Just Wake Me Up When We Get There

I always love to travel, if there's a time. I don't own any car or automobile, so my means of transportaion would be public utility vehicles. Like buses, our local jeepneys and or just rent some car/van. If we go on far places, let's say for about 5 or 6 hours minimum, I don't get to sleep. I just love looking on the views, the sceneries and how different the place I've been to from the place where we're going to and appreciate it's beauty and serenity. This are the best thing I love while travelling, compared to my friends who sleep and tells me to wake them when we're already on the place where we planned to stay at.. I think my not sleeping would help at times, since we never know what could happen during these times. So, do you guys sleep when travelling on roads and have a very long time to get to your destination? Please share, thanks and good day to all..

I really love to travel. I can get really comfortable on a train, looking out of the window of the passing scenery by day. At night time I can sleep in a bunk in a sleeping compartment. If not train is available I will choose to travel by bus. I like short bus journeys where there is superb scenery out of the window but sitting up in the seat all night I find uncomfortable. Once I was on a bus in Australia one day and all the Luggage fell out on to the road. One person was awake told the driver and he had to go back to get all the luggage back. I slept in a car going on a long journey and we arrived in the middle of the night. I wish you happy traveling. [maximax8]
That's a really fun experience, I wish that I could travel around the world like you. I haven't used train yet as means of travelling, that I would hope to feel the thrill as well. I guess it's just my habit of not sleeping when going to places, I believe the longest time I didn't slept was at about seven or eight hours via a bus ride!;) [raijin]

I try not to sleep when I travel, especially when the trip is less than 3 hours. Unfortunately, I also get overpowered by sleep if I don't get enough rest before the travel. It depends on what I do prior to the trip I travel. If I've rested myself for a considerable time, I would be up and about until my destination. I have a lot of stamina. I should check and see what the FBI entry process is like. Like you, I like to watch to see the scenario outside the vehicle and I also like the idea of looking into each town we pass by and compare the similarities and the differences from each other. I try not to go to sleep when I travel alone because it scares me if the drivers (especially taxi drivers) will be taking me to a longer road or not. I prefer to know what's going on outside and being aware of where I'm headed to, this way, I remember the twist and turns that we've taken during the trip. [fortunebee]
I guess it's the anticipation that gets in the way, my adrenaline starts to pump as I get anxious to reach our point of destination. Rest or with incomplete sleep, I still have a hard time sleeping while travelling. Not to mention those pickpokets that hides within other passengers, as well as those irresponsible and opportunistic drivers that'll do everything to earn more from you.. [raijin]

I have not travelled in a long long time. But no I do not sleep. I am a very nervous passenger and find it impossible to sleep. It's bad enough at home where I need obstructive sleep Apnea treatment! If travelling at night I may dose off for a few minutes, but I cannot sleep. [Goodie123]
Well that explains it, I know that I can take some time to close or rest my eyes for a while but I don't fall for it for a long time!;) [raijin]

Sometimes I do, but often I stay awake to make sure my husband stays awake. If I was traveling today I would probably fall asleep as I did not sleep well last night. The usual trip we make is about 3.5 hours and is to the same place always. [GardenGerty]
That's a long trip, I'm sure you're used to it and was very familiar of the place already!;) [raijin]

I always fall asleep when we travel a long distance in car. I was like that when was young and I'M still like that. I try not too sleep too much because it will be boring for my boyfriend lol. But when he see that I'M too tired he,s the one asling me to close my eyes. mOst of the time I will only sleep 1h and be alright for a while :) [beyonce03]
Yes, atleast you're travelling with your special someone and that alone is very sweet!;) [raijin]

of course i like travelling ! bt if the trip is too long ( 10 hours !) of course i have to take a nap ! but that don't make me forget to see the beauty of pics by the window ! [4000pm]
I hope that you do enjoy travelling, seeing places and going to places are one of my favorites.. [raijin]

even if its only a 1-hr drive, I would still get some sleep raijin. ^__^;; seldom do I stay awake while traveling. most of the times, I tend to get sleepy and fall asleep. I think the times that I stayed awake were during hot weather when I would sweat too much and feel uncomfortable. and when traveling in a new place, I would sleep like a chicken. LOL I would be torn by excitement and sleepiness. ^__^;; so raijin, just wake me up when we get there. ^__^ [secretbear]
eh.. i'm not good at memorizing landmarks and places, unless i go there everywhere or on a regular basis. ^__^;; that's why i'm afraid to get lost in a new place coz i wouldn't know how to trace the way back. [secretbear]

I love to take road trips. I like to drive while on them. My husband usually sleeps cuz of course he isnt driving. But if he was driving and i was riding passenger seat i dont think i would sleep. i like seeing what is around me. [myworkid1987]
Well road tripping here or crossing-counties are still hard, we have major traffic problems and the best way to elude them is going to provinces. I am fond of travelling, as I also want to see places and learn from it even by just glazing upon them!;) [raijin]

