleased that you did share and I hope that you are making friends now. I am sure that you will make more friends as time goes by. I moved to London and met the woman that is now my wife. So moving can be very productive! She might not agree of course. LOL. [p1kef1sh]
hi i lived in the same country the same state and the same house since i was born lol but i do want to move soon!!! [shamzy18]
I hope that you get that chance soon. [p1kef1sh]
I have lived only in one country; the United States, and have lived only in one state; Wisconsin. I have been to Washington D.C, Georgia, Minnesota, West Virgina, and Kansas. Some day I hope to visit other countrys. [know21]
I hope that happens for you soon. Travel is very exciting. [p1kef1sh]
In my home country I have lived in Kent as a child and later when grown up, in Wales whilst I was a student, in Milton Keynes for my first year of teaching and in the last three years have lived in Somerset. I have worked as a children's nanny in Finland. I did a working holiday in Australia. I lived in Sydney, working as a children's nanny and in Cairns dressing up as a koala working for a charity. I studied for four months in the Netherlands as part of my degree. I love traveling and living overseas is a wonderful experience. If I could live in any of these locations permanently I would choose Sydney because it is my favorite city in the world. I wouldn't be able to afford a house in Rose Bay though. [maximax8]
I can tell from your other responses/discussions that travel is something that you enjoy. My daughter went to school in Somerset and is having a party tonight of her friends from both school and uni. It's amazing how many of them have spent time abroad since they left school (One year). In my time the gap year was largely unheard of. I have been fortunate in that I was paid to travel the world. But after 30 years I am happy to stay home more now. Although we are off to Singapore next month. [p1kef1sh]
I was born in Bristol and then wet to Plymouth to work. I then went to Dusseldorf, Germany as an Au Pair. I met my husband, whowas in the army. After we got married we moved to Mulheim. Then we moved back to England, to Ripon in Yorkshire. After my husband came out of the army we went back to Bristol because that as ere he could get a good job. We stayed in and around Bristol and Gloucestershire for a long time althoughwe bought a motorhome and travelled a lot in Britain. After I had a heart attack when I was 52 we decided to give our house up and go touring in our motorhome. We wanted to see the places in Britain and eventually Europe that we have not seen. Also visit soe old favorites. I love Plymouth and we have spent a lot of the last couple of winters there. Worcestershire is a very pretty county as well. Every where we go we find lovely views. We hope to be touring for quite a few more years yet so we should see a lot more counties and hopefully a lot more countries. I think whe we give it up we will probably settle somewhere n Devo or Cornwall, maybe Plymouth. [wanderer086]
I have a friend who retired from the army last year and is doing pretty much what you are doing. They've just come back from the Canadian Rockies. I was there a few years ago and would go back like a shot. That said, there is so much to see in our own country. There is a family close to us that has never had a holiday in the UK, but go to Florida every year. That seems a bit of a shame to me. [p1kef1sh]
Hello p1kef1sh Ji, I travelled extensively my own country, measured lenth and breadth of my country many times, also I went to enjoy my stay at USA for six months and passed through England. But, I know, I belong to a place, where pollution is maximum, life is unsafe, many social problems, besides natural extremes hot/rain/winter are there, but I love my birth-place KANPUR-UP-INDIA. No place in this world can replace my birth place. I would like to be burried there only. have a nice time. [chintoo07]
Hello p1kef1sh Ji, Thanks a lot for considering 'home' as the best choice. have a nice time. [chintoo07]
As you know when I was growing up we moved on the average of every 15 months. It was always back and forth between England and the United States. In the States themselves, I have lived in Ohio, California, Oregon and Arizona. My first choice, although I love England, would be California. There is just nothing like the beauty of Northern California. [kbourgerie]
I've never been to California, but I've seen the pictures though. I love the UK - despite the fact that it is teeming down with rain on a summer's day! I have a house full of 30 teenagers and the downstairs looks like a bar after a particularly hard night. The garden is full of tents (half of them are camping here, and breakfast is going to be sea of sore heads and soggy people. I shall have to get to Ca one day. Perhaps on my way to Arizona!! [p1kef1sh]
