When Going Away, How Soon Do You Start Packing Before You Go

I am going off on my hols on Saturday and I have already got everyone packed and ready to go!! I started packing the cases on Tuesday and finished them off today, so I am quite pleased with myself, there are only a few bits left to go now!! So my question to all my lovely myLotter friends is how soon before a holiday do you start packing? Do you do it quite early, like me? Or Do you leave it until the last minute and then panic pack?

It depends on how long the trip will be. I make lists early so I can make sure I pack everything. I have a family of five to pack up which is not that easy with little kids. For just a two or three day trip, I pack the day before. For a two week vacation I start gathering up things a week in advance filling suitcases as I go. This ensures that nobody wears something we want to take with us and I have to do some last minute laundry, lol. [jonesy123]
Oh I am bad, I take the "panic pack" approach, but then, I don't have anyone else to pack for but myself. I will usually pack the night before if I am leaving in the morning, or the morning if I am leaving later in the day. I know if I pack early, I will want something in the meantime. Besides, there are always things that cannot be packed ahead of time. Sometimes when I want to be organized, I try packing by leaving out a suitcase a few days early, and putting things in as I think of them, or after doing laundry, etc. But if I do that I tend to forget what I packed, and need to look through it and re-pack anyway. I am too scatterbrained for packing in advance to work for me. lol [fluffysue]

I pack the night before or the morning I get up so I don't forget anything. Use to make people nuts when i did this but if I start sooner I will forget something. [shooie]
I do the same.Because I use almost everything that I need paked, except maybe my horse riding or equestrian boots because I love horse riding so much! If I start sooner I need take them out when I use them.Maybe start sooner is right, but isn't that too much of trouble? [camilla_l]

Hi Gemini_rose, I bet you are getting so excited eh! Not long to go now! I usually make sure everything is washed and ironed ready but do not usually pack until the previous evening and then in the morning will add the last minute bits of toiletries. I even pack my cute doll clothing if I think it'll be a long trip! I will also make food for the journey the night before also and fill old drinks Bottles up with juice and like to get an early start in the morning. You have a lovely time, you deserve it. Ellie :D [ellie333]
If it's all the family I rather pack the day before. Otherwise there's no way to be on time. Once we missed a flight for two min. because of leaving too late, so never again. [overwings]

I would be very exicted about a my hols,so I would start packing quite early,do some packing day by day. This way,I will not go panic till the last minute.I'm forgettable,so I need to pack early in case that I forget something important. [gxnfly]

I start packing the day before I have to go...before that I make sure that all the clothes r well washed n ironed...I just have to put everything into the bag finally...I try to avoid last minute pack as ill forget things in a hurry then...at last I just pack up my thoothpaste , brush etc...so finally I can relax n think bout the trip...thats it.... :-) [icy_ice82000]
All I have to do now is pack toiletries which I will do tomorrow. [gemini_rose]

Hi There, I have to say, like everything else in my life I tend to procrastinate when it comes to packing for a trip. I always pack the night before. It does not even matter how long the trip is...I always pack at the last minute. Not only that....but I always overpack as well! cheers, [golfproo]
Like a spy, more than once I thought about having a packed suitcase in the corridor next to the door in order to leave witout worries. But then you think that you also have to pack that bag a finally leave the idea. [overwings]

Hi rose. When we go on our famly vacation we start early and check of things as we pack them. I have learned that this is the less stressful way to go. Seeing that it's so much of us there's alot to pack, and i have learned from past experience. So now we pack and check as we go, so if there's any last minute stuff {usually the kids} we dont have a melt down at the last minute. [dragonfly242]
I shopuld try that. As I always seem to forget something and it's usually not an important item but I have to buy one. Things like shampoo toothpaste or other persoanl items. I pack the day I head out all the time. I also leave extra items, like my bikes and Giro bicycle helmets last to strap and pack to the top of my vehicle. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ [webeishere]

happyGee you are an eager beaver, lol, I am not so organised. I usually pack the night before. I always worry though that i might forget something as I only packed the night before. I should be more effecient like you and pack earlier. So how long you going away for, it will be strange here on mylot without chatting to you on a daily basis? Or are you packing mylot in your suitcase too, lol. lol [kiran1978]
Thanks for the best response, much appreciated. This best response means alot as their were so many responses. [kiran1978]

