What Kind Of Public Transportation Do You Usually Take When Travelling

That is, travelling just for either a short distance or a long distance. In our country, there are many public transportations: Bus, taxi, van for hire, motorcab or tricycle, jeepney ( a unique Filipino public transport), pedicab (pedalled by the driver) and many more. Personally, for short distance travel, I prefer to either drive on my own or just ride a jeepney. Riding a jeepney is the most convenient actually for me as I won't have any hassle looking for a parking area. What do you usually ride when travelling?

I don't travel far. so if i go out of my city, i usually take a long distance coach, the price may be 4 times than that of a train ticket, but it sets off very often and comfortable. and i do taxi to another city, but normally back to my city, i share a cab with other 2 passengers, it saves a lot and very fast, even faster than i drive myself. [tudors]
I like that kind of public transportation. It's not available in our place. have a safe travel always. Thanks for the nice response. [dorisday1971]

I don't have my own wheels so I always use public transportation vehicles. Since I am here in Philippines, the most common that people use for public transportation is the jeepney (only in the Philippines.) It is more convenient to use because there is no need to worry with the parking area just like what you said. The second most common vehicle I use is bus because mostly in national highways they outnumber the jeepneys and other like taxis. Anyway whatever vehicle I use I just always pray to be comfortable and safe to where I am going. [Yori88]
Mga Kababayan! let's all be proud of our Jeepney. it's only in the Philippines can we see this. I love taking the jeep because it's a lot cheaper compared to the price of gasoline for my car. [dorisday1971]

Hi...We are both in the same country. In going to my work, I have 3 short rides, i.e. the tricycle then bus or van for hire and then jeepney. When I go to home province or other province or city and not using our own car, I take bus. In going to a far place or other country I take airplane. The airplane is the fastest transportation to reach a destination. [joyce959]
Hello Joyce. When I was still working in the Queen City of the South, I used to have three short rides too and it was quite a hassle for me. There were times when I get late reporting for work as I had difficulty taking a tricycle. But now that I'm back in the province, it's a lot easier to take a ride. [dorisday1971]

hello, dorisday. just like you, i usually take the jeepney. i only take the bus when jeepneys are not that easy to find in some areas. the trains becomes an alternative when the travel will be along those very busy streets. taking the bus or the jeepney will only cost me many hours of travel when in fact, it should only be some minutes by train. meaning, i always keep my options depending upon the area where i am at. however, in most cases, it is the jeepney for me or, the taxi when the days are much too hot for the usual jeepney rides. [trinidadvelasco]
The jeepney is the most accessible type of transportation in our country. I love also riding the MRT because it's so much faster than any other mode of transportation available. [dorisday1971]

well i usualy take up car as an option!!when i go out with my family on outting!!like hill stations and stuff because traveling by private car is better than being in a bus where we have to travel according to them!!we can stop wherever we want and eat out at any place we want!with bus we dont have so much options!!so i prefe car!! [punk_gal]
It is certainly best to bring our own cars when going on a trip with the family because we can stop anytime we want, we can travel at our own speed and convenient time and we can get a better view at the nature. It's great and fun to travel with our family and friends using our own vehicle. [dorisday1971]

Dorisday, I have a t-shirt that my son bought me while he was on a mission trip two summers ago in the Philippines with a photograph of a jeepney on it! Most people here in the United States don't know what they are, and I have to explain it to them! IF it's the whole family going, we usually drive long distances. Work and school, we also drive our cars. There are buses here in my city, and taxicabs but the buses aren't always safe and the cabs are very expensive. I love to travel to other cities where they have subways and EL trains. It's fun to get on and go all over the cities. [carpenter5]
Most cities just don't have an adequate public transportation system here in this country. Many of the larger ones do, like Atlanta, New York, LA and San Francisco. Dallas has a decent one, but they still have a horrible traffic problem. I can't imagine what it would be like if they didn't have the commuter trains! [carpenter5]

