I live in Europe so many countries are near the one that I live in. I have traveled by train from Ostend in Belgium to Vienna in Austria and then straight on to Budapest in Hungary. It took one night and half a day. Another long train trip that I have done was Cairns to Brisbane which was 35 hours. Distances are long in Australia. I did have to fly in order to get to Australia though.

I live in India. I live in Punjab State in India. My longest journey is of 32hours in train. Its from Amritsar(Punjab) to Dadar(Mumbai) the distance is 1700approximately. It took two days and one night. I really enjoy the journey bcoz i make new friends in train and then play cards with them. Last trip someone collected baseball cards and had all these rare Mickey Mantle baseball cards in binders. Anyway, its very different experience bcoz bath in train and brush in train haha,, really enjoyable. I seen different stations and different state bcoz many state changes through the journey. I suggest that everyone go for this type of journey it gives nice memory. I have tarveled 10times that long journey and every time i have unique experience. So do it friends.... [Amarinder]
Hi, since I live on an island you have to travel to other countries nostly by airplane. There is a ferry that goes to Sicily, we went with our car in 2006 and stayed there for 5 days. From Sicily you have to take another ferry to Italy and then from there most of Europe can be crossed by train or car. Haven't done that yet but I wish we'll do it in the future. [dolphin2406]
My longest journey was from Florida to California and back and was done in our minivan a few years ago. This is from the East Coast of the United States to the West Coast of the United States. It was about 2700 miles in each direction and took us about 4 days driving in each direction. We had to stop to stay at hotels along the way and eat too. It was with 3 small children so that was a job in itself. It was rough on my neck so I brought along one of my personal handheld massagers. surrender Really, we have done this trip via airplane and it is SO MUCH shorter and more enjoyable. Sure the airfare is expensive but we don't put wear and tear on our car, we don't have to buy gasoline, or stay at a hotel, or eat at restaurants on the way. I have traveled in the United States by car from New York to Florida a few times. The first time it took us 18 hours. From New York to New Mexico by car, it took us 2 days. I have traveled by car and train from New York to Maryland twice. I love to travel. My best trips to me is filling up the car with luggage, one of our computer tablets, some food, and hitting the road. Its just a freeing experience to me. [lelin1123]
Probably this last trip where we drove over 3,000 miles but we really didn't go a long way away. We drove to Omaha Nebraska and did a lot of driving around there. Then we went to Oklahoma to see an Aunt then over to Arkansas to see a brother-in-law and then back to Idaho. I have gone to the northern tip of Canada but don't remember how far that was. Hi max. well I went by an Italian ship from Melbourne to Tilbury, England, that took several weeks. I drove from Mwlbourne to Perth, and that took three days. I slao drove from Melbourne to Townsville and back. These would be my longest non-flight trips. They all started in my hometwwn of Melbourne. [mipen2006]
I live in Denmark and I have just returned from a trip to Lithuania and Latvia. Instead of flying my husband and I chose to go by train and bus. Flying is much faster, but going by trains and buses are less expensive, and that is why we chose that option. We went by train from Odense to Fredericia (Denmark) and from Fredericia to Hamburg in Germany. After that we went by bus from Hamburg to Berlin, from Berlin to Kaunas and from Kaunas to Vilnius in Lithuania. It took 32 hours to get to our destination, we saved a lot of money and we also got the chance to see some of Germany and some of Poland, but it was quite hard and we didn't sleep much on the bus. I would like to visit the baltic countries again one day, but next time I hope to go by car instead of trains and buses happy [Porcospino]
When I was younger we went on a family holiday to Spain, I live in the UK, and my parents decided they wanted to drive there. Of course this felt really long and boring for my sister and I but now I can appreciate why my parents would have enjoyed it. You can take more luggage that way too, and it is more personal and less stressful than flying, it may take longer but it is all part of the holiday. I think it would have taken over 2 days, maybe I am wrong and it just felt long because I was young. We went on a ferry to Spain once too, which I think was 36 hours, I got very sea sick on this occasion so I didn't particularly enjoy it. I am in the U.S. I have traveled from west Texas to northern California and from west Texas to Salt Lake City Utah, both of these trips took the same amount of time:27 hours. Recently we went in the other direction and went to Washington D.C., it was a little farther to go but since we did not make it in one straight drive I cannot give you the exact hours. Back when I lived in Europe (Denmark) the longest trip I'd been on was a car trip from Copenhagen to Malaga, in the south of Spain-- that was about 2500km. I now live in the US; my longest trip here (also by car) has been driving (several times) between Austin, Texas and Portland, Oregon, which is about 1700 miles (or roughly 2750km. From ST Louis, Mo, to Boston, for one wedding, to main for another, then we were in New York City for the worlds fair. (that was 1963, I think.) Spent a week, then another wedding in New Jersey, on a Friday evening and another in Pittsburgh 2 days latter. That is where the car's engine blew up. The sound that an engine makes blowing up is loud, and still scares me every time. I had come to the conclusion that wedding cake tastes different each time. lol. [General_Spacey]