Nope, haha,i never sleep because i get car sick when i try to and if i get in the back seat its even worse. The only one who does sleep ALOT and always, even if its an hour ride is our daughter. The peace!!!She either sleeps on the way to go or on the way to come back or both.Longs trips she sleeps most of the way maybe waking up to go use the bathroom somewhere, eating or a break and then falls back to sleep, waking up when we get to our destination and saying "were already here!?". Peanutjar :-) [peanutjar]
I think Children do reserve their energy during these times, especially when they know they'll be off for a vacation or out-of-town trips and even if you just go to the mall. Good thing you never sleep on trips, so you can take care of your "angel" and atleast your having car sickness helped in some way..=) I need to look into some premarital counseling and classes to make sure we start off on the right foot. [raijin]

When I am not familiar with the place, I see to it that I get to observe the place, and the surrounding areas it has – regardless if I travel in a public utility or private. But when I am a bit familiar with the place, I tend to take a nap already, and just wake up when I am there. :) [tryxiness]
i guess it would really be boring if you keep on seeing the views that you've already watched many times already, but there are sometimes actions that occur on roads. Like accidents or any type of incidents that you'd rarely see, that's what I'm sometimes looking for.. [raijin]

Considering I am usually the driver,I better not be the sleeper.lol If we are travelling anywhere,I tell everyone to stay awake. It is not fair that I have to stay awake and they get to sleep. That way I have someone to talk to and they do not miss anything. I have travelled a lot more than most of my friends so I know where I am going and I know what they should not miss seeing. We stop a lot to see cool stuff. Shalom~Adoniah [Adoniah]
I grew up in Florida, when there were still a lot of empty spaces. The local people named a lot of their own streets and as the towns grew they kept the names even if they were a little odd. In a place about 40 miles from here is a street called: Justamereroad. We have a lot of that and it is fun to be able to point things like that out as we are traveling. I know were a lot of those things are and I know the history of most of Florida. I also make sure to check the prices on Florida baseball tix so I don't miss a local game. [Adoniah]

Ever since I was a kid,I just love to travel, and I am always too excited to sleep while travelling.....While travelling in public transportations like buses (one bus route uses used school buses for public transporation) trains, I love to have a window seat and like to watch all the places we are passing, and take in all the beauty, and also to know the name of places we are passing..... While travelling by car, however I am very alert and always like to guide the driver(usually my husband) about any happenings and traffic regulations, and discuss things with him.....It saves the person driving from monotony and keeps him more alert, especially while going long distances...... I can never imagine how some people just start snoring the moment they set off on a journey.....Do they not realize that they are missing out on all the fun while travelling?........... [mithrarao]
Definitely, the FUN they miss are the most enjoyable ones even before they arrive on their point of destination. That's good of you, keeping hubby alert by talking to him and keeping awake does help. Sometimes, you have to each to keep the journey more bearable!;) [raijin]

I tend to stay up too and keep whoever is driving awake by talking with them and sorts LOL I'm not sure what it is but i can never sleep when we drive to far destinations. [maddysmommy]
Yes, there seems to be somthing that keeps us awake no matter how long or short our trip would be. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who does that, happy tripping my friend!;) [raijin]

I don't sleep if we are driving somewhere as a family. But if it's an overnight ride in a bus, I usually sleep. I can't make out the scenery in the night anyways. But I don't sleep if my husband is driving ...even at night...I keep him company and we sing songs! [SViswan]
My dad always told us not to sleep when we were in the front seat. He said the driver might be tempted to fall asleep too. So, we took turns keeping the driver company on overnight journeys. But my husband and I enjoy singing...so we just took it as an opportunity to sing. It's been ages since we've driven out anywhere (its difficult with the kids..though if you look at it another way, it's easier than taking a bus)...and there's hardly been any singing in the car. [SViswan]

I do a little of both- eg. napping and sightseeing. I haven't travelled much lately but in years gone by I used to love to take trains. I got to see a lot of the country that way and the club cars at night were often more fun than the destination. (I've been thinking of taking a li train to Charleston, South Carolina next spring for a little mini-vacation.) [irisheyes]
Train is the one that I haven't tried yet, mostly it's bus or other vehicles that's available for us. I could take some nap, but not for a long time for the thought of missing something along the way. Heavy traffic could be one good reason for me, we have that here and it is so FRUSTRATING!;) [raijin]

I love to travel at nights specially when it is a long drive, I preferred at night coz I avoid to much traffic and I can relax or sleep, and I have no choice but to sleep coz it's very dark outside. But when I travelled at daytime I do enjoy looking at the window specially when going to the province it is very nice to see some trees and animals in the field. [lynboobsy11]
Yes, it's like learning from the streets.. [raijin]

