How Far Will You Go

Are you travelling to visit loved ones for Christmas....how far are you going? I'll be staying put but one of my daughters is coming tomorrow from Sydney...it's just over 7 hours driving and that includes several stops for resting, peeing and shopping. 2 of my granddaughters will be with her and also their dog. Their Dad will come the following day on Christmas Eve. I'm not sure of the actual distance but I know it's a long way. They will go home again on Sunday Are you travelling.....far?? Are family or friends travelling to see you? How far are they coming?

Hey MsTickle! I think that is so wonderful that you will have your family there with you on Christmas! It doesn't matter how far they are coming, as long as they are going to be there! I am so happy for you that you all will be together on Christmas Day! I hope you all will have a wonderful time together! I would like to wish you the happiest of Christmases and may you all enjoy the best of times together! Hugs, Opal [Opal26]
Yes Opal, I'm quite excited and Jo tells me the girls are too. It's a busy time but I'm letting my energy come from my excitement...lol. We always have a great time together with lots of games, laughter and being silly...Jo videos it all and has us in stitches replaying it all. Thank you for those lovely wishes and I wish you warmest blessings too.Have yourself a lovely time. [MsTickle]

I'm staying home too. My kids are coming to me, they don't have far to go. Next door and across the street. My mom is coming too, she lives about a 20 minute drive from here. I wish you a Very Merry Christmas, and a most Joyous New Year. [Polly1]
It's a stinking hot summer here and we are desperate for rain...December is a month when we can normally receive a good rainfall but it hasn't happened this year and we are running out of time.sad [MsTickle]

Hi Ms Tickle, I am going away to my sister's for Christmas day and it is not so far, it will take us about 1 hour 45 minutes, but spending New Year on our own, hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hugs. Tamara [tamarafireheart]
That's a fair way sweetheart...will you stay overnight. I hope the roads are safe for you. Merry Christmas and Happy new Year to you and your family as well. Love n hugs happy [MsTickle]

I'm traveling a whole 5 miles.lol We're doing Christmas at my youngest sister's house just south of town. I am hoping the weather stays clear, because my oldest sister lives about 180 miles away, and she won't be down if the roads are bad. [The_Lamb_Lies_Down]
lol@ catch-up I hope you have a wonderful time with your sister lamb [Aliceinwebland]

Well, I am not travelling ot see anyone..but I don't know if my sister and her family will pop in or not this holiday, as money is so tight it squeaks..If weather permits it my mom will be at my house with my little sister but they don't live that far away 20 minutes away. Whereas the rest of my family live between an hour and up away and out of state most of them. [mtdewgurl74]
Having too much is one of the best parts Alice. Then you can have leftovers and salad. Yum We will be having roast turkey for Christmas lunch and so I'm looking forward to cold turkey and salad for dinner that night... [MsTickle]

I'm glad you'll have family with you during the holiday Tickle. What a treat to be able to see your granddaughers eh? I envy you. I don't have grandkids.....yet! LOL The hubs and I will be travelling to Alberta (9 hours away) to visit with his Mom, and I'll be meeting up with my youngest son there who will be coming in from B.C. (8 hours from Alberta). I haven't seen my youngest in over 3 years and I'm so stoked to be able to see him. I've missed him so much........... [sparkofinsanity]
I'm coming to your place Alice...woohoo! [MsTickle]

I have been very fortunate that my children have always traveled back to see me. There was one year that my parents, and my two youngest children traveled to Maryland to see my oldest child for Christmas. At the time it was an 8 hour trip. This Christmas my oldest and his wife are coming to see us for Christmas. The two youngest are home from college. It will be a grand time! [crazynurse]
I'm sure there will be lots of hugging and fun and laughter at your place. I hope everyone arrives safely and that you all have the best Christmas ever. [MsTickle]

If it isn't snowing in the Sierra Nevada (think "the Donner party"), we will be going to my Dad's in Nevada for Christmas. If not, staying home. [dawnald]
The Donner party is a group that was coming to California in covered wagons and they made the mistake of crossing the Sierra Nevada too late in the year. They got snowed in, were trapped and many of them died. The Donner pass is one of the two most likely ways for us to get to Dad's over the Sierra. [dawnald]

Well, if it's to see my loved ones I don't mind which time of the year it is, I would travel as far as it takes. My record is flying for 19 hours, and I hope I don't have to beat it, as it's really tiring. [madteaparty]
That would be a bit of a pain. Are you visiting family this Christmas or are they coming to you? [MsTickle]