We take a lot of Camping trips through the summer (or we did before gas reached nearly $4). I have my system for packing our camper & our personal stuff. There are certain items that always stay packed in the camper, and I keep a double set of toiletries packed & ready to go. A few days before a planned trip I pack up all of the non perishable food we're bringing. Two days before I pick up whatever other food we're bringing & freeze it. I don't pack our clothes until the day before, but before then I will have gone through our stuff to make sure what we want to have is laundered & replace things if needed. [eden32]

I start packing in the last minute, i guess i got that from my mom. it's not like i'm busy... i dunno why, i just do... that's why I end up going with missing things coz i never bothered looking for them...~~sigh~~ [chivolaski]

I will usually make a list of what I need to bring, and I'll do that quite early, sometimes a month in advance, just to ensure I don't forget anything. I don't begin packing too early. Perhaps a week ahead of time I may begin to pack some clothing that I know we won't use during the week. The majority of the packing is done the last few days prior to leaving, then the morning of or night before is a bit of a scramble to gather the rest. We often bring things that we're still using, like our pillows and blankets, and toilettries, so packing too far in advance isn't an option, that is why I make the lists. [katsmeow1213]
We only take our Bedding to be more comfortable. I have a contoured, memory foam pillow, the last time I tried to sleep without it I couldn't. Hubby can't sleep with anything but his blanket, he's attatched to it like a child. The last time we went on a vacation we stayed with a friend who did not have enough extra blankets and pillows for my large family, so we each brought our own. If we were staying in a hotel or something we probably wouldn't. [katsmeow1213]

I have a list all made up so that when I was to take a trip, all I had to do is print up the list and I'd know exactly what I'd need. I have a summer list and a winter list and it helps me a great deal so I won't forget anything. Now that hubby is retired from the army life, I don't use the list much now a days but I still have it in my computer in case I need it later on. So I usually start packing about three days before hand. [CatsandDogs]
Blimey, if thats your suitcase it looks huge in the picture!! I have never needed a list, which is quite surprising seeing as I am usually useless without a list of some description!! [gemini_rose]

The couple of times I went I would pack 2 Days before and then make sure I had not forgotten anything I hope you have a wonderful Time Sweetie, I will miss you but do enjoy it and relax Hugs to you xxx [gabs8513]
I really hope that I do not forget anything, I hate that. Thanx, I will miss you too, hugz back. [gemini_rose]

I start getting things ready at least 3 days before we are due to leave. I start with my sons stuff, then my hubbys then I leave mine till last. If it's just my husband travelling, then I start two days beforehand. Most of his work clothes are already washed and ironed and then I pack his bag the day before as I have him go through it to make sure I have everything he needs/wants. It's easy packing his bag than my own though lol [maddysmommy]
haha tiny corner, how cute! I usually pack my hubby's bag and sons together in one and I have one of my own LOL [maddysmommy]

I tend to start picking up bits and pieces and throwing them in the case but the main packing gets done the day before. I always have a list though but somehow always manage to forget one significant thing, which I then have to buy.doh I'm thinking of putting together a proper list that can be printed out and checked off but I doubt I'll ever be that organised.lol [Foxfire1875]
My hubbys friend has a check list he follows everytime he travels for work. Talk about impressed. I don't follow lists either lol. [maddysmommy]

I like to travel light(make that feather light!!)So the Luggage I carry can be just packed off an hour or so before I leave. The only time I was made to plan the packing routine was when we were travelling to Chennai for my Marriage.Oh What an effort that was! [nikhil_sun]

