My husband & I went for a mini-vacation to a cute little place called Cambria in California. It is only a few hours from where we live outside of San Francisco. It was a nice little quaint town with Antique shops, gift shops, arts & craft shops, etc. Nice restaurants too. The hotel we stayed at was called the Cambria Pines Lodge. Our room was more like a suite. It had a large sitting/TV area with a couch & 2 comfy Chairs as well as a gas fireplace. I small dining area with a sink, coffee pot & small frig. The bedroom was nice & big with a king sized bed (it was heaven compared to our little full-sized one at home)! The bedroom also had a gas fireplace too! There was a door off the bedroom that led to a nice balcony overlooking the forest. The lodge had a nice restaurant, a beautiful garden that you can walk through (like a mini botanical garden) and a vegetable garden where they grow their own Organic veggies for their restaurant. There was an outdoor pool and a large jacuzzi too. I wish we could have spent more than 1 night there. We went this past New Years day for a little get-a-way. I'd definitely go back there again some day. I hope you get to take a nice & relaxing vacation soon. We are going to Disneyland in about 3 weeks! First time for my family. Only going to be for one night & 2 days, but I'm sure we will have fun. My son is 13 years old and he is really looking forward to it. [koalatbs]
my new co-work is from CA. he talks about how wonderful it is there. Of all the places i thought of going to, for some reason i never that of California. i think now i am going to put it on my list of places to go [34momma]
The last time I went on vacation was two years ago. I'm in England, and I visited a place called Beer, in Devon, which is in the south west of our country. I went to visit an old work colleague who had moved to Devon with his wife after being made redundant from work. Beer is a small, seaside town of great interest. It's on the Jurassic Coast (a coastline where fossils and dinosaur bones have been found). Besides the beach, there is a river inlet, and plenty of local fishing. There are some wonderful pubs and restaurants and all of them have great beer gardens in which you can relax in the summer. High up on the cliffs, there is a park, with a miniature railway, and there are more than a few quaint shops in the town. I stayed there for a week, and had a great time, joining my friends for pub meals and coffee and a chat at their home, or sometimes, just strolling along the seafront, taking in the sea air and the magnificent views, as the sun rose from the east. I like to take vacations in my own country, because there are so many beautiful and historic areas to see, which I have gotten around to yet. I love the coastlines and the hills, as well as the megalithic and neolithic sites, like Stonehenge, Avebury, Glastonbury and the many ancient burial grounds. Roll on summer... I want to go on vacation again!!! Brightest Blessings. [Darkwing]
I'm off down to Exmouth tomorrow morning for a couple of days, P!kefish... did you notice the weather changed today? Just my luck!!! w00t [Darkwing]
On my last vacation I went to South GA to Savannah. We went to Tybee Island, St. Simon's Island, and Jeckell Island. It was all very nice. I'm thinking of heading down to New Orleans or somewhere south to help with the oil spill cleanup. [OreoCookie3]
now that is a place i would love to go. my good friend lives out there now and she said that i have to come down and visit her, i would never want to come back. i don't know about that because i love New York [34momma]
My last actual vacation was solo and a yr ago..I flew out to California to see my gf and her daughter for a week..It was FABULOUS...My last TROPICAL vacation though was the yr I got married (2002). We got married in Jamaica which was nice....unfortunately we've not been able to go back since then... [Ravenladyj]
now that sounds wonderful. going to Jamaica to get married, how romantic [34momma]
We haven't been on a vacation in a few years. But our last vacation was to Gatlinburg Tenn. I love that place. We went to a comedy show in Pigeon Forge. Horseback riding in the mountains. My horse kept bucking because of the horsefliesshocked but I stayed up. We went through the shops, aquarium, played hillbilly golf, and just walked the strip. We stayed in a chalet that had a hot tub and jacuzzi. We had a wonderful time. I am hoping to go there again soon. [queenofarms]
well queenofarms i see you have been busy on mylot, your numbers are climbing!! i would love to go horse back riding. I have never been to Tenn. but i would not mind trying something new and different. thanks girl! good to know you had a good time, isn't that what's it all about really. keep up the good work here at mylot honey!! [34momma]
Momma my last vacation was approx 10 years ago. We have a beach where you are allowed to camp. there is nothing there at all. Just a beautiful beach that goes for miles and miles. This is one beach we are allowed to drive on if you have a 4 wheel drive or a dune buggy that you can get from the local ATV shop. We would get there before the rush started and pick out a nice camping spot under some tree's, and close to a fresh water spring. After we set our camp up, we would sit and relax with a Glass of wine (when I was still able to drink). My partner would do all our cooking on the bar b que we took with us. All our meat and cold stuff was in esky's with dry ice. We would go walking, fishing and generally just relax. We needed those times, as it used to take us one and half hours to drive to work everyday. Coming home after work, sometimes took 2 hours or more. [Goodie123]
now that sounds really nice Goodie. i am not a beach person but i like the way you describe this beach you went too. i like the trees and the fresh water spring, now that sounds beautiful [34momma]
I haven't been on vacation in years. I think the last place that I went to on vacation was Florida back in 1997. We really had alot of fun. We always do when we go there. I would love to go back some day soon but we haven't had the extra money or the time to yet. We loved to sit on the beach and put our feet in the sand and walk up and down the beach and get in the ocean every now and then. [stephcjh]
Oh man Florida! now i went there a few years back myself. I think it was maybe 1999. my old boss give me the keys to his condo, stocked the bar, and fridge, and my cousin and i went to florida and had the best time!! I am not in to the hot weather but we went in Oct. and it was just amazing that time of year. I do think Florida would be nice to retire at, though. I should check out the prices on some Florida residential real estate. thanks for letting me have such a great memory today [34momma]