Me and my family are staying right at home. :) Which I am happy of because the roads are not in good condition right now, what with all the ice. We may venture up to my Grandpas property on Mable Lake however, yet that isn't that far of a drive. [snafushe]
I wish you and your family a safe and happy Christmas. [MsTickle]

I only live about 8 miles from my mom and I will probably go to her house Wednesday to see if she needs anything from the store and I know I will go Friday and spend most of the day there and I might also go Thursday(Christmas Eve). I migt just call her Wednesday to see if she needs anything and if she doesn't then I will just go Thursday ad Friday. I left my cats presents at her house by the way! [muscles4me]
What a good daughter you are. I like to have my critters around me for the jolly times. I have special treats for the goats...jam tart biscuits. The dogs and cats will all get a little turkey. The rest of us will have all the traditional things. My daughter is doing all the big ticket items and last minute shopping. I'm preparing what can be prepared ahead of time and I will also cook the turkey dinner. [MsTickle]

I'm driving to south Austin... lol depending on traffic, its either 15 minutes or an hour or more - Austin traffic can be really bad! However, my sister is in town from Knoxville TN - she flew here, its about a 16 hr drive if you drive it - maybe more like 20... I've never done it straight - I always started 4 hours up the road in Lewisville, when my brother lived there and then we stopped to see a friend, who has since died, in Arkansas. [ElicBxn]
well, snow... they get a good bit in the panhandle, but not much where I'm at - still, the people around here go crazy when it RAINS, much less let something worse fall from the sky! I was more thinking of those further north than I am and all their really bad weather! However, supposed to storm on Christmas Eve and turn cold then and even colder on Christmas Day. [ElicBxn]

hi MsTickle, I sure cant beat that distance. Today we will go and see my Mother in law who is an 1,5 hours drive from us. i have heard that they have about 6 inches of snow there so I am not really looking forward to this but hmmmmm got to put up with it. We will take that snow into consideration and know we need a little more time than usual to get there. On Dec 25 we will travel by car also to see my mom who lives 3,5 hours from where we are. She is 85 and not in good health so I told her we would come to see her though she frets about the distance and the driving. [book1962]
I find it difficult dealing with our parents generation. You find so many who are complaining that their grown up kids dont take enough time to be with them and you find the others like your dad who will not even be happy about the attention he gets from the family. My mom also does clearly NOT value the efforts the extended family makes so she is visited and cared for as much as she lets others do for herself and thats not much indeed. She still is very independent and stubborn in that very old age and somehow whatever you do is plain wrong so I am taking a big step back from all the efforts and do a bit less. [book1962]

I will stay at home this Christmas. I will pop over to mu sister's house which is local on Christmas Day. My sister's mother-in-law usually spends Christmas in Canada but this year she will spent it with my family. She especially likes my baby daughter. Funnily enough they share the same birthday. I have only spent two Christmas times overseas and three New Years abroad. I was on my way around the world at Christmas time. I was in New Zealand for Christmas another year. I was on vacation in Turkey for one New Year. I love traveling but Christmas is the time of the year that airfares are at their highest. Happy Christmas to you Ms Tickle. [maximax8]
I've lived overseas and done a few years of 4 wheel driving around this state with on big trip half way across Australia but other than that, I'm an inexperienced traveller. I would love to see more of my country and go overseas but I am not one to go off alone. I have my animals too so that makes things a tad difficult. It's a shame that's when air fares are highest because that is probably a very busy time as well. I hope wherever you are that you have a safe and joyous Christmas. Happy New Year too.happy [MsTickle]

hiya MsTickle happy I'd go to the ends of the earth to be with loved ones, I wouldn't have air-fare of course, but I'd get there by hook or by crook lol. It's nice to hear your daughter will be spending Christmas with you and moreso getting to be with the children! I am the one doing the travelling, but luckily it's only a bus ride on Christams eve then a short walk on Christmas day, as my mum, daughter and I all live in close proximity. I hope you have a lovely Christmas hon. Alice happy [Aliceinwebland]
How lucky you are to be close to your Mum and daughter...but then again, being so far away seems to add to the magic and joy of my family being together on these special occasions. Jo was saying her eldest was saying recently that they should be coming to see me more often. They've been coming at Christmas and Easter. It's hard to believe that they will be here tomorrow...that means lots of hugs for me!! Yay. I miss hugs most of all. I hope your Christmas is special and wonderful Alice. Brightest blessings to you and your family. [MsTickle]