Since there is only my husband and myself now I start packing the day before. It doesn't take long to get together what he and I need to bring. I have done on ocassion done the panic packing and I always end up forgetting something. So I don't wait until the last minute but pack the day before we are going to go. [sunshinelady]
My Mom had ten Kids and my Aunt had twenty so they would be able to relate. I only had one child so it still didn't take me long to pack. I can remember Mom getting us kids ready to go on a trip and I don't know how she did it. [sunshinelady]

I usually don't take more then 2 days to pack... There were times I packed in the morning to go on a 4 day trip that afternoon... I guess it depends on how many people you're packing for & how much you bring & where you're going & what for... When I'm leaving for Business trip, usually takes me about 2 hours, 2 sets of business suit, few pants & shirts & hygene stuff... [sk66rc]

I always pack like early like you gemini. If quite far, I will get ready like a week before and have to have my checklist for everything that I need to bring, I am like this because I am very forgetful. But, when it's just close, I will be ready like 3 days before and same thing with checklist! Tendency will I will do it last minute, there will be several items I will forget and It's not very healthy for me. I will be stressed!LOL! [checapricorn]
I see..that's cool, maybe I am just very paranoid!LOL! [checapricorn]

For me packing up things is day before teh journey and if it is a very short journey sort off, maybe the same day also i might start packing up and so, it alld epends on how long my journey is and how long i am going to stay in taht tour of mine.. [alienstar]

Im a last minute panicker..thats a definate!!im always intending to be efficient and well equipped..but my master plans always fail me in the end!..the case just lays there..and the Dog gets restless because he sees the case being packed..or rather things being dribbled into the case!!!I get to the end ..then im wondering if i have packed sufficient knickers..so I turn it all out again to check...and this goes on...and on...in the end i flip the lid down and decide that anything that i have missed out ..well it just will be tough!!!and if the worst comes to the worst..I can buy another whatever it is when i get there....But if i dont get chance to say to you ...have a wonerful holiday Rose...enjoy every moment x [ruby222]
Thank you, I will try to have a wonderful time, fish n chips all week "whey hey" I cannot wait!!! [gemini_rose]

So that is where you have been - to busy packing to be on mylot! lol I like to try and be organised but we usually just end up putting half the house in the cases and the car the morning we leave! lol Mrs organised I am not! I do hope you have a great holiday honey! xxx [mummymo]
LOL Just so you know you were and will be missed! I look forward to seeing more of you when you come home again! Have a great holiday honey! xxx [mummymo]

hi gemini rose I usually start several days before we go but its been so long since I have gone on a holiday I have almost forgotten how I did it. I am one of those people who like to be ahead of things so I do not have any last minute problems. I am not as bad as my mom used to be. she used to go to the bus station or train depot two hours ahead of the time she actually had to be there.I remember when she and my sister and I and my two kids left tempe arizona to come to California we were at the train station an hour and a half before we were due to leave. can you imagine with two kids two and three years old. lol thats been a lifetime away. [Hatley]
I like to be ahead of things too, if I have to rush last minute, that is when I forget something. [gemini_rose]

hello gemini_rose whoo hoo! way to go to you! well i hope that you-all have a good time to wherever that it is that you are going. lol and when i know that i am going somewhere on a trip, then i will wait until the last day or two then start putting things in the suitcase that i think that i might need while i am away from home. and my hubby likes to wait until the last minute and throw a few things in the suitcase and then make a mad dash for the car. lol i like to think about what that i might need while i am gone away from home, i would rather have it in my suitcase than not. whatever that that is. lol and also usually when we travel anywhere in the car, we will pack down the ice chest with drinks in it and lots of ice, and we will wait until the last minute to do that as well. have a beautiful Memorial Day Weekend. [RLFinNash]
Ahhhh thank you, I am going to a place in UK called Blackpool, it is a popular tourist seaside destination and is great for adults and kids alike. The main attraction of Blackpool is a huge tower that we are all going to travel to the top of to see the view. Although, I am not too sure about it, because apparently when you get to the top, they have glass Flooring and you can see right down to the bottom....eeek. [gemini_rose]

I am such a worrier that I will start almost 3 weeks ahead of time and then yet, I will pack and unpack to make sure I have everything or if I can fit more into my bags. [kaysue4]