Even though I have my own set of wheels, I prefer to use the public transportation vehicle. The roads are just too chaotic. It seems like everyone wants to use the road at the same time. This leads to too much stress and tension while driving on the rads here and I am always afraid that some accident might occur due to the aggressive driving behavior of many driver. Therefore, I prefer to use the public transportation like the taxi, buses, auto rickshaws, rick shaws(pulled by the driver. In these cases there is no hassle in looking for parking spaces near offices or malls. Plus I am not responsible for the vehicle. [nick1in]
I am not familiar with rick shaws and it is not available in our country. Isn't it the same with the public transport in India wherein the driver is at the front pulling or pedalling that cab? Getting a parking space is also a problem for me and that's the reason why I hate driving all by myself. [dorisday1971]

I usually use the PAt bus system if I am going somewhere like down town or so so I dont have to pay to park in town it is expensive. other wise I drive I never been on a plane or a train. I use trolly and Incline services also [emilie2300]
Thank you. I hope you have a nice day as well [emilie2300]

I drive everywhere when I am in town. I won't ride in a cab anywhere. Talk about risky! I have done this in the past and wanted to hide under the front seat until we got to our destination. The last time I visited our daughter in Arizona, I took a shuttle to her little town from the airport. It was about a 2 hour drive and was nice. I also took a shuttle to a friend's house from the airport in Sacramento to her little town. That was also a good experience. Would be nice if we had transportation here other than a cab, bus or metrolink which is an above ground rail system. I learned something from this discussion. Never heard of a jeepney. [carolbee]
Jeepney is uniquely found in the Philippines. I believe Papua New Guinea also have jeepneys now but they imported it from the Philippines. Riding the jeepney is fun because that's where you meet all kinds of people. Happy mylotting. [dorisday1971]

We don't have much available to us, we drive our own car. We can take a train but only to limited places or a plane if we could afford it. But in the West there are not many options for public transportation [savypat]
We are so lucky to get many options on what kind of public transportation we can ride if we don't want to drive our own car. I understand that in your country you only have few options and it's usually a cab which is pretty expensive. Happy mylotting. [dorisday1971]

I prefer to drive, and if I stay within New Jersey that is the most convenient thing, since public transportation is horrible. There is a train station near me, but my line only goes along the coast. If I go into the city (New York), I will take the train, and then travel by subway once I am there. If I go outside of New York or New Jersey, I will drive, unless it is very far, in which case I might take a train. I dislike flying and will only do so if the trip would be more than a 10 hour drive. Sometimes even then, I will drive anyway, and stay overnight along the way. It is also more convenient to have a car, otherwise I would have to pay transportation expenses at my destination. [fluffysue]
In our country, it is less expensive when one takes a public transportation than driving his own car because the cost of gasoline is much higher than the fare. it is also difficult to find a parking space, so it is better to just ride a public transport. [dorisday1971]

We really have no choice but to go anywhere we go by car. We live in a small, rural town, and there is no such thing as public transit here. When we travel long distance, we like to fly, because it's fast and easy. There are no millions of semis in the sky, either. (just birds, I guess :O). [sbeauty]
It should be a must to learn how to drive if one lives in your town and that's good because you don't have to rely on somebody to fetch you up if you want to go somewhere. Happy mylotting and have a nice day ahead. [dorisday1971]

I usually ride a tricycle, jeep, bus, train or taxi. It depends on where I am going. But I enjoy riding taxi. Aside from I get fast to where I am suppose to go, I am relax. It is comfortable and no stress at all. [izathewzia]
Everytime I am in manila, I always ride a taxi or MRT. I do feel a lot of comfort when I'm in a taxi especially that I am not so familiar with the place and people. But if I am in our place, it's always the jeepney that is most convenient for me. [dorisday1971]

I normally just drive my own vehicle even over long distance. I never use public transpo for short distances but if I do use public transpo it is usually just a plane and then only because it is quicker than driving. [tyopap]
It is sometimes fun to drive long distance while enjoying the sights of nature at the same time. . .. I don't drive much when I am just going to a nearby place in the city because I don't have the patience to look for parking spaces. Thanks for responding. [dorisday1971]

