How Many States Have You Been To

I have been to about 18 of them. I will be visiting a new state, Michigan this fall and also Canada, which will be the first time I have ever been out of the country. My daughter has been to 11 states and will also be adding Michigan and Canada to her list this fall. Her plan is to visit the 48 continental States during her life time. At first she said all fifty, but I told her that Hawaii and Alaska were not states that you can drive to, so she settled on the 48 that she can get to by car. She is only 11, and I think it is a great goal for her to have. I love to travel around the US and hope that she gets to do lots of travling. She has Alabama on her list and I have never been there so she has one I don't! I also hope that she DOES get to visit Hawaii and Alaska in her life time. I think both would be wonderful places to visit! I have to say that our home state of Tennessee is my favorite that I have been to. I love our mountains and rural life. I live in the eastern south of the state and have many national and State parks with in a few hours drive from here. That is my favorite areas, the wilderness! How many have you been to? Which is your favorite state and why??

I live in Canada and have not been down South for a while. I used to live in Vancouver and we would go down to Washington and as far south as Oregon, mainly camping. When I got married, we drove through Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota . I have also been in Alaska. I have not been to all of the States, so have no idea what would be more beautiful. We plan to go East and my husband does not want to drive through the States, but I am going to sneak his passport into my purse so that on the way back, we can go through some of them. [suspenseful]
I would love to go to Montana! I think the mountains there would be SO beautiful. We are going to enter Canada this fall, but will not see much of it. I have never been farther West then Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. I live in Tenneesse and I have been to most of the East coast from New York down. [tammyr]

I recently counted how many states I had been to, as we were getting ready to drive across the country and pass through several states I had never visited. I think I am up to 30 states now, but it may be a little bit less than that. Oddly enough, I've never been to California or Texas. :) So far, my favorite state is definitely Washington, where I live now. It's beautiful here, even with the rain! :) [scarywhitegirl]

I've been stuck at 48 for several years now. Still need to hit Alaska and Hawaii! =p When I was a little kid, my brother and I were jostled around between relatives, friends of the family, whoever would take us at the time. And we often didn't live in the same place. So we made these little punch cards for how many states we had been to, and rules for how long we had to be in them before it counted, and made it into a whole game. I was way ahead the last time we talked about it (which was years ago) and as far as I know, neither of us still has the cards. I still want to get to Alaska and Hawaii someday though. I would have to say my favorite state right now is Michigan, where I've lived for the last 8 years. But I haven't seen all of Michigan or anything, mostly just the Upper Peninsula, which is all very beautiful with Lake Superior, and all the trees and waterfalls and things, but also very harsh sometimes with the long winters. I was born in Kentucky, and though the countryside is pretty there, the bad memories I have of the place are enough to ruin it for me. [lecanis]
Welcome to mylot, 1_Charmed! I hope you find it to be everything you want from it! You do not get your pennies for commenting, as you did here, but if you respond by hitting the respond button at the bottom of the topic, you get paid for that. HAPPY POSTING!!! [tammyr]

I have not traveled very much unfortunately, but here is a list of the states I have been to: California (I've lived here my whole life), Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, and Virginia/Washington DC (I'll put those two together since Washington DC is so close to Virginia). So, I've spent some time in 7 states. However, I have spent some time in airports in Colorado and Illinois - does that count? I never left the airport - I just had layovers in those states. I will always be visiting Texas in September for a conference for my work. I would love to see all 50 states someday, but I don't know when that will happen. As far as my favorite, I'll have to say California. I have lived here my whole life and I don't think I'll ever want to move. But, besides the state I live in, Hawaii is my next favorite state. It is absolutely beautiful in Hawaii, the people are so friendly and life in Hawaii seems a little more relaxed then here in California. [jessicalynmartin]

I've been in just about all of the eastern states and a couple in the Midwest and as far west as Texas. This winter I plan on taking a trip back up to New York. It's time to start saving back some money now I think. Thanks for the prompt.. I would not have thought to start saving again until the last minute... and I hate that. [OreoCookie3]

Hmmm let's see...I've been to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Florida, South Carolina, Massachuttes, New York. I think that is all. When my husband and I get a little older, we want to buy one of those big motor homes and travel. We would love to go to Arizona. [daycarepal]
Did you drive on your travels? I count them even if your only drove through, LOL I was born in Maryland, Baltimore to be exact. [tammyr]

