My partner and I have just got back from a weekend in the Snowdonia National Park. We went camping for the weekend so my partner could do his*mountain goat* impersonation up Snowdon and the surrounding mountains in Wales here in the UK. I had never been to Wales or Snowdon so I was thrilled to see how wonderful the area was and the mountains and valleys. Up to now I have always been a beach and sea person but the weekend has made me think again. I have posted a picture taken over the weekend, even in the rain and mist the mountain looks wonderful.
So which do you prefer? The mountains and lakes or the beach and the sea?

responses and comments:
i like the mountains and the lakes more than the beaches and the seas.. well may be because i like the fresh water a lot.but still the mountains and the valleys and the lakes give me a lot of peace and refresh .. it may also be due to the fact that i live near the seas and long to go to the mountains. [praveenjena]
That is a very tough question, because I love both. I live amongst the mountains in Northwest Virginia. There aren't a whole lot of lakes where I live, but there are some just a few miles away. I live at the foot of the Massunutten Mountain. I absolutely love hiking and fishing and swimming in the river. I also love the beach. We go to Myrtle Beach South Carolina almost every year. My aunt has a beach house down there. I absolutely love going to the beach. I really enjoy riding the waves and eating the seafood. There are so many attractions and things are almost always fun. As much as i love the ocean and beach, I could not live any where else but amongst the mountains. Both have aspects that I like alot. [huppsterdave5125]
I actually prefer the desert most of the year. I love that you can see for miles and it's very dry. I was going to say that there's no bugs, but there are, especially after the rains. And, in the summer, there are bees around every place that has water. But, generally, I think it's great. I like the mountains in the summer with the summer thunderstorms and it's cooler. Sometimes, I will camp or stay at the higher elevations of the desert in the summer where it's around 20 or so degrees cooler. You still get that desert environment, but you don't get all the heat. I prefer the mountains anytime pal , I live in central Scotland and they are all around us , it is just so lovely here , I could never dream of living anywhere else xx [weemam]
been in that area often pal ( Fort William) xx [weemam]
I love the Beach to but I would like to see Mountains but not climb them lol I am glad that you had a lovely time I was only ever once to Wales but it was work lol [gabs8513]
My first visit to Wales and it won't be the last. I'm no mountain goat but they look wonderful. [recycledgoth]
Hi Goth..well Snowdonia is very beautiful...though when the mist is down its quite eeerie...but im glad that you enjoyed your weekend. The last time i was down that way we were going to Bangor...an oh what a long drive it was....and so so remote...but beautiful...the Menai bridge is spectacular.Theres a little village aroun there called Betws y coed...di you go there/?..theres a house built from boulders in Betws y coe..really pretty.Pleased your partner enjoyed the mountains...ive been up Snowdon..but not for years... [ruby222]
LOL..thats brilliant!!..so glad you saw the house! [ruby222]
Ah, your question is making me think about traveling and how I love to travel! I'm not sure I can answer it because I enjoy both so much. Well, I think I like both places for different reasons actually. The mountains make me feel solitary and I can get a lot of deep thinking done there and that's always a nice feeling. I've never seen or done a mountain goat impersonation though, I must say. happy But the ocean... well, I've often called that "my beloved ocean." We're not beach people to swim or sit in the sun, but I could sit for hours (and often have!) just watching and listening to the ocean. There's as much sound in the ocean as there is quietness on a mountain. Mountain air is crisp and clear and lovely and ocean air is sultry and clear and lovely so... nope, can't do it. I can't choose one that I like better. w00t [katiedoubleu]
The mountain goat is my nickname for my partner as he climbs mountains, unlike me who simply can't. I feel torn between both now, having visited the mountains. [recycledgoth]
I love it all, I love the mountains, the deserts, the ocean. I am not picky, I'm pretty happy where ever I am. [ElicBxn]