Travelling is very easy in my country. We have a lot of bus, taxi and van. I sometimes take bus or taxi. The big bus is a bit slow so when I am in a hurry I take van which is much faster. [willy6]
Travelling in your country must be fun and your country is quite interesting. The Jamaican music is fun to listen. I love it. Have a nice day and happy mylotting. [dorisday1971]

my general transportation is done by city bus just cause it's cheaper than a car and i can pretty much take to buses from wear i live to be anywhere in the city(Thank god for phoenix being a easy to navigate grid unlike some cities I've lived in) though the bus has some down side like you never know who's gonna be on other just the other day i was enjoying my ipod go to pick up some _hippie lettuce" when this fat cjick gets on sit next to me, this normally isn't a problem but see had a trimmed goatee a nice one at that, the rest of the ride i had to fight myself from starring at her hair chin, another problem is it's never on time anymoar expectaly with the times changes resently its an issue to get were im going on time now adays...mm i think i just talked my self into getting a car lol [souperhero]
there is always an advantage and disadvantage of riding in a public transportation. One disadvantage of being in a public transportation is that you don't have a space and time of your own. If you can't handle these things, it is more practical to drive your own car. Have a ncie day. [dorisday1971]

i usually prefer to go by bus because its a bit cheap wen compared to trains, autos and taxis and moreover i believe it s the saffest mode of transport in the modern days where we are seeing a lot of accidents everyday. [prawins]
Safe driving is the call of every driver. Whatever kind of transportation we ride, there is always that risk of accident. let's just all wish and pray for a safe travel. Happy mylotting and have nice day. [dorisday1971]

I can't stand public transport. I would rather bike it. But a pedicab, that's well good. [sambarwell]
I didn't know that there is also pedicab in your country. we have a lot of pedicabs in our place and many people do drive a pedicab for a living. I ride it when I am jsut in the village although I still prefer to walk within a very short distance for some exercise. have a nice day. [dorisday1971]

I dont travel very much, usually the farthest place I visit is only around 6 hours away, and I usually drive there. It much cheaper and it is not too bad. [wolfaaron]
I haven't drive for 6 hours and I don't think I can handle it. I just drive for an hour or two but not more than that. I usually drive when I go out of town but when I'm in the city, I just ride a public transportation. happy mylotting. [dorisday1971]

I usually only use public transportation for short distances. I like trains but buses and trolleys are more convenient and cheaper so mostly I use them. [irisheyes]

i dont live in a very populated area so we dont have buses, just cabs, but everything is so far away it cost 20 dollars just to get to the store, so when gas hit 4.00 a gallon i bought a scooter that gets 60 miles a gallon and use that. [max1950]

If I'm not in a position to drive my car, then I like to take the local bus. It's free for college students with I.D. happy For a while there, I was also taking the train every day; that was all right since I got a commuter's pass that made it a bit cheaper, but I prefer the bus. [stagewhisper]

if it is a long travel,i would like to take plane, it's faster than others. if it is a short distance, i would like jeep too, but i don't like drive myself, because i would feel tired. so, if my frieds drive, i would go. but if no, i would take bus, highway bus. [sinokirin]

I have been in other countries... I ride taxis and MRT in Singapore, BTS and tuk-tuk (tricycle) and even elephants in Thailand! I ride all modes of transportation here in the Philippines =) [sophie_dfuss]

Well, i don't have my own car... and my office is only a few minutes away from my apartment... so i usually just take the tricycle when it is too hot... and walk when it is not... but for long distance travel... i take the bus... that is the only way i can go to Manila from my province... and i don't like riding an airconditioned van because that makes me very dizzy... [aseretdd]

Hello, dorisday.I am a freshman here. And this is my first discussion topic.I am from China. In China, most people will choose taking buses or subway for a short distance. As to a long distance, most people prefer to travel by train, especially on Spring Festival.I tend to choose train as well, not only for its low charge, but for the beautiful landscape along the railway. But with the improvement of living stardand, an increasing number of Chinese have the financial capability to buy a car.So, in Beijing, the traffic jam is nor rare. [chencherry]

public transport (train/bus)is very convenient out here. in fact, the government encourages it and makes it affordable too. although cab fare may be a bit costly specially during peak hours and once it hit midnight charges. :) [czafle]