My favorite state is being stoned,I used to like getting into a drunken state, but I stopped drinking 5 years ago. [jimbo45]
I take it you do not visit jimbo much? If you do you will learn to enjoy the state of confusion! [tammyr]

No one else has commented on this but I think it's kind of funny you mentioned Canada in this since it's a country and not a state. Which I know you know, but still I thought it was funny. Anyway. Do layovers count? I've been to Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, Maryland (I live here), West Virginia, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Colorado and if we're counting layovers, Nevada, Arizona and California. Oh and Washington D.C though that too is not a state. So let's see that's 18. 21 counting layovers. 22 if you count DC as a state though it's not obviously. I've been to only two countries besides the U.S... Australia and Canada. I really really want to go to Ireland. I'd like to go to a few other states, but some I don't find as interesting as others. [raychill]
I have live most of my life in the northern Virginia,Washington,DC area and I have never gone to Ocean City because I will not go over that bridge. No way! No how! [dfollin]

You do live in a beautiful area in a beautiful state. I have been blessed enought to be able to visit all of the continental states except four. I want to see Arizona (and the Grand Canyon), Rhode Island, and the two Dakotas. I, too, dream of getting to see Hawaii and want to take a cruise to Alaska. It think it is great your daughter wants to do this. She has lots of good time to do it. I don't know how many years I have left to get my goal accomplished, but I'm going to keep working on it! [susieq223]
Never give up I say! I would LOVE to go to Hawaii or just about any vacation island. I would be too afraid of the volcanoes to live there, but I still think I would like it for visit. Good to see you. I am not here much at all and miss seeing you around! [tammyr]

I have been to Florida, Georgia (lived there), Tennesse, Kentucky (spent the summer there), Mississippi, Louisana, Arkansas, Texas (lived there), Arizona, New Mexico, California (lived there), Alabama (living in Alabama), Hawaii, South Carolina, Maine (spent the summer there)and Okalahoma. I think that is all the states I have been too. My favorite is Alabama because that is where home is and will always be. I missed home when I was temporarily living in other states but I enjoyed living in other places. [scarlet2000]
I enjoy going to see other places too, but I couldn't stand living in Indianna were it was flat. I need my mountains to feel at home! West Virginia and western New York had some beautiful mountains. [tammyr]

So far I have only visited 2 states, New Jersey to visit someone and when I went to Pennsylvania to visit the Poconos. I was very excited about that because that was my first time getting out of state because I never had before. I might have gone to another state for a class trip but I don't remember. The second time when I went out of states was this past Sunday to New Jersey. I hope one day I will get out of the country, I want to visit Canada and probably any other country and Hawaii. [sweetangel88]

I have been to 10 states in the US and I hope to visit more. [rogue13xmen13]

it would probably be less a task to tell you where I have not been than where I have been (as far as the states go) I have not been to Alaska, Hawaii, N. Dakota, S. Carolina, Maine. (well maine if you count in-utero, I have been to) I have also been to Canada, Spain, Mexico, Panama Canal Zone (all the countries of Central America) a small part of N. Africa and Bermuda. [Modestah]
HI Friend!!! Boy you have been around! I have never left the states and will barely be in Canada when I do go! You must know a lot about geography and the differences in the cultures from many places! [tammyr]

Wow, I feel so deprived. I've only been to two places outside of Upstate New York, and that's Canada and New Jersey:( [mommy20212004]
Don't feel deprived! You are lucky to be settled and comfortable where you are! A lot of my travels come from moving around a lot in my youth. I would trade all of those states I visited for the chance to grow up in one town with lifetime friends. [tammyr]

In Australia, there are 7 states, so with that in mind, I have been to 3 in total including the place where I live at the moment. Thats almost half! But I am hoping to travel to America one day sooner or later, In fact the end of the year seems quite likely to be the time of my first visit to the states. [8ctavarium]
I hope you DO get to come to the states this year! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go to Australia! That is like my dream destination! [tammyr]

hi there! I'm taking into consideration the response you gave to jimbo so even I am not from the US, I'm responding to this post. Let me see..I've been to at least 20 provinces of our country, my goal also is to be able to set foot on al of our provinces. I'm aiming to visit southern part of our country this coming december. By the way, I am from the Philippines. [cefaz_21]
How many providences are there in the Philippines? (I am not to 'up' on geography) I hope that you get to go to the more southern ones this year and can accomplish your goal of visiting all of the provinces! [tammyr]