Mentally I start packing days in advance. LOL...I try to think of everything I need to pack or I need to run out and get. As for actually doing it, I wait until the night before. And even then I'm throwing things in at the last minute but that's usually the stuff I use daily. Have a great time! [Reesers]

I'm definitely a huge procrastinator in general so it's no surprise most of my packing happens the day before my trip. I do tend to make lists ahead of time though. The actual packing always happens very close to the deadline. [pixelpixie]

I have never been one to wait til the last minute and 'panic pack' We are going for a long weekend of camping, so I actually started getting things together this past weekend, we went and picked up a few things we needed for camping. I got the groceries bought Tuesday evening, and packed our clothes Tuesday. We packed the trucks yesterday afternoon, mainly because I needed his help to load the heavy stuff (have splint on left wrist). I got the house cleaned up today and all the laundry done, I hate coming home to a dirty house. So all I have is a few things to load up tomorrow. [palonghorn]
Very organized, and I hope you have a lovely weekend. [gemini_rose]

I pack to go on holiday on the day!! So in the morning i have the suitcases out and i pack before we go out the door. I find this works best for me as I then cannot worry that i have forgotten anything. There are five of us to pack for. When there was just two of us and just thre of us i used to start packing at hte beginning of the week. I then found that i was taking things out of the suitcases to wear etc and forgetting to put them back in once washed etc, so I though they were still in there!! So now there is so many of us i just put thnigs in the cases and hope for the best. I don't normally forget anything, and it works well for us. I do leave all toothbrushes soaps etc for hubby, that is his job when we pack to go away [Anne18]

I have always been the one to pack until the last minute. If my flight is in the afternoon I pack in the morning. If in the morning then I pack the night before. Mind you it's not panic packing because days before I already list i my mind what I want to bring. When the time comes to pack my stuff I gather them and tick it off the mind list. Works for me since I haven't left anything behind yet. [mimm45]

I am a last minute person. I have a tendency of doing everything the night before. Im pretty good at not forgetting anything to. *GO ME* LOL Im a big procrastinator for just about everything...not only packing but planning parties, getting ready to go anywhere...my husband is always griping at me to hurry or get things done. But we are never late and everything always turns out alright. [ambkeb]

Since most of our getaways are spur of the moment decisions, I always pack shortly before leaving. Sometimes we will set out without a destination in mind too so I would have to say that I never plan or pack ahead of time. [syeryn]

well, in this kind thing i think i am kind of moody person. sometimes, i will pack anything in the day before and prepare everything very well. but in another chances, i will just leave it out and pack all of the stuff few hours before i go lol [plumwish07]

Yes, I would say that maybe an hour before I have ot leave is when I start to packing. that is also most likely the reason I always seem to not have everything that i wanted to bring. [jer31558]

one day before, i start packing my stuff... [moon317318]

when im going for a trip..ill makes sure that 2 days before departure all bags are ready and on the eve..have to check again if all are intactlol [vanities]

lol..I'm an early packer(like you)...I'd probably start atleast a week earlier. Travelling with kids, there are so many things I need to remember and last minute packing might make me forget something. A week before my trip, I put things I will need for the trip inside the case...and keep doing it as and when I remember things I need. Then around 3 days before I leave for the trip, I get down to the actual packing and putting it properly....things I might need as soon as I get there...on the top so that I can get to it without having to rummage through everything. Things I will need for the baby during the journey in a separate bag. I'm an early systematic packer...lol [SViswan]

As a teenager, when I went with my parents, I'd pack on the day we'd be leaving. Or if that would be very early then the evening before. That went pretty well. The "packing" to go back is something I had the most trouble with. I've left numerous toothbrushes and other bathroom paraphanalia behind unintentionally! [aplaza]