I'm a virgin when it comes to living in many areas. I spent most of my life in Pennsylvania, but I've also lived briefly in Boston, New Jersey and in California. Except for the threat of hurricanes in Florida, it's by far my favorite. Many people dream of living in California, but that's precisely where I ran into the most crazies: people living beyond their means, content to panhandle for their meals rather than get a job and everyone just looking for what they can get for nothing, spending their days attending tv game shows, hoping for THEIR turn to spin the wheel, guess the word or whatever to get something free. Memo to self: Stay put RJ. If you're meant to move again, a hurricane will come along and take care of that move. (C) 2008 RJScott [rjscott]
Yep, Jo ... I forgot about the earthquakes in California, and I also neglected to mention that I lived in New York City and North Belmore, Long Island before the pilgrims discovered America. And know what? I never got to visit the Statue of Liberty, though I'd seen it many times from ashore. P1ke, some of the most pleasant people I meet during "the season" here in Florida are from Britain. Mebbe one day you'll be one of them. [rjscott]
Not much anymore. I have settled here in Canada although it certainly wouldn't have been my first choice. But while I was growing up I lived in many different countries some because they were my parent's birth country and many due to my dad's job. My dad is from Angola and I lived there for quite some years. I love it and it would be one of my choices if things were better there. MY mom is from Brazil, another lovely choice climate wise, but maybe not as good economically although it's getting better. I also lived in other countries like France, Belgium, Spain and even Morocco for a short time. ALthough Canada was so much down on my list of places to live in, that's where I ended and I guess the deal now is to make the most of it :) [arkaf61]
Personally I think I would prefer Angola over even Brazil. I lived just across from the bay in Luanda and it was the most wonderful place in the world :) As for Canada, you are right, of course, I can think of many, many worse places to live. But after living in nice and warm places, going to sleep with the sound of the waves gently kissing the sand like a lulaby.... I miss that, who wouldn't That said, I know there are places where I lived before that I think I wouldn't get used that easily now that I've been here. I am getting older. I want good health care, I want polite drivers, I want to walk in the sidewalk without having to go into the street to avoid the cars that are parked on the sidewalk. Since my problem is more a climate and geographical thing ( the being right by the ocean thing ) than anything else, maybe one day we will be able to compromise and move from Toronto to Vancouver - if only the prices there weren't so high we would probably be there already :) [arkaf61]
I lived first in Scotland, then moved to Suffolk, Kent in England and then we moved to Halifax in Canada, stayed in North Vancouver, (I was three years old at the time) then on to Vancouver, lived in British Columbia, got married, moved to Saskatchewan and then to Winnipeg. So those were the places I lived at. I did visit the States before and after I married. I liked the States especially Maine. I love to be near the sea, but if my husband went to the States, he would like to be in Iowa. So we do have a problem. I like it here in Winnipeg, but only because I am close to my friends. It is fine in summer but a bit too cold in winter for me. [suspenseful]
So you have British Blood then Suspenseful. My FIL was born in Saskatoon and he came here! I like the idea of living in Maine too. The coastline is so appealing. I wouldn't want to live too far from the sea ever. We are a 30 minute drive from iy here and that's far enough for me. [p1kef1sh]
I always lived in Italy...in 6 different houses, in 5 different cities...in 3 different regions...i lived in the same place until i was 23 and half years old, then i started to move when parents sent me out of home...im now 25...and i hope i settled down for good until the final move to Montréal ;) all the places ive lived in are in teh North and kind of close to each other...but it is still quite a lot of moving around for less than 2 years...i love where im staying now, i love the friend im sharing the house with and i pray there will be no more moving till my in-laws house really...im so fed up with packing and all that... [JoMarch]
Oh Chiavari, that's close to where im staying now:) that's great! thank you so much for the wishes:) [JoMarch]
