Last night I watched a movie called Somewhere in Time. I suddenly had an idea. If you could go back to the ancient time, what will you bring? I wonder whether we could survive it because I had no money. Beside, it was no electricity and the labor workin should be so hard and difficult. Although I have some advanced knowledge than them, but I wonder whether I could use it.

I would bring a gun with plenty of ammo and pose as a visiting god. Anyone who questioned me would be eliminated. I would then make friends with the king, and spend the rest of my life predicting the future and putting on paper any knowledge I could remember. I could then distribute my work, and hopefully change the future for the better. If I couldn't be friends with the king, I would gain some followers and start a civil war to become king myself. Other equipment I would bring to help validate my claim as a god would include lighters, fireworks, infrared goggles or "eye of the god", a calculator with batteries, flashlights, walkie talkies for communication on the battlefield, an mp3 player, ancient warfare books, physics books, math books, chemistry books, books on how to refine iron and make a steam engine, how to make cannon, and other technology books ahead of the time I would be going to. Charging an iPod battery would not be a problem. Copper and zinc would very likely be available as well as a good supply of lemons or sea-water. With those you could make a simple battery which (with enough of them) you could charge your iPod. You would probably get burnt at the stake or stoned to death for being a witch but that's a risk you'd have to take! [owlwings]
Bring nothing but yourself. You have to learn the basic of survival when you go back to stone age. But of course that was the time when we do not have the everyday stress that we have now. they seems to be focus more on survival rather than the rat race life that we have now. If I could go back to the ancient time, I think that I would bring with me my nice digital camera and my old laptop or anything that belongs to modern gadgets. Why would I choose to bring with me these things? Because I would like to write down and take photos of what I could see the ancient people were doing. This would be the best way for me to learn more about the ancient cultures and customs of our ancestors. So when I came back to the modern society, I would be able to let my friends know how it was like with my own experience there. Hi youless! If ever I have the chance to go back to the ancient time, I would bring my cellphone. With my cellphone, I could call my loved ones in the present (if that would be possible. So, I could be able to communicate with my family and friends though we have different time line. This way, I would not feel alone. I could also turn on the music player of my cellphone, everytime I am bored. I could still listen to my favorite songs. When I feel like capturing moments, I could use my camera or video recorder of my cellphone to click those nice scenery. With my cellphone, i could do anything fun and memorable. [ace_ivann]

First of all my question is what will you bring to the future or what will you bring to the past. If I will bring something from the future to the ancient times I will choose a video camera or a digital camera so I could take photos and have them as a proof that I've been to the past. If I were to bring something from the past to the future would be the old scriptures, about Jesus Christ, his miracles and his life on earth. If I could go back in the ancient world, I guess I would go back to the Greek Era, in the time where the standards for beauty and intelligence was made..And if i could bring things with me, I guess that would be medicine and anesthetics...For it was not discovered until 1940s, thus people suffered from great pain during the past. Interesting question, I myself asked that countless of time especially when the power was cut off or talking about time machine. Hmm, perhaps I would bring things that I think will be quite useful for me to live in ancient times as well as ancient people may learn some things from it. I've been thinking of bringing some useful medicine and first aid kit, so that, they will have a new outlook on their health and medicine. Also, I might bring as well digital camera or video cam so that I can have pictures and video as a memorable and might use it for documentaries. Wow, I just love that movie, but I haven't seen it in a while. I would take pencil and paper to draw out what I see. That way I wouldn't have to worry about battery life and all that. But if you are like the movie, anything that you had that linked you to the future would immediately bring you back to that time when you saw it. So, you would have to make sure that everything you were wearing and what ever you took with you was from that time period - or it wouldn't work in the first place. [SukiSmiles]

It would depend rather on what era one went back to (and whether one could expect to return to one's own time). If I found myself stranded in Roman times, I would show them how to make paper from wood or cloth pulp and how to print using smooth, flat stones (lithography) or using engraved plates (intaglio). Many Romans were literate (not just the upper classes) and I think that those technologies were well within their understanding and capabilities. I don't know why they didn't invent them. I would also introduce them to morse code or semaphore which allows the sending of complex messages very quickly over long distances with flags or a light source. I think they may have already had some kind of signalling but am not sure if they were able to send text messages. That would be of immense use to them in communicating with the far corners of the Empire. So useful, in fact, that I wouldn't be surprised, on returning to my own time, to find that I had changed the course of history and that the whole of Europe and America spoke Latin as their native tongue and worshipped the Roman gods! When you say go back to ancient time, how ancient is ancient? Is it at a time where candles are used to light the night and Horses are the main form of transport? Or you referring to the cave man time where fire was not invented and dinosaurs roam the lands? I wouldn't want to go that far. At the most, I would like to go back say a decade or two. That would be sufficient. Reason being, looking back, I did not get to enjoy my childhood enough. I would want to do more than just sit and watch TV all the time.