I hope that you will have a fantastic holiday. Well done on having started packing and sorting out the last items to go into your baggage. It is very good to pack during the week before going on a trip. Otherwise people that pack the day before a vacation may miss out essential items because they haven't the time to find them. It must be a nightmare to want to take an item and find it in the laundry basket. Even worse it would be terrible to pack a case, weigh it and find it above the luggage allowance. I am going to Latvia this summer with my baby son so being under two he doesn't get a baggage allowance. I get a 15kg allowance, meaning one item of luggage in the aircraft hold. I can take a small item of hand luggage and this can be up to 10kg. So I will begin trying out packing so I can see if all our stuff fits my backpack and small holdall. The biggest thing I am concerned about it the weight. I know keeping my backpack under 15kg will be challenging. Have wonderful holiday with superb weather. happy [maximax8]

My wife is the type to pack a week in advance. Myself I pack right before I am ready to head out the door. I do not pack a lot either. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ [webeishere]

its all depend on my moods. sometimes, i already package everything few days before, sometimes in a day before or even in few hours beforelol however, although i am doing packaging in few hours before, i am glad so far i don't ever forget important stuff to bring onhappy [plumwish07]

A week before my family and I would travel, I would always make a small list just to have a guide on what I should bring and to not leave anything important behind. And then when I finalize the list that's the time I start packing all my things - this happens like three days before the scheduled trip. I think that's fair enough. [athinapie]

well i don't go away that often but if i do i usually get my bag ready about a week before then keep adding things, so i end up taking a whole load of stuff that i don't really need....that's typical of me though...LOL... [tattylashes]

I am so sick of packing because I study in one town and my home is in another town so I go home at least once or twice per month so I have to pack each time and I really started hating it. So I start packing just one hour before I have to leave and I usually forget half of the things I was planning to take but I come back soon so it's not a big deal. When I go for a holiday I start packing a day before but only things like hair drier and losions and that kind of things, the clothes I always pack just few hours before the actual departure. Fortunatly I have my dearest sister who usually takes care of packing the rest of the stuff and I must admit that without her I'd feel complitly lost when it's about packing, specially because she can fit in the same bag twice as much stuff as I can. [lorelai]

it all depends for me,if i was going on holiday say next friday,i would start slowly packing my stuff a little each day just to make sure i got everything and other times i will do the panic pack, which always get me stressed and worried that i not got everything i need.it like at the moment,im move back home for the summer and i am slowly packing myself so i do not have to worried so much when the day i leave come closer. [welshdai]

i prefer to pack early rather than having to be panicked at the last minute when i need to travel... i pack at least one week in advance so that i can make sure that i won't forget anything... i love to plan in advance and i don't like to take risk... so i guess we are similar in type then when it comes to packing... take care and have a nice holiday... [lingli_78]

How many days I will be gone for determines when I start packing. If it is just a weekend getaway I will usually pack the day before I leave someone times two days before. If I will be away longer then that I pack the way you do. I want to make sure I have not forgotten anything and packing that way gives me the chance to triple check. [razcal2267]

It depends on the trip if it's going to be a week long trip then I'll make sure everything I need is washed and dried by the night before and then pack the night before. I just hate having suitcases or duffels laying around. LOL!!! [bellaofchaos]

We usually start packing the night before and then just put the last minute stuff in at the last minute. However, we make sure that if there is anything that we might forget, we put it near the travel cases, so we will not forget, like digital cameras and mp3 players. I am not at my best in the mornings, so I find it best to do it before we wake up and then all we need to do is to dress, brush our teeth and our hair, put the last minute not forget stuff in the cases, put then in the car with our first aid pack and are ready to go. It does not matter where or how long, this has been our routine for a while. [suspenseful]

How nice for you to be going on holiday! I hope you have a great break. I'm moving in a few days and have been packed for a week. I'm ready to go now! I never panic pack, there is too much bad stuff happening in my life right now to add panic to that list, lol. [IlsaVunes]

sometimes it really depends on how many days i'll be away. the weather at my destination also plays a big part. if it's anything less than 10 days, i usually pack only the night before. anything less than 4 days, i'll pack on the day itself. however, if i'm going somewhere when it's winter there it'll be a whole different story. i'm from southeast asia so we basically have summer all year long. going to a place when it's winter requires a lot of preparation. starting from buying heat pack and searching for my long johns. then i'll have to take my winter clothing out from storage. all in all i start preparation almost a week before. [applefreak]