I'm travelling (by bus!) to get home this Christmas. It's pretty bad that my last day at work is on the 23rd and on the same night, we'll be having our company's year end party, which is a must-go for all. I could not imagine how the terminals would look on the 24th. I'm hoping that most people would have gone home by then and that it wouldn't be too bad. But alas! That's just a stupid wish at the back of my head because I know for a fact that it would be a kill or be killed scenario when I get there. Happy holidays! I'm excited to get home, I'm sure your family is too :) [oyenkai]
Enjoy the work party. Hope you get home quickly and safe and sound as well. Hoper your Christmas is just marvellous. [MsTickle]

Hi Ms Tickle!! Sounds like quite the trip for Xmas.. I have never dreamed of travelling such a long distance for such s short time.. Your daughter and her family sure are looking forward to this special time together with you. I hope it is a wonderful time indeed for you all. Happy Christmas, my friend! ps.. We are going nowhere, but my wife's mother will be here. a 15 minute drive away and I will go and fetch her.. that suits quite nicelywink [fjaril]
Thank you my lovely friend.happy [MsTickle]

may go to visit my wife's aunt since she come to this city and stay with her son in another district recently.the distance is around 100kilometers and need more than 6 hours to go and back if by bus. but we have no car still so only can by bus . the traffic here is very bad and crowded on the holidays. [celebratelifeh]
That sounds like such a pain. I hope the journey is a jolly one with everyone in the Christmas spirit. I've always been with family at Christmas, either at my home or driving just a short time to where the festivities are being held. Maybe you could stay overnight at your wife's aunt's place. I hope your Christmas is happy in any case. Brightest blessings to you. [MsTickle]

I do not have to go anywhere! I stay home and make some calls. My children will all be here and that is what counts the most at this time. All of my family live too far to travel and I do not get to see them very often. [olivemai]
your children are your family. Long distance phone calls are great too. We do that with other family members...everyone crowds round the phone calling out their happy messages. I love it ...it's such a happy time. I hope your Christmas is just great.happy [MsTickle]

Hi Ms Tickle, Well, I am not traveling to see anyone..but I don't know if my sister and her family will pop in or not this holiday, as money is so tight it squeaks..If weather permits it my mom will be at my house with my little sister but they don't live that far away 20 minutes away. Have a nice day. [king512]
Thanks king. I hope you have a nice day in spite of your financial worries. I've had a few problems lately and it's amazing how events occur so that things turn out alright in the end. I hope the same happens for you. I hope the weather turns out fine for you to be able to spend time with your family.happy [MsTickle]

Hi! Yes, I will, but I will travel on 26th December, just because my girlfriend is at work on Christmas and I can't leave her alone on this holy day! We will travel together on 26th and visit our families and stay there for about a week, to 3th of January. We will stay there for New Year. We will travel about 450-500 km with the train, because our families live far away from us. Well' maybe in big countries like Russia or China 500 km are nothing, but for a country like Bulgaria is far awayhappy [nautilus33]

I love to travel and if given the opportunity I will really go to very distant places. I know it will be too tiring but then, I think it's exciting also. We went to my Aunt's place last time and I think it was 6 hours drive from our place...but I enjoyed it a lot since I am with my relatives that time and we keep on talking each other without noticing that we were already there.lol [joannaleed]
Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Hope you have the same good times this year. Merry Christmas. [MsTickle]

Today I will be visiting with my family to Deogarh. Traveling is good for health and mental freshness. So I suggest everyone to go for travelling once every year if not more. [mudraonline]
And how far is Deogarh from where you are nowe? Is it a long way? [MsTickle]

I would thnk about 350 to 400 miles We are staying home and Son is to bring the dinner from his home as he wants to save ua gas for we would have to go up ther in 2 cars [Lakota12]
yes a very wonderful son and DIL [Lakota12]

Christmas is a time for reunion in our family. Since all of us are scattered all over the places, we make it a point to come back to our mom's place to have one big celebration. My present house is two hours drive to my mom's house so I need to drive back home early to make preparation for christmas. Yes, my sister and her family came back home a week ago from Adelaide to be with us. lol [zandi458]
Wow zandi...sounds fantastic! I'm sure there will be some wonderful times at your Mum's house. Travel safely and enjoy yourself. Merry Christmas dear.lol [MsTickle]