I am a Michigander and welcome you to our state!! Michigan is a very pretty state in fall with its tree all in color and we offer lakes all around our state. May I request that you go to the macinac bridge on your way to canada? It is a beautiful site. I have visited all but 6 states in all from the age of 8. The west coast is slowly giving in to my adventures. I have wyoming - Utah California - Washington - Pennilvania - Mexico to go and I will be done. hugs [bambi_doe]
Well welcome and enjoy yourselves. My daughter and I were very active in girlscouts when she was younger. She went on alot of trips thru them and loved everyone. hugs [bambi_doe]

Out of the 48 continental States, I have been to every one of them except Washington, Oregon and the New England States. I have good memories of most of them. I don't have a favorite State. There is something interesting in each state that I have been to. There are some I like to go back to so I can visit with friends and family as well as the state itself. [royal52gens]
I agree! Every state has something great to offer. I hope to see some of your states wonders on the way. Detroit alone will be awesome for us 'hicks' that have not seen many large cities. My DD was awestruck when we went through Cincinnati! I would love to go to where I lived in Baltimore and see what I have in my memory and what has escaped me over the years.I do not have any friends there as I was 8 when I left, but I do have family there. [tammyr]

I have been through 9 of them but have lived in 3 other states I have lived in Texas two times,Nebraska,Indiana twice and have lived in Illinois this is my third time living here my favorite state that I have been in is Wyhoming because it is so beautiful there I was at PineBluffs in Wyhoming around Easter time on Interstate 80 and on one of the bluffs along the highway they had a huge cross lit up and it was a very magnifisent site I love the smell of fresh pine also VERY BEAUTIFUL STATE [sweetaspie52]
I have been in Tennessee but not to live and it is a very beautiful state [sweetaspie52]

I am not American but i 've been to 3 different states which is Newyork, Texas, New Mexico anbd i will go and live in North Carolina for 3 years and total will be 4 . [zabawaus]
I am not far from North Carolina! Where will you be staying, what town or city? I have been to New York and Texas, but never as far west as New Mexico. [tammyr]

Let's see...I live in MA. I've lived in Louisiana where my 2 daughters were born because my husband was in the AF. I actually hated it there because of the weather and bugs. I've been to Maine and NH of course because they are nearby. I gamble in CT. I've been to RI another nearby state. I've been to Nashville of course and KY to visit friends. I have lived in CA and that was my favorite state. One of my daughters lives there and it's my favorite because the weather is always perfect...in San Diego anyway. [ctrymuziklvr]
the weather here is great. Not to cold in the winter that is! I hate the humidity, but can deal with it. I can imagine the bugs would be bad near the southern coast. I have not been lucky enough to go to the 'New England' states. I am sure they all have great thing to offer. Especially the history of the towns. Charleston,SC. was great for history lessons. [tammyr]

I'm 39 and have been to 31 states, plus DC, as well as Canada and Mexico and several Caribbean islands. I only count the states I've been in at least overnight. My parents are 69 and just visited their 50th state last spring (Oregon was their last stop). My 12 year old has been to 17 states so far. We drove to Florida this summer from Missouri, so he was able to add several to his list. I really don't have a favorite state, I enjoy a variety of experiences. For beaches, so far I like Florida best (besides the Caribbean). For museums, I liked DC and Chicago best. For mountains, I loved Colorado, but I've never been to Montana or Wyoming, so I don't have much to compare them to. I'm the only one in the family who has been west of Kansas, and I can't wait to show my husband and kids the mountains. I loved the Grand Canyon in Arizona and Zion National Park in Utah. I lived in Michigan for 6 years and it was a wonderful place. So many beautiful places to see and lots of outdoor activities available. I also like my home state of Missouri because there is so much to see and do here. St. Louis is full of free sights and activities. [jbnmom]
Well Izzy has been running loose! I am glad I found her! At least she stayed close to me and is on one of my threads. Sorry about my baby, Izzy. She must have gotten lost! She was suppose to go to a thread about her! She did go on our trip and has been to 6 new states now! that makes 8 for her! Now I got to go see if her photo went to where it was suppose to go or just here! [tammyr]