I am a wonderful procrastinator so I wait until the last minute to pack. My sister always told me to make a list of what I want to take and then take it with me and I am sure to bring it all back with me. So I wait until it is time to go before I pack, although I usually pack some of the clothing if I am going to be gone more than overnight. I have never felt a sense of panic since it is the way I have always done it and it has seldom been a problem. [idowrite72]

Hello Gemini Rose, I always like to pack all the things 12 hours ago.But there must have some things that cannot be packed early. In that cases i keep the list what i have to take. Thanks happy [naseefu]

I pack anything that can be packed early. I usually start a few days before the trip and finish the night before. If I don't start early I will forget something. I also make a list of things I want to take and mark it off as I pack it. Thats a big help. [queenofarms]

We just came back from a vacation today (Friday). We left Sunday afternoon. Last weekend we were pretty sure we weren't going to be able to go on vacation for several reasons, but due to some very fortunate circumstances (God is in the miracle business)...we were able to leave Sunday afternoon. We didn't even know we would be going until late Sunday morning so we had nothing packed. We packed and left within two hours. We had a marvelous peaceful and quiet time and came home well rested and very content. When I knew I was going to go to the hospital to give birth for my first son, I had my bag packed over a month in advance. With me second son, I gave birth three weeks early so I packed only after I went into labor, specifically only after the pains got to be five minutes apart and I realized it wasn't false labor. I was packing and breathing between items I was putting in the bag. At one point I remember the pain bringing to my knees. I breathed through it and then got up and packed some more. I guess you would call that packing at the last minute. LOL [kbkbooks]

It all depends on how long I will be away. If I am just going away for the weekend, I can get packed and ready in a few minutes, and will pack my stuff that morning. If I am going away for a ew months (I've done that before), I'll start getting things ogether, about a week ahead of time. [danishcanadian]

I start packing as soon as I know I'm going away. I pack suitcase(s) first and put away in the closet. Then its the keep with me bag that must be done in two days then off to the closet. I love to have everything packed and ready to go. I once had bags packed for almost a month before I left. It's easy, breezy, and I don't forget important items. [towfay1]

I am just like u. i usually pack a week earlier. I like to make sure that i am bringing everything that i need and that i didn't forget anything. [xixinha]

Well I believe that we should all take time to do it, to make sure you have everything, but, for me it does usually come down to the last minute. I don't know, it`s something inside me that waits till the "right time", I commend you on your focus of intent, I wish I had your organizational skills ! [wolflow]

Have fun Rose, please have a blast! [wolflow]

I pack my things at least a day before I depart but if I'll be having a long vacation, I would pack three days before my departure. I usually list down those things I need to bring to avoid rush and panic packing. [chrysz]

I always start packing one week before I leave for holidays. I have to sort out everything that I need to bring with me and what should I not bring with me. Lets say if you are flying to any new place you have to consider the local airport regulations and customs and also the foreign airport regulations. I always ask my travel agents on what should I bring in my hand case and also check in baggage. As I do want to have troubles in the airports and I want to ease everything. Of course anyone do not want to miss the flights...and I also do want to miss the flights because of the problems with the luggage. So my advice is do pack your stuff as early as possible and you will not be in trouble. Cheers [bertuah]

I generally pack the night before. [hockeygal4ever]

Hi gemini, I make a list first of what to take and then I start to pack about a week ahead. Tha's if I go to stay at my daughters for a week or so. If I go away overnight to my Dad's, I figure out what to where going over and then coming back in my head a few days before I go. I also take spares of things , just in case, like a spare t-shirt or knickers. Do you do that? happy [MsTickle]

I am always travelling so I usually keep stuff packed, and I usually dont look at my things to make sure I have everything untill a couple of hours before I leave, doesnt matter for me though.....I still forget something important grrrrrrrrrr.. and I usually dont figure that out untill I need it [wagster41]