I'll be at home Christmas morning and my mum who lives about 5minutes drive away will be coming up. On Saturday,I'm hoping to visit my son who lives about 30miles away so, not travelling too far. I hope your family has a safe comfortable journey and that you all enjoy a very happy festive season [Wizzywig]
Thankyou Wizzywig...same to you mate. Travel safely now...ok? Cheers. [MsTickle]

Sadly, it's just our immediate family and we're staying home for most of the day. We will go out and feed the local ducks and geese. I hope you enjoy your celebration and form lots of new, great memories! [catdla1]
I'm sorry that you're having problems with your family. It certainly isn't fun to be the subject on malicious gossip (no matter how well intentioned) within the family. If this has been going on for a while, it sounds like you probably just want to stop sharing any information with them that they can turn around and use to gossip about you. If a family member asks questios about things you don't want to talk about you are certainly within your rights to say, "I prefer not to discuss that". Just because they are family, doesn't mean they have a guaranteed right to your private business. If you change your mind and visit with the family for at least part of the day, try to keep conversation light and away from subjects they have no business talking about. If you do opt to stay home, I hope they get the message, and that relationships can be rebuilt into something more respectful towards you. MsTickle is correct in believing that families should be able to set aside differences and get along at least for holiday events like Christmas. Sometimes I know that it's almost impossible to do, especially if the family if confrontational. It's really sad, because as upsetting as these differences are, too soon family members are gone from us. Then we look back and wish they could be around again....even if it was for one more argument. [catdla1]

I'm not christian but I just want to share about travel planning I just have a plan to travelling to Bali by riding a car with friends from Jakarta to Bali to get a new year moemnt there...It would be spectacular...We need at least 10 hours to going there but it's never mind...my trips would be fantastic I hope it so much [anjrit]
I'm sure it will be lots of fun...I envy you. Stay safe and have fun.lol [MsTickle]

We actually have a fair amount of travelling that we are going to be doing over both Christmas Eve and Christmas day, but it isn't nearly as much as your daughter and her family has to do. On Christmas Eve we will be driving approximately 100 miles each way to Cincinnati to spend some time with my extended family. Then on Christmas Day it is 20 miles each way to my husband's family's home and then we will also go to my mother's house which is only about 5 miles away from our home. Christmas is the only time of the year that we travel that much in two consecutive days. [dorannmwin]
You'll need to be organised...think of all those hello and goodbye hugs you can give and receive...marvellous!!w00t [MsTickle]

Hi, MsTickle. I know for sure that I am not travelling far to see anyone for the holidays. Maybe some of my family members will come down from afar. I am not sure. No one has said anything to me about someone coming over for the holidays. If they are then I guess I will see them then. I wished that I could travel for the holidays. I am spending Christmas as I usually do. [cream97]
My daughter once said to me..."Christmas is what you make it" and ever since then, even when I have been totally alone, I make it special. Family makes it absolutely special. I hope your Christmas is everything you make it be.happy [MsTickle]

I am fortunate again this year as I don't have to travel anywhere, because I live with my parents, we don't visit anyone for Christmas and no one comes to visit us, we always have a quiet Christmas which is the way I am used to and like. I am not a big Christmassy person and I look forward to what the new year has to bring us. Not being a bah humbug but to me Christmas is too commercialized and it's for the children. We don't have children we are all adults so it's just going to be like any other weekend with the exception of presents. Have a wonderful Christmas my dear friend wishing you happiness for a brighter 2010. [wolfie34]
Thankyou very much wolfie and the same to you dear one. Big hug.wub [MsTickle]

I have it very easy for Christmas day. Me and my boyfriend are going to parents who live around the corner, just a five minute walk. Although in this horrible slippy snow it will probably take us nearer 15 minutes as they live at the top of a hill. Other then that there will be some family coming to vist my parents and myself but they only have a 30 minutes drive, but again it will take about another 20 minutes then ususual due to snow being everywhere. [kelly10]
Hi kelly. A white Christmas - how wonderful. Wishing you lots of joy and a safe journey through the snow. I've never seen snow...it's very hot here and we are expecting and wishing hard for some rain. Happy Christmas to you.happy [MsTickle]

Hello MsTickle, this will be the first christmas that I will be spending on my own, my son is working and my daughter and her boyfriend want christmas day to themselves but she has aked my son and myself over on Boxing Day fortunatley he drives so we will be alright. Apart from that I will be at home in the warmth and to me I don't mind either....LoLo [littleowl]
Merry Christmas littleowl dear. I've spent a couple of Christmases on my own and I didn't mind at all. Of course I made myself roast turkey which I love so Christmas wasn't a total loss. When I was a child we would go to my aunt's for Boxing Day lunch. It was always a very special day for us....some fond memories there.happy [MsTickle]