I have not been to any of them cause i don't live in USA...lols [mallick]
Where do you live? Have you been to a lot of places in your country? Won't you tell us about your travels? [tammyr]

I had to pull up a map of the US to be able to answer this. I have been to 38 states. Actually I believe it might be 41 but the 3 in question, when I could think of anything I remembered, I decided not to count them. I think it is fun that you are encouraging your daughter about this. Parents live in Tennessee, the eastern part of the state. It is very beautiful there. My favorite state would have to be Hawaii for obvious reasons. [makingpots]
I may be near your parents then! I do love it here and no matter where I go, I will always return here. I have a history here that goes back to the 1600's and I know why my family has for the most part stayed close to home! [tammyr]

I have never sat down and listed the states and then counted them. I have been all over the US. The only places I haven't been yet is the extreme N.E. Maine, New Hamshire, Rhode Island. The Other area is the N.W areas, like Montana, The Dakotas, Oregon and Washington, Utah. I haven't been to Alaska and Hawaii neither. You can actually drive to Alaska, thru Canada. I have been to Mexico and Canada. I just live a few minutes from Michigan and about an hour from Canada. You will probably be traveling thru the city I live on your way to Michigan and Canada. I have heard alot of talk abou needing a passport to enter Canada, I would suggest checking into that before embarking on your trip. Good luck with all the fund raising, it sounds like a great time. [Polly1]
You are right, you CAN drive to Alaska. Thank you for that correction! We are going through Detroit to Kingston and then to Marine City. We are going to Cundick park for our picnic. If you tell me your city I will give a big "hollar' when we get to it and maybe you will hear me! LOL I would love to go to Montana. I think the mountains there are magnificent! [tammyr]

I've been to Maryland (born), Hawaii (currently live), Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia , West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana Tennessee Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, Louisiana, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, California, Arizona, So that's 25 Drove through but didn't spend time in; Alabama, Arkansas (got a speeding ticket) [dreamy1]
Wow That is a lot. The ones I counted included drive through. Most of them I have drove through many times a couple were only one time. My grandparents took us with them on their travels when we were young and I visited many places. Some I remember well others like Hershey Pennsylvania. I can barely recall. [tammyr]

Hey if your comming to Michigan you gotta stop by and see me,I'm in Michigan. I been to 34 states Hawaii being one of them, Alaska not being one. Although I do want to see Alaska eventually. I have lived in 13 States California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Iawa, Kentucky, Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin, Missori and Michigan. I am not done moving yet! Or traveling either! [totty1969]
LOL I hate moving. I have moved 42 times. I have been at this place for about 3 years and I am waiting on 10! Never stop traveling toty! It s a learning experience that should never stop!! [tammyr]

hello, everyone,i'm form china, i'm a newcomer here... i never went to the united states... but i wish some day i have a chance, however,i really want to make friends all you u, i like here,,, [whyshell]
Welcome whyshell! I hope that one day you get to the US also! I am sure you will find something great about whereever you decide to visit! Perhaps you can tell us the places you have been to around China? [tammyr]

I had a similar goal as your daughter when I was her age, I desired to visit every state in the United States (after I immigrated), as well as every country in the world. I'm still well on my way to accomplishing this goal, with some time still ahead of me, and I've visited every state in the U.S. except Maine. I've also been to over 70 countries, and as I edge toward retirement, I plan on visiting even more! [lazywalt99]
Sounds like you aren't to lazy! I would love to be able to travel to every state! And going to another country would be so exciting! [tammyr]

How many have you been to? Which is your favorite state and why?? Well, I'm originally from New York (Long Island). I've lived in Illinois, Alaska, South Dakota, Arizona, and now I'm living in a whole different country--Italy. While in the States, we always drove to our new base of station, and so we've stopped and visited many different states and have driven through most of the states. We've visited: Florida, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Wisconsin, Montana, Tennesse, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, and Washington. We've driven from Alaska through Canada a couple of times when we lived in Alaska too. I love my native New York, especially when I would be able to get away from the hustle of downstate NY and enjoy the wilderness and beauty of the upstate areas during the fall. Fall in NY is beautiful. [JC1969]
I love the area that I have visited. Mountains, trees, small towns. So much like our area here in Tennessee. It has been a VERY long time since I was in NYC and I was to young to remember it, but I know I wouldn't like it. I prefer to be able to look up and see the sky, (and not a small square between buildings either.) I bet Italy has a lot of interesting things to see. I hope that you are getting a lot of site seeing in! [tammyr]