I travel with my Holy Name Group and Super Bowl Group. I pack the night before I leave out. I place all the items that I am taking with me on the bed in a particular order. If gone 8 days...8-9 underpants/t-shirts...same with the socks. I want as less wrinkled stuff as possible. I have my wife sit on the bed as I indicate what I believe I will be wearing each day, while I am away. She usually catches something that I have overlooked (slippers, swimsuit, etc.). THere have been instances when I didn't pack something, but I didn't fret (was pissed a lil), just got what was needed when I arrived. [onetrackmind]

this is the problem that i encounter sometimes when i am planning to travel, i am lazy to pack my things in advance that is why many important things i left. depending on the travel, most open i start packing 2 hours before i leave my lovely home. i always lift important identification like my school ID which i can get discount on fare. [julyteen]

I used to have a boyfriend that did all the packing always. I can say, what a luxery. I just had to throw on the bed what I wanted to take a long, though I admit I was to lazy for thoise things also lol. No stress at all :)) [test1970]

If I'm leaving for a long time and i need lots of things then I start packing about a week early. I make a list and make sure I have everything I need with me. I also make sure that my suitcases don't go over the weight limit. If I'm traveling for a week or two weeks I usually pack the day before, that way I can sleep over it and if something is missing I still have the trip day to pack it. If I'm just driving somewhere for a couple or a few days then I usually back the same day, probably an hour before departure. So, I guess it really depends in how long I'm going somewhere. But I guess that especially by plane and with all the internation restrictions they have for your suitcases now, I think it's really important to pack very early and make sure everything is in order. Hello many friends here in mylot are going on vacational tours. Here in India our schools and colleges are closed due to summer vacation of more than a month. I am a retired professor, I have served in colleges for over 40 years. I love going to Puri sea beach, 500 km away from here and to places of pilgrimage with my full team. We plan things in advance , so packing etc are never left to the last moment, this is essential for nice holidaying. Cheers. [bhubaneshwars]

I usually gather everything a week before but only pack the night before I'm going so that I can vary it if the weather has changed. I usually end up leaving half of what I've gathered behind. I find the hardest bit is to pack for hot weather if if I'm cold. I want to put in jumpers even though I know they would just sit in the case. [forsan]

i usually pack a week before i leave so i can have time for addion and subtraction of things... Then try to see if i put the necessary ones in my luggage. For it a day before, i just check the whole thing and be sure that there is no problem anymore... Then the night before i just have just relax and prepare myself for the trip... [knight_rlc26]

if its going to be a long vacation i start my packing at least two days before my departure. that way, i have more time to think if there's anything that i've missed and i would have time to get it and put it in my baggage. if its going to be a short vacation, like a few days or a week, i pack a day before my departure. happy [secretbear]

i'm sure i will be the one leave it until the last minute and then panic pack. i'm not really like planning. i like free. Oh, free, it makes me think of Bree, one of the desperate housewives. I believe i will be mad if i do things like her, making everything looks good. i like to be the dandelion going with the wind. and i believe there is always alight at the end of the tunnel. Wwell I really haven't gone to too many places, but if I am going to go on a trip, I always do make sure that it's been preplanned ahead of time! And when that time has come about, I don't wait until the very last minute to pack, I usually do try to get all my packing and organizing done as early as possible to avoid any problems that may erupt otherwise. I hope that answers your question! Thanks for asking! :D [simplegurl1969]

I will start packing 3 or 4 days before I go. I will then list down things that I should bring with me so that there is nothing left behind.happy [nikna88]

I have to say right now that I go so few places but if I do go someplace that I have to say right now that I would at the very least pack in my mind... I am one who likes to have things done ahead so no I would not wait to the last minute to pack, although I know plenty of people like that. and no matter how soon I start packing I or someone usually forgets something Mooch [oneandonemakesix]