Ha. I'm going a mere.. 5 miles to my family's house on Christmas Eve. We don't really have all that many relatives who live elsewhere than the city I live in, Minneapolis. It must be exciting (although also a pain in the neck, I would imagine) to fly out or take a road trip to spend time with your family. [maezee]
My daughter loves to drive the distance to visit with me. She has a managerial position in the city so getting out on the country roads feels really good to her. It would be a pain to have to fly...so many things seem to go wrong when people try to fly at Christmas. My daughter will be here for 5 days so she will have time to relax. Her hubby does odd jobs for me while he's here...he likes to be needed. I'm very lucky. [MsTickle]

Yep I am leaving tomorrow to my Sons and Daughters I will be staying with my Daughter but going to spend time with my Son to every Day I will be on the road for about 3-4 hours depending on the Weather really Have a lovely Christmas much love to you [gabs8513]
Travel safely Gabs...no sneezing on Mum Gissi. Merry Christmas to you Gabs, Gissi too and also your son and daughter. Have a lovely time and be well.happy [MsTickle]

Wow thats a long way to go! Your very lucky to have a family that will travel for you... that's really nice! I wont be traveling at all... my family is coming over my house and will be opening gifts and having dinner! But if i wasn't having the part here i would travel for my family! Family is super important to me and especially around the holidays its nice to see everyone. [Jennifer_lee_88]
I know i cant wait! Thank you and have a great Christmas (i hope Santa got u what you wanted! lol :) ) [Jennifer_lee_88]

Wow, that really is quite of long travel for your daughter. Well my family lives pretty close together so there isn't a long travel for anyone. I remember a long time ago when my parents would have to spend around 6 or 7 hours travelling by car and ferry to just come to my home to celebrate the holidays with us. [nijolechu]
I'm glad that you are all closer now and can be together more easily. Have a warm and wonderful Chappyhristmas. [MsTickle]

I am travelling to my daughter's on Christmas eve. It is only about 40 mins. away but OMG....the road leading up to her door is like something from the 18th century. There is supposed to be a snow storm so I'm just a little nervous. It'll all be ok I'm sure because once there, we are spending the night and celebrating Christmas all together. It'll be a great time...it always is. Have a great Christmas, MsTickle! It sounds as if it will be hectic but memorable and fun! [sid556]
I'm sure you will make it safe and sound..a little nervousness will keep you safe. This is the second time the family has been here in the 4 years I've lived here. Last year was a lot of fun. I think spending the night is a great idea...things are not so rushed and you can make the most of it all. Have a warm and wonderful visit with your family this Christmas dear friend. happy [MsTickle]

We have just driven 5 hours today to spend Christmas with our son. We are staying here for 5 days before we start back home. Whilst here, we will also be using the time to visit friends, and are looking forward to a wonderful Christmas lunch with friends and family together. [abbey19]
Hi Abby. Sounds like you will be busy enjoying yourselves. My daughter is here now...sleeping. We are all set for a lovely Christmas I think...except for the heat...it's dreadful. Hope your visit is joyful and that you arrive home safely again. Merry Christmas to you and yours. happy [MsTickle]

Traveling in a 273 000 square km country like my own (Romania) may seem much easier to do than traveling across Australia of which it is an understatement to call it a "country" - it's a continent. I said that it only seems easier for people in my country to travel because the roads, railroads and airports around here are miserable. It snowed about 30 cm a few days ago and the trains had at least 2 hours delay. Some people that were most unfortunate to be surprised on the road by the snowfall had to sleep in the car for more than 24 hours (in some areas it snowed more, about 60 cm, so the cars were totally blocked). For most of the year I live in the capital city, Bucharest, which is 66 km away by train and about 90 km away by car from my parent's house, which I call "home". The day me and my sisters left for home, it took us about 6 hours to get there. We left at 7 am, got to the train station around 8 am, stayed in the train from 8.15 (the departure time) to 10.15 when it left the station, got off at about 12 and then we went on foot (there's about 3.5 km from the train station to home) through snowfall and blizzard. It hasn't snowed since Sunday, so the trains are running fine now and the roads have been cleared. The road back depends a lot on how the weather will be the first Sunday of 2010. [stvasile]
Ah so Romanian cubs can do that! Some spartan cub that. LOL. [vandana7]