How boring is this? I have lived in one state in the United States and only 3 cities here. One of them was for a few months when I was in my first year at a university, but I commuted the other 3 years I went there. Another I only lived for a month before moving back home. The rest of my almost 54 years I have lived in the same city, in the same state, in the same country and have been almost no where even to visit. I have only been to one other country, and that is Canada, which is only a little over an hour away! [idowrite72]
Are you happy with that. If you are then You are every bit as content as someone that has to always be on their way to the airport. There's nowhere like home after all. But if you want to see a little more of the World, then that can be done quite easily too. The important thing is not to have any regrets. [p1kef1sh]
I have onlylived in one state in the United States and that's Utah. I don't like it here, but I am starting college here and don't really plan on transfering to another school, so I am going to be here for at least 4 more years. I don't really have a lot of money, so I don't travel much ( I have never traveled out of the country) and I don't have enough money to move out of state right now. If I get the chance I would definitely move to another state. Actually I have always thought that it would be fun to move to Canada, but I have never even been there so I will definitely visit before I really make any plans to live there. [_sketch_]
Yeah. That's pretty much the way I see it. Thanks. [_sketch_]
Unlike a lot of people on myLot, I was born, raised and still live in New York State. However, when I was 14 years old my parents traveled cross-country by car and we saw and visited a lot of states within the United States. But I have never actually lived in any other state and country except New York and the United States of America. Also unfortunately I have never traveled to or visited any country outside of the U.S., although I would love to visit Italy, France, Spain and Germany, where my ancestors came from 100 years ago. [rckayla09]
Of course I know all it takes is a trip down to the airport! That would be easy enough for my husband and I to drive right on down there because we live near JFK Airport in New York City. But a trip down to the airport -- close or not -- also requires MONEY to get on an airplane. I am very happy living in Queens, New York but cannot afford the price of an airline ticket nowadays, especially that now they are charging $15 for carry-on bags! The last time my husband and I took a trip within the U.S. in the state of Florida, we did NOT have to pay extra for our carry-on bags or anything else for that matter. Times have changed and not for the better. [rckayla09]
I have lived my entire life in the United States, p1kef1sh, in spite of my desire to travel and experience life in other countries. Believe it or not, I've only lived in 2 states and 2 counties! I do not consider the place where I was born to be my home(where I now live), but the state of Tennessee in which I grew up. That is where my heart lies. Most of my cherished memories took place there during my childhood and early adulthood. If I could live in another country I've always thought I would like to live in England because it is so rich in history and beautiful scenery. [worldwise1]
I don't know that I'm surprised that you've lived in two places. You should visit us here in England. The country is as you expect it to be in many places, but not everywhere! If you come I will happily guide you. [p1kef1sh]
I lived in Brasil, USA and now I am in France. My experience in Europe is magnificent and my hubbie is French, I know lucky me! But my favorites place in the world are San Diego, CA, Vitoria in Brasil and Bariloche in Argentina! [valeria1]
I have spent many happy time in France but I have never been to South America. I am pleased that you are enjoying France though. A beautiful country. [p1kef1sh]
I've lived in the United States and Holland. As for states...I've lost track a long time ago. I like living in Holland, I like the beautiful country and people...hate the weather, but then again we can't have it all can we?? So I think Holland will be my permanent country from here on out, I've been here 15 years already and not sick of it yet! [sagesunicorn]
I find so many people that have been here and like it very much also. And you're right, it's even got mountains...Very Sort Of!! happy [sagesunicorn]
Hello there p1kef1sh! I still live in my birthplace. Though I have lived in different places when I was younger, my family decided to stay here for good. I have traveled a lot but all of which are just for pleasure. I have intentions of going abroad (United Kingdom) to further my studies in business and hope to stay in that country for a while even after I finish my course. If ever, I would like to live in Ireland or in Spain or in Australia and stay there for good. Who knows?happy [dolce_vita78]