I live in Spain, but still return to England a couple of times a year. We have a motorhome, and last year we drove from the Costa Blanca, along the coast of Spain, then up through the middle of France to Cherbourg, meeting with friends in motorhomes on the way. The journey was about 1400 miles, which we spread over 5 or 6 days. In September, we're travelling from England to Munich for the Oktoberfest, again in the motorhome, then we'll carry on to the Costa Blanca, a total journey of about 2,500 miles. We'll spread the travelling and staying over about 3 weeks. Modern motorhomes just eat up the miles, and you can make a comfort stop whenever you need to. It's a great way to travel. [Sandra1952]

well,i travelled locally in india once for 30 hrs in the train. it is quite a difficult thing to do.in the onward journey, i did not even carry any book and it was very difficult to kill time. however, in the return journey, i got myself a good book and it helped me get through the journey. When i was in college, we had a trip to Ilocos Norte, which is a province here in the Philippines. It took 10 hours for us to get there by bus. It's very tiring even though we were just sitting but the long trip was worth it. The place is very beautiful and really relaxing. We stayed at a very nice 5 star hotel for 3days and the foods were very delicious and tasty that you will really ask for more. I miss that day and i hope i can go there again with my family for a vacation. [check23]
the furthest i have travelled was on a coach from milton keynes to plymouth. it took an hour to get to heathrow, then we had a 50 minute wait, then it took 6 hours to get from heathrow to plymouth. it was quite tiring!!! [xsammiex]
i travelled from UK to germany via ferry and train and it was the worst journey i ever had, it took 2 and a half days to get there and i didnt even like it when i got there, i hadn't slept and my eyes were going blind because of the lask of sleep, it was awful, i found the people very hostile and unfriendly, the weather was awful and the place seemed so dull and boring it definitely was a wasted journey, i had to suffer 2 weeks there because my ex husband wanted to see his brother, and when we got there all his brother and his wife did was argue....never again. well, I live in the center of the country (the U.S.) and I've been on trips with my parents that took us from Austin (our home) to New Jersey and back - and after checking in 2007, turned out to be around 1500 miles. I've also been from Victoria B.C. to Austin (with stays in Pasco WA and Durango CO.) I think the NJ trip was probably the longest, but we did some stopping on the way to see things too, can't do that kind of trip straight through with little kids. Heck, we stopped on the other trip too. These were all car rides. I can't say I drove up to Victoria B.C. all the way, because I flew from Austin to Durango to meet my mom in the first place, but then we drove up to Yellow Stone and toured the park for a day before continuing. My longest train was an unexpected one. I was on my Honeymoon trip to Puri. The journey was expected to last 30 hours by train. The journey went on smoothly. However, on the State Border of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, just before Orissa., the train stopped. It didn't budge for 6 hours. No one seemed to know what happened. The Train had stopped on a non-descript station without any food and even Water!! and most importantly without even a single person on the Railway Platform. To my bad luck, in the coach I was travelling, expect for my wife and myself, there was no one!!! Just imagine the situation, on your first trip with your wife, to a new unknown place, struck in a non-descript station, with not a soul to explain the situation, what do you expect to do........ Thankfully, to my pleasant surprise, the Train Driver himself came towards my coach and I asked him as to what happened. He explained, that due to some political problem, there is a Bundh in Orissa and the train will not go further to avoid Trouble. Again, thankfully, I had some ready to eat products with me and myself and my wife muched them. With no one in Coach, we should have in normal circumstances should have had a Great time, but the situation we were in, and the hot summer weather did not make things quite well. Ultimately, after 6-7 hours, the train started moving, albiet slowly. Timewise, I have been on longer journeys, but because of the Mental fatigue I went through, this Journey seemed and even now seems, the longest journey I have made. [goodfundadvisor]
I live in the US, and I drove from Alaska to Utah. I took us 5 days, as we were in the northern part of Alaska, and drove through Canada, dropped into Washington and then made our way to Utah. It was such a long drive, but we had so much fun. I drove in my car, and did not need a bus, ferry, train, or airplane. A few years back when I was with an ex, I went with her family on holiday to Italy. We left the UK at about 4 in the morning and drove to a small town near Venice, reaching there about 8 oclock at night. I was actually asleep for the part of the journey which went through France and as that is the only time I have been in France I can't remember a thing of it, lol. In our India , we have all big train routes. I have travelled no. of times in these routes. from Ahmedabad to Chennai it takes 36 hours in train. 48 hours in reaching varanasi. I once travelled from Jammu(India) to Kanyakumari by train, which is located on the southern tip of India. The train journey was long and was scheduled to take 72 hours to finish. But unfortunately, there were 2 major accidents on the way, which delayed the train's arrrival in Kanyakumari by 26 hours. SO the total time that i was travelling in that train to Kanyakumati was nearly 100 hours.