I have been to a total of 7 states so far. I too would love to travel the country as well as the world to see the different cultures, buildings, and way of life. It is very interesting as well to see the vegetation differences as you drive the country. I haven't been to the west coast yet. I'm not sure what state would be my favorite because ihaven't visited the ones that would be high on my list. I don't like my state of Indiana too much. It's really nothing exciting going on here. [ranitam22]
I agree that it is interesting to se all the differences even from one area of a state to another. I have stayed east of Oklahoma so far. I didn;t like Indiana to well myself because of the flat terrain. I am just use to mountains, streams, creeks and forests. I think i will stay here in Tennessee! [tammyr]

Whenever aI come to the States it is just New York at the moment I am afraid..due to my Husband's work. My Sister lives in South Carolina and I would love tovisit her..but the time faxtor is difficuly..I don't have much time to spend with Hubby after all when I am there let alone to travel around. He never can take time off when I visit hi..Shame really, would love to visit more of the U.S and I would love to go to Canada too, have friends there.. [yanjiaren]
Oh yani if you do get to go to your sisters, you must let me know! I am not to far away. perhaps we could meet!! I would love that! Where in NY do you go? NYC, or is it outside of the big apple? New York has such a varied array of areas. From big flat city areas to mountians and small towns. I love that about the state! [tammyr]

I was born, raised and rooted in South Carolina. I went to Florida with my family when I was little. I went to N.C. On my honey moon of my first marriage. I also ran away to Georgia, way back when. That was it. When I married my second hubby, His grand mother died. She lived in Washington state. So him and I boarded a plain and flew to portland Oregon. We met up with his mom and we drove to Camas Washington. I love South Carolina. I will live in South Carolina until both my parents meet up with our savior. Then I want to move to Washington State. It is so beautiful there. [bicklelady]
Hi bickelady! I am in Southeast Tn. I love this area of the US. I am a few hours from North & South Carolina as well as Ga. [tammyr]

CA, OR, TX, WI, MI, IL, MO, IN, OH, KY, TN, VA, W. VA, NC, SC, AL, GA, FL. That would be 19 for me. [GodOfTheSurf]
LoL, good one! [GodOfTheSurf]

Which part of Canada are you planning to visit ? If you will be going to the western side, take the opportunity to go to Banff National Park on the Rocky Mountains. So beautiful. Since you like the mountains and the parks, I am sure you will enjoy that ! [greenline]

I was born in Washington,DC,moved to Illinois, only till I was about 1 and a half. Therefore I do not remember Illinois. My mom said when I was about 5 months old we went to Missouri,so I don't remember that either. After that I moved to Virginia,in the Washington,DC area.Where I have live the rest of my life.As a child we visited family alot in Maryland.Went to Pennsylvania and West Virginia, which I still go to often. When I was a teenager I took a bus to visit relatives and went thru some of the states I have already mentioned plus Ohio,Indiana,Iowa,Nebraska,Colorado,Nevada and finally California. That is a total of 14 states, including Washington,DC,which is actually a city. [dfollin]

I have been to from Wisconsin to Texas and from Michigan to Puerto Rico. Florida to New York and all states in between. I think there is only 15 that I have not been to. I LOVE to travel!! [rev1wendy]

I would say probably 30, I have been to all of them on the East coast I think, except Maine. And I have been to a few on the West coast, and I have been to Hawaii, and I have been to some of the southern states. I have not been to a lot of the middle western states though. [ladym33]

i've been to Arizona visiting my sister and brother i liked it their, i wouldn't mind living there. i would love to visit Alaska, you said you going to Canada, where abouts, where i live is about one hour away from the border of Canada. i live way up north, not New York City. It's nice in Canada. This June i'm going to Portland, Oregon. I like it where there is mountains, alot of back roads, just a quiet town. i live about three and half hours from Lake Placid. from joey45 [joey45]