When I was a baby, my parents moved at LEAST once maybe more in NJ. However, since I've been in Texas my permanate address has always been in Austin. I have, however, gone to college in Bell County, Hays County and Denton County. The towns would be Killeen, San Marcos and Denton. Only Killeen was not the county seat, as Austin, San Marcos and Denton are the county seats of their counties. [ElicBxn]
LOL, But I wasn't really "living" there, just going to school. Hey, if I had gone down one more county I could've been in New Braunfuls, home of an annual Wurstfest and of the most famous water park in the world (so I'm told) Schlitterbahn WaterPark Resort. Yes, it was settled by German immigrants. My allergiest was located in Fredericksburg until his retirement - well, he's probably still in the area.... [ElicBxn]
Well, I was born in India (mom came to her mother's for the the delivery). 2 months after I was born, I was taken to Bahrain where I was till the age of two. My parents then moved to Kuwait....where I spent most parts of my childhood. For a few years in between, we moved back to a state called Kerala in India. And then we went back to Kuwait again. We moved back to Kerala during the Gulf invasion and my father returned to Kuwait in a year and my mother and sister followed him in another year...while I continued my Education in another state of India, Karnataka (in a place called Hubli). I then went back to Kuwait for work and returned to Kerala after my sister finished high school. I was married soon after and moved to Bangalore(the capital of Karnataka) and have been here since then. But I have visited many other countries and states of India. [SViswan]
28 states and 7 union territories!! Hope you get to visit all of them....I haven't had the chance as yet..lol [SViswan]
I have bene fortunate to live in 3 countries, Guyana in South America, Italy and Bermuda. I would like to be in Bermuda permanently, I love the island [gtdonna]
Must be the fish chowder, the pink sand, the swizzle or it is just the air of the island, not to mention the money working there is good. Who knows! [gtdonna]
I've not moved around all that much. I've lived in 2 states in the U.S.--Illinois and Florida. I've lived in 3 counties: 2 in Illinois and 1 in Florida. We live in Florida permanently as my husband and I decided to move here to get a jump start on our "semi-retirement." He hates the cold weather and just wanted to get down here, find a home, get settled, and then keep working for a while. [PearlGrace]
Climate wise I should think that there's quite a difference between the two states, especially in winter! I love the idea of moving for semi-retirement. So many people retire, sell up and move to the place of their dreams only to discover that it's not what they thought it was. Settling in slowly makes a huge amount of sense. [p1kef1sh]
Like yourself, I've lived in two countries and three UK counties. The three UK counties that I've lived in are even neighbouring each other. I imagine that I'll stay put now, but who knows what the future holds? [GreenMoo]
Where you are now sounds hard work but worthwhile. I sometimes wish I had done it twenty years ago. But I wanted different things then. [p1kef1sh]
Well, when I was younger we traveled alot and I didn't really like it much. But I did love being able to go swimming on Christmas day in Arizona with 95 degree weather. I would love to live near a beach so that I could go swimming everyday I love the water.. [mtdewgurl74]
Yeah we have a bunch of lakes around where I live some within 30 miles of me. But lakes are totally different then beaches with their warm sands and cleaner waters..We have one beach that is in the next county over it is called Lawrence county beach and I loved going there for a swim the water was just great. But it cost so much a hour/day to go. My sister had a party there last year and it cost her $200 to rent it for 2 hours. I would love to get to go back but not having a car and all and it's to far to ride a bike or walk.cry You have to watch some lakes because you never know whose sewer might be in there. [mtdewgurl74]
well p1ke i have only lived in australia.the only state i have lived is n.s.w.,but several different places on the coast of n.s.w.i currently live on the central coast about 1 hour from sydney.i would love to move to queensland ,especially when i retire,as i love the warmth up there.also i will be near our dear friend goodie.cheers sue [suehan1]
Goodie's always moaning about the cold Sue! LOL. But I do hear that Queensland is quite a hot spot generally. [p1kef1sh]