I pack when I get the urges to pack. It usually comes in spurts throughout the days before. I usually start right away and then come back to it a day or two later. As I said, it depends on how I feel. [TheCarter]

if I know well in advance, i will pack atleast 2 week before the travel date. this is actually in a relaxed pace and it does not make any haste. i like to atke time and rmember all things taht i have to pack [subha12]

i pack like 3 days before... and i try to be organized, only to end up forgetting all other things i need. haha :D [chiyosan]

I pack usually a day before i leave-few clothes and shoes [asawanialvin0611]

i usually write a list of what we are taking and start getting it all together about a week before, i dont pack anything into the bags but like it all on rails ready to be packed as it creases realy badly if i pack it too early, then the night before we go away all i have to do is put everything in the cases. [barbie84]

the latest I will start is 3 days prior, but usually one week prior. I just need to know that I will have everything I need and this allows me time to make a mental checklist so I won't be without. I tend to usually take too much but better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. I don't like to procrastinate and wait to the last minute. I think it is also fun to start packing early, it gets the excitement of going on the trip.happy [ryzach]

Ha, you sound just like so many people I know. I know a lot of people that pack their stuff days ahead of their trip. My mom is the worst. She packs her suitcases about 2 weeks before she goes on a holiday. And then for the next two weeks she opens them and takes stuff out and puts other stuff in. So it takes her about the whole two weeks to get it right, and then when she gets to her destination she regrets taking some of the things out. I just laugh at her. My youngest sister packs about a week before. My daughter packs about a week before. I, on the other hand, don't pack until a couple hours before I go away somewhere. I can never decide what to take so if I try to plan it, I get even more anxious, so I just pack when I need to, just before I have to leave, well about a couple hours before. But I don't ever panic pack as I know by then what I want to take. [chrislotz]
This is funny, because I am generally the same way as you, so it was fun and funny to read. A couple of hours is so me! Until this year. [belindabentley]

Hello, Gemini_Rose. First of all, I have to know for how many days will I be traveling. For example, if I am going to leave for a travel on Friday night and coming back on Sunday night, then I will just start packing my things on Thursday night. Why is that? Mainly because I won't need too many clothes, so it's easy to pack. After I have packed, I check if there is anything missing, and if so, I will still have the whole Friday morning and afternoon to get/buy what I will need in the following days. The tip is to make a list or a pocket planner of what are you going to need. Planning is always the best solution when it comes to making trips. Respectfully, Munhozmib. [munhozmib]

I always plan to do my packing well in advance atleast one day before but i would always act lazy to do so. As a result, i would have to do the last minute packing. I remember the last time i went home, I had my train early in the morning at 6am and i had to be awake whole night to do my packing. But there is one more reason behind it. If i would have gone to sleep, i would have definitely miss my train...LOLlol Infact, i am too lazy to do my packing myself. Whenever, i would leave home to go back to college earlier and go to my place where i work now, i would always ask my mom to pack up my bags. I become too lazy when i know there is someone to help me out Rest of the times, being away from home, living with my friends,i don't think i am left with any other choice. I don't have anyone to help me out with packing my bags. So i have to do it myself. I don't become panic actually but often what i would do is just stuff the clothes inside the bag without even proper folding the clothes. Obviously, in the last minute packing, you don't have that much time to put ur clothes properly folded. [vipulchawla]

I normally wait till the last minute because something I want maybe packed away later. This time around I pretty much finished 6 weeks before the date!!! [belindabentley]

haha... I wait until the last minute. But usually it's because I need to finish laundry before I can start to pack. We live in a small house with very small closets, so i've tried really hard not to acquire too many clothes that won't fit in the closet. That said, I probably wore something that week, that I want to take on my trip with me as well. Ha. Who am I kidding? Excuses. I am a procrastinator. I usually have it all in my planner what I want to take though, so it works out fine when it's time to pack... but usually, it's the night before we leave that I start putting things together... ♥ [dancingmooney]

I have basics that I never really unpack so I am always half way ready even if it is at the last minute. I keep certain clothing items just for travel that will work no matter the season and I only take them out to wash and then put them right back in the case. [shantiquarian]