I think it depends on how tired I am, while I love to look around and watch for things to take pictures of sometimes the fact that I don't sleep well at nights, and stay up at nights to mylot or read or watch tv, takes its toll on me and the movement of the car will just put me to sleep no matter how hard I try to stay awake. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]
That problem could also be the reason why I can't simply sleep even if I'm tired, I don't have regular time when going to bed. There are times and moments where I feel sleepy, but my senses are still awake and that keeps my mind from getting busy looking and gazing on landmarks or new places I go to.. [raijin]

Im the kinda person cannot sleep in long travel, i already try to sleep but stil the noise of car or airplane will be hear. i never feel tired even , same us you i love to see what is going on outside the view & so on.when i reach the place that time i will sleep but not in the travel time. i know lot of people love to sleep when they are in travel i feel it not excited when you fall asleep. [Ohara_1983]
That's great, I guess we have the same reasons for travelling.. Fun and Excitement, no sleep!;) [raijin]

I also don't like car or automobile, I like to take a walk or cycle. I cannot sleep as excitement when I travel by bus or train. But I often sleep when the travel is a very long way. [nanguofong]
I hope you do enjoy your travel, may it be walking or through riding motorcycles!;) [raijin]

My family love to go to places for outings and vacations. When we travel I usually sleep because I often feel sleepy when riding a car. Since my hubby is the one driving i feel safe and secure to sleep. But if its a public transport like a bus I like to look at the scenery and stay awake in case something happens. [sutan74]
You have a very valid reason, safe travelling and thanks!;) [raijin]

I tend to sleep on the paratransit (a van service that disabled people take), long over the road buses (I usually look out the window or read for the first 90 or so minutes, but then I'll get sleepy). Cars, especially, make me sleepy. I think because I'm trapped there, unable to move without my wheelchair (I can get out, but it's a pain), so I sleep or read to avoid boredom. [cripfemme]
Reading is also one good way to get away from boredom, but I only get to do that some time. I get to feel dizzy when reading and riding, especially when you drive by rough roads.. [raijin]

you're right, it's lovely to enjoy the journey. not just as a means to an end, but an end in itself. you will love travelling in new zealand in that case. it takes quite a few hours to get from one town to another, perhaps 5-6 hours or even 9-10 hours. but every few hours the scenary changes. so what i did on the coach was to enjoy the scenary and then drift in and out of sleep. because travelling can be tiring as well! [squaretile]
I wish I could go there, as I would really love to go and visit such places. However, I if travelling takes almost a day then I would definitely drift out but for just a few minutes then get back again to my favorite part of travelling which is sight-seeing!;) [raijin]

If I am very tired and sleepy (which is very rare) then you'll find my head swaying up side down LOL. Most of the time I travel enjoying the beauty of the place. I also find travelling as interesting one. [jhoana_joey]
It's really fun, as long as you know how to make your travelling enjoyable!;) [raijin]

When I was younger I use to fall asleep as soon as the traveling journey began and was lucky if I was awake by the time we reached our destination. Now, I travel by train mostly when I have to travel any distance and I can not fall asleep or not for more then a few minutes. I love to look out the window for the scenery. [razcal2267]
The only opportunity to travel by train is whenever I use MRT's, I have never used trains while traveling long distances. I wish I could, someday soon.. ;p [raijin]

if we travel by car, most of the time I will doze off, especially if I'm at the back seat. If I don't sleep I like to look at the view outside too. I'm very bad with roads and directions so I don't really drive that much. I prefer to be the passenger rather than the driver hehe. [kevsgirlalways]
I think I can be a good driver, since I don't feel sleepy even if I'm just a passenger!;) I guess it's really been a part of me, that I don't sleep even when traveling for long hours, day or night.. [raijin]

Hi , thanks for this nice posting. I usually travel by train or bus. If it is a long over night journey I prefer to sleep. In train it is easy, the conductor may awake you when your station comes, but in bus you have to get up every now or then, but yes still then it is like rest. DR.B.SARAF Ph.D. [bhubaneshwar]
Yes, I guess that's one good reason to take a rest while traveling. Thanks for dropping, goodluck and always have a safe journey!;) [raijin]

I wondered how they loved to travelled whenthey only like to sleep in the bus or any community public vehicles they surely missed the beauty in it...... [cherylal]
Yes, that's what I've been wondering as well.. [raijin]

Hello dear raijin. I love to travel as well, but many times when I travel by train for a long-distance travel, I would fall asleep. It is the same for me when I travel in a bus. I think that it could be the reason of the fast moving of the bus, car, and train that makes me fall asleep. I still remember that there were a couple of times when the bus had already reached the final destination and I was still sleeping. But when I am traveling on a plane, I would like to keep myself awake if I happen to sit next to the window because I would love to see the beautiful scene outside in the beautiful sky to take photos and watch the scene of the floating clouds. Thanks so much for your discussion, my dear raijin. [williamjisir]
Yes, thanks to your response as well. I only get to ride a plane twice, I was lucky since the two Tickets I had was actually on the window side. I like the looks from above, it's truly a wonderful view!;) [raijin]