I like to take metro in my country, it is safe and convenient. By in peak time, it is crowded. So I may take the bus, it is cheap and accessible everywhere. [HelloMickey]

yes i ride jeepneys every day. cause it is most conveniet. i have lots of good memories on jeepneys actually. i think that jeepneys is the most important way to travel for most filipinos. this is our trademark. this is what we are known for. only on the philippines will you see jeepneys being used for public transportation. except for some or few cuontries who have ordered in our country also to use it in their public road. i forgot which countries are those who ordered from us 2 years back. anyways, i rarely ride on buses cause buses are used on main highways which i don't actually use or go to. and mostly we have metro trail transit which makes us travel faster that is why i don't use bus. i just use jeepneys cause most places i go don't use other way of transportaion than jeepney. [hotsummer]

For long distance I try to fly whenever possible as after all is the cheapest way. Once I am there if I need to go anywhere else I rent a car if I am going to a remote place not too well serviced by public transport or I can take a bus, or a train or whatever is available. [overwings]

If possible, I will travel by the airplane. As it is the fastest way for me to arrive at the destination. I don't have enough time to spend on the way. I don't have a long time for vacation. This is I can't afford more time on the transportation. I love China [youless]

Hey there! When I go out I ride tricycle first then I jeep or bus. I prefer bus over jeep because it is much comfortable than jeep. Well, If I'm just gonna go to Caloocan I just ride a jeep. I also ride the LRT line 1 and MRTs. I can reach my destination fast. Have a nice day. Happy posting!! [AltheGreat2430]

As i want to go long distance daily to my office i need to travel a lot. So i feel that its good to go by Bus or train better than our own vehicle as it makes me tired if i ride it for long distance. If am going for shopping, gym or to theatre then i would prefer to take own my vehicle there. Usually i like bus travel for long distance that to a window seat... ;) [jjstare]

We usually travelled by train because our travelling were always long distance. When I was on the train, I enjoyed the landscape outside. [lovecimi]

I travel by bus,the train is full of nutters during the day.The taxis are just to expensive so the bus is the safest way of travelling. Our train station is remote and the times of the day I travel they are empty sometimes with no guard. [suzzy3]

When I go traveling overseas I take a bus to my local airport then a plane. If I have to go to my home country's largest airport I take three trains and then a bus before getting on the plane. When I get to my destination I travel on trains and buses most often. Sometimes I travel by ferry. In my local area it is most convenient to travel by bus however I prefer to travel by train. Train is my favorite form of transport but it doesn't go everywhere. There is a train station within walking distance of my home. There is a bus service that goes near to my home but I go on a bus that is buggy friendly a ten minute walk from my home. [maximax8]

I live on the city fringe of Melbourne, so to get to work, I take the tram. We don't currently have a car, so if I need to get anywhere further away, I either take the bus or the train. [kriszelunka]

I go to work on foot because I live in my factory.others,I will go home by bus!I will buy a car a year later. So it is very convenient when traveling. [dcaisj]

This is just too easy. I drive. I don't like to be a rider. [leonelaphotography]

when i travel, i love to try all sorts of public transport. i try to make use of every single type of public transport avaialble. sadly, it's not every time that i manage to do this. in bangkok, one can take a bus, a taxi, a river taxi, a crossing ferry, a tuk tuk, a sky-train, the sub-way and the motorcycle to get from one place to another. i've tried all of them except the motorcycle. my partner is unwilling for me to try it as he is worried that the rider will just make off with me. lollol [applefreak]

I usually ride a taxi if I'm in a hurry. I ride a bus everyday on my way to the office. I stopped riding a train because I usually get hurt in the crowd. I'm more comfortable riding a bus now because I can sit and sleep at the same time. [angiemabute]

hi dorisday, when im going out alone like going to buy some items in the grocery, ill just ride a pedicab or tricycle..for malling or going out somewhere i always have my husband driving for me and for the kids too.when i was still working i always ride in MRT and fx van.. [jenisky]

Hello dorisday1971! I rarely take public transportation. But if I should, I find the taxi most convenient. When I go to Manila, another possible public transportation I would most likely take would be the MRT and the LRT. I actually prefer to drive on my own or ask someone to drive for me. I feel more comfortable and at ease. [dolce_vita78]