I adore tropical islands with white sand, blue water and a coral reef for good snorkeling. However I like to see native wildlife, meet the local people, have some adventure and go off exploring a bit along coastal tracks and up hills to appreciate the glorious view. I find mountains breathtaking and I like the challenge of climbing them. I like bathing in cool waterfalls and dipping my toes into cold lakes. When I was working in Finland I liked to have a sauna then jump in the lake. It was wonderful to bathe in the lake in Indonesia, getting a view of the pretty very steep roofed houses. I had to wash in river there too and that quite refreshing. I went to university in North Wales and often used to go to Mount Snowdon and think that the landscape in that are is stunning. Even in poor weather mountains can look amazing all covered in mist like the one I went up in Norway. I am glad that you and your partner had a lovely weekend camping in the wonderful Snowdonia National Park. [maximax8]
Hello recycledgoth. In fact, I like all of those places listed above. It is hard for me to choose one though. Maybe to live by the lake is a good choice. I would like to have a nice cottage next to the lake and go fishing or taking a walk around the lake in my spare time... [williamjisir]
It's gonna be a hard choice to me because i like both. If i have to make a decision this time i'll choose mountains and lakes, now i would like explain why i choose mountains and lakes. This time of the year is the best time to visit places like mountains and lakes(only to me),, when it's summer time or winter time i won't go there because it'll be extremely hot or cold. It's great for us to go the beaches and sea in the summer because you can relax and have a cool vacation. That's why i choose beaches and sea. Have a nice day and enjoy your stay in mountains and lakes! :-) [kianli]
The creations of our god is very beautifull. I like beaches i can relax over there Normally during weekend many of them go to beaches. Playing with water gives a different experience. i can never forget it. [febinsoft]
I prefer the mountains. I grew up in the Rockies. I have been to the beach, and even though it is beautiful, I still prefer the mountains. [shymurl]
I'm a definite mountain babe lol. Don't get me wrong, I love the ocean and the beach too, and here in Vancouver, I'm spoiled for choice because we have both. However, there is an aura and a magic about the mountains that just draws me to them. It's so exciting to be above the clouds, and looking down to see a carpet of fluffy white cloud below you whilst the sun is shining brightly down, and there is a real sense of achievement I get from working my way to the peak of the mountain and knowing I did a job well done. Okay, I'll stop rambling now lol ... [angelwhispers30]
It was the first time I had actually spent much time in the area and I have to say I was blown away by the scenery and the views. Driving up Llanberis Pass was quite an experience too, driving through the mist and low cloud was wierd. [recycledgoth]
We have a cottage in the mountains. It is beautifulup there. Still I prefere the sea. I love to swim. The lakes are too cold for me. I also think the sea gives me a calm that I never find in the mountains. [teison2]
I'm definitely a beaches and sea person. I'm a Pisces which are fish. I just have always loved the water and calmness of laying on a beach and hearing the waves. It's just so beautiful. I've been to the mountains too, but it's far too cold for me. They are very beautiful though. I have many pictures from a trip to Colorado. [reene0225]
I still like the beach and the sea but I loved the scenery over the weekend [recycledgoth]
i think i would prefer the beaches, i do like to play on the beach, jump ionto the salty water and swim, mountains are quite stressful and one need to be careful while climbing them, lakes are quite dangerous because they are stangnant, most lakes are polluted, i always prefer the beaches [delaks44]
I prefer mountains and lakes over beaches and sea. I really don't like the sun that's why when I'm at the beach, I usually swim at night. So, Lakes can get covered by the trees that grow on the mountains so I can swim even when there's sun. And I also like freshwater better than salt water cause saltwater hurts my eyes. [vianneyanzu]
I love lakes but I am not sure about the mountains as I am afraid of heights. As long as I can stand on the ground and admire the lakes and mountains around me, then I prefer that scenery to beaches and sea. A beach is fun for a while but one soon gets bored with it, then there is all that sand that gets everywhere! :o) So, mountains and lakes for me. I love the serenity and the sheer beauty of them. [MsCYPRAH]
I prefer lakes and mountains. I am a nature lover and I prefer the nature trips and those in provinces and remote areas. Hiking is also what I like doing. Nature gives you such a different kind of comfort that noone can give you. [nengs10]
My partner is a keen hiker and climber so he would pick the mountains every time [recycledgoth]
i would prefer mountains first.... [debu1456]
Both! To me its comparing apples and oranges. I love them both. The mountains and mountain air are majestic and the sea air and crashing waves remind me of my vulnerability. They are both wonderful atmospheres to clear your mind, recharge, refresh and start again. I find them both energizing and fun. I'd love to see the mountains in your area. I've heard they are beautiful! [di1159]