I've lived in the USA all my life. I have lived in 3 different states when my husband was in the Air Force. But we now live in our home state where we were born. I have only lived in two different counties here. When we decided to build a home, we bought land from my husband's Dad which is in a county where I had never lived before. I suppose you could say we are here permanently since we have lived here for over 38 years. [Barb42]
I'm from a small town about 25 minutes from here. Most of my people are close except for my daughter and her children. Her second husband moved her off over an hour away and she's stayed there although she was divorced over 8 years ago. There is so many things that make us stay here. I come from a family as does my husband that are known for living in the same place all their married lives. We can't claim that but we have been here since my son was 22 months old. happy [Barb42]
I have always lived in India. I have never seen any foreign country so far and don't think I ever shall. For a short time, I lived in Bangalore, one of the metros of India, and I hated every minute of it. I am not a city person; I love the peace and quiet of the suburbs. Give me a few pets, a beautiful garden, and a lovely cottage, and I am the happiest person in the world. A nomadic life is just not for me. Cheers and happy mylotting [positiveminded1977]
You make it sound very peaceful and relaxed Positive. Thank you for that. [p1kef1sh]
I've only lived in the USA and in 3 states, although one state I don't remember living in. If I had my preferences, I would live in Oregon to be nearer to family. And I like the fact that Oregon doesn't have too many catastrophes related to weather! No hurricanes, no earthquakes, etc. happy [renitaperrone]
Sounds good to me. Hurricanes and earthquakes? No thank you! [p1kef1sh]
I have always lived in England, and I have lived in, 5 counties in my thirty five years I think. I have lived in Swindon, and I have lived in three places in Manchester and then where I currently am now. Out of all, I do not know which I would prefer to live in. None of them I would say, I would move to another place instead. [gemini_rose]
What other place would you like to live in Gemini? Town, country? [p1kef1sh]
hi pikefishey dear I was born in south Dakota, moved to Arizona when I was 30, met my husband to be when I was 31, and he was from Washington State. we married.lived in Tempe Arizona til my son was almost four then moved to California. We have since been in three houses, then in numerous apartments but always here in Southern California. Now I dont know just what the heck is going to happen, I am so upset. my son had not yet got a new job, because his ex boss gave the unemploymeent insurance people a vicious report, he was denied unemployment benefits so now we are here day 7 of the month and rent due on the 3rd, and no rent payment. He is still really looking for a job in computer programming as that is what he is experienced in. so hope he finds one very son. this is really stressing me out.pray for me please. thanks much. sorry to rant like this. [Hatley]
You have my prayers gladly. It is not fair that you should be stressed this way. In the UK you would receive a pension; does that not happen in the US. You'd also receive Housing Benefit from the state to help pay your rent. Is the apartment yours or your son's? I do so hope that he can find something soon. Maybe he will have to look at jobs other than computing temporarily. If you are his dependent does that not qualify him with the Unemployment people at all? I don't know if any of the organisations here can help: www.at-la.com/cities/tustin/charitable.htm or the City Council of course. Take care Hatley. [p1kef1sh]
I have lived in two countries. I am now back in my hometown where I was born and raised, but for about a 12 month period during 2007-08 I lived in Arizona, in the United States. I say "over a period" because I did come home for a few weeks here and there, still maintaining my apartment up here. [danishcanadian]
There must be a quite a climate difference between the two places. I like the sun, but prefer a cooler climate really. [p1kef1sh]
I've lived in three countries - Bahrain, Kuwait and India. But in India, I've lived in two different states - Kerala and Karnataka. Hmm....I just noticed all those places start with a 'K'! Well, I've still got a decade or more to live (hopefully) and I plan to live in other countries too. I like all the places I've lived in for different reasons. If I had to choose though, Kerala would be it. [SViswan]
I hope that you have considerably more than a decade to live! I wish that I knew India better. I have been briefly staging in and out of Nepal. [p1kef1sh]