I would love to visit where you took that picture. It looks and sounds beautiful. I've never been big on the beach or the sea. I love the mountains with rivers and lakes with them. To me they just always seemed so serene and welcoming where as the beach and sea seemed turbulent and wild. I would love to live in the mountains or at least the foot hills of them. Instead I live in Florida near a beach sad. I don't like it one bit but moving to another state isn't going to be happening any time soon that is for sure. I guess for now I'll just have to keep on dreaming, which thankfully is free to do lol [emeraldisle]
You're quite welcome and I can imagine you were. I know if I was in a similar type of area I'd have taken a bunch as well. Nature does offer us some incredible images to view. [emeraldisle]
Fantatic photo full of atmosphere honey! I have never been to Wales or Snowdon but I go to the highlands of Scotland every year on holiday and I do love the mountains nowadays though I can barely walk along the street never mind up a mountain! I love the beach and sea too (as long as I keep away from seaweed and there are no dead fishes about) so I guess I am split! Both have their own qualities and individual beauty. xxx [mummymo]
Thanks for the br honey! xxx [mummymo]
I prefer to go to the mountains or even better forested areas with pine trees. I like the fresh air of the mountains. The oceans are okay too but I like the forests better. [whiteheron]
I prefer all you said.I like mountains lakes and beaches. We had went to a mountain near here two times. It takes a full day to complete. It is not easy but it is very intersting. I want to say that i can enjoy the place with out all that you said. Thanks [naseefu]
I would think I prefer mountains and lakes for their serenity. However, I would rather go to the beaches and sea as it is safer as there are more company. Mountains and lakes gives me the creepy lonely feeling. [whyaskq]
LOL I must admit the mountains are very quiet and serene while the beaches are usually more crowded and loud. [recycledgoth]
Beaches and sea! Beaches and sea ! LOL But I also really enjoy a nice hike up a mountain and the beauty I can find there. I would love to be able to combine both, that would be just wonderful. But I really need the smell of sand and salt water, the walking in the wet sand with the waves crashing at my feet, the... you get the idea :):) [arkaf61]
Funny you mention mountain goat. I am a Capricorn and I was born in the Chinese year of the goat so of course I love, love the mountains. [sarahruthbeth22]
LOL - thanks for the comment on the photograph hun. I call my partner the mountain goat as he is so keen on the mountains. I am still a bit torn between the two though, and quite fancy spending a little time on the beach. [recycledgoth]
I like the mountains and the ocean, which makes living in Seattle just perfect for me. I'm really only happy when I'm living near large bodies of water, because they are very calming to me. The mountains, though, take my breath away! :) [scarywhitegirl]
Tranquil misty mountains, bird song and cool breezes off the lake or the sound of gulls as waves wash up gently on the shore. Hiking along mountain trails or beachcoming in the sun. I'll take both, any where, any time. So long as I have it to myself, me and a special friend. [MsTickle]
I am much more drawn to mountains and streams than I am to beaches and seascapes. I feel so much more alive when hiking in the mountains or listening to a bubbling brook in the woods... the solitude is heavenly. [Modestah]
The peace and quiet was lovely, it was good just listening to birdsong even though the weather wasn't that great. [recycledgoth]
I love both and since I live in Calgary, Alberta I get both. I live only an hour away from the mountains in BC so we go for a drive to them often. I also have the best of both worlds since I also live near a few lakes and I go camping and fishing quite a bit. But if I had to choose which one I like the best I would have to say I love going to the mountains more. We go for a drive quite often to the mountains, probably at least once a month. We just like to drive around in them and see all of the wild life. [chrislotz]
Mountains, for sure. I prefer inland lakes, because I am not a fan of salt water. Although oceans are pretty amazing. I'll take the mountains. I live in the foothills of the Rockies, and get to look at their majestic peaks every day. I wouldn't trade it for the world. [cassidy22]
I prefer to the beach much more. Because my husband likes swimming. Besides, my baby likes playing in the beach, I am sure. My second choice will be the lake. It must be so interesting to live by the lake. I love China [youless]
I always like to live in near in the Sea because the sounds of the wave is helping me to ease the boredom that I have......but I do enjoy Mountain Hiking but not everytime only it is very rare so I prefer to be in the Sea. [iyah10]