I think my last vacation was to Florida to visit my family which truthfully is not a vacation at all. It's almost as much stress as being at work. I am guessing my next true vacation will be over the summer when I hope to go to Seattle. I don't know if it will work out financially, but I really hope it does. There are people that I miss terribly that I haven't seen in ages and one friend that I met here on myLot that I am very anxious to meet. Now, if only a stack of $$$ would rain upon me, I'd be all set. happy [dfn12968]
I here that the weather sucks but it's a great place none the less. I hope things work out and you get to go and have a great visit and vacation [34momma]
It wasn't much of a vacation but I did get to spend four days with my best friend in Hawaii, at her wedding. It was beautiful and wished I had stayed longer but since the hubby did the bookings LOL he didn't want me staying longer than four haha. [maddysmommy]
w00t Thanks to my hubby and his airpoints or else I wouldn't have been able to go. [maddysmommy]
You know, it's funny because we moved away from family 2 years ago. Every time vacation time comes around, we return back home! I miss being near family so I do not mind at all and my sons love their grandparents. We are going home again for vacation in the summer and probably for the next vacation. Maybe my husband and I will take a real vacation when the boys are adults. [kieungoc]
i know what you mean. i think if i was away from my family i would make sure that i would go home every chance i got. so i hear where you are coming from [34momma]
Last year I went with a friend to Berlin, Germany. I didn't have to deal with immigrant attorneys, thankfully. It was incredible. There were so many clubs, stores, and nice restaurants. The food was amazing. The greatest part was the nightlife. The dance clubs had the most amazing DJ's and they would spin records till 9 in the morning. The culture in Berlin is unlike any other, there are so many open minded and amazing individuals all helping to beautify the culture of the community. The greatest place I have ever been to in my life and I hope to go there someday. There is nothing better than taking a cigarette break at 2am in the thriving city of Berlin. I'm starting to get sad just thinking about it. [NewWaveRoland]
I was born in Germany. I would love to be able to go back there one day with my children. Let them see where Mommy was born and lived for 5 years [34momma]
Hi! I am also in need of a getaway! A summer getaway that is. My last was last year, my friends and I went to a beach in Batangas and then days after I've arrived home my mom and cousin and I went to our province in Ilocos and went to the beach again. LOL. I'm planning to do the same this year. Although this time, I'm thinking of having a reunion/get together sort of thing with all of my friends and we'll be staying in the beach and have drinks and chat and take lots of pictures and have fun before we all start working and applying for work. Cheers! [marababe]
oh marababe that sounds like a lot of fun!! i so go for it and have a great time. there is no better time then spending it with family and friends. Enjoy [34momma]
I guess I am a little weird. You probably already knew that anyway. LOL. I usually tie business with pleasure whenever possible. When I go on a business trip I will usually stay a few days longer one side or the other for my own personal reasons. I like to get to know and see the places I have been. My last visit/business trip/vacation was to California. We went in the morot home so we would be able to stop and see things along the way. We went out in the southern route and came back via the northern route. This enabled us to see the maximum of things along the way. We spend a day in Phoenix area. Went to a western village outside of town. They had authentic gun shoot outs, stage coach rides, panning for gold and a ton of little suvenier shops. It was a neat experience seeing how the old western villages were layed out and the things that went on in them. Then we went up through the mountains to Flagstaff, AZ. Had never been there just through several times. It is a small town with not much activity. Very clean though. We ate and stayed over night and on to CA. While there we of course visited Disneyland, Knotsberry farm, both of which are amusement parks. Disneyland changes every time you go there it seems. Also visited some of the smaller villages up and down the coastling of CA. They were neat little villages mainly consisting of small shops and eateries along the coast. You could have lunch and watch the ocean doing its thing. Then on to the conference for two days. Stayed in one of the nicest hotels in the San Diego area. It was being paid for why not enjoy. Besides it saved me gas money. After the conference we went to visit friends and relatives in San Diego, Bakersfield and a couple other little burgs. Enjoyed some fine visiting time and some great food. Again!! Then we started the track home. Our first stop was at the Grand Canyon. I have been alive forever and had never been there. It was awsome, everything I had thought it would be. Learned some of the history of the canyon its river and the indians who lived down in the canyon. Yep, even to this day. Not brave enough to ride the donkey down to the floor though. No regret on that. Drove around the rim and saw the canyon from all angles. It is beautiful from anywhere. Spent the night in a little RV park just up I40 from the canyon turn off. Then we started off again. Made it to the ice caves outside of Grants NM. These are caves that have ice in them all year long. It sure is cool in there. Something unusual to see if you haven't before. There were also a couple Indian villages in that area that are open to the public so we of course had to visit and shop a litte. They are always doing there dancing etc. I guess it is pretty comercial nowaday. From there we went into Albuquerque and soth in Socorro NM. My wife's family lives there and we visited for a couple days. Then the last 150 miles to home. The tip was great but there is nothing like home sweet home. During this trip we had our 4 dogs and 3 cats with us at all times. Nice thing about a motor home, you can leave the animals with an AC going and not have to worry about them. Thats it folks. Back to the same old grind. [eeyore39]
well now that is a business/vacation! i see you stay busy my friend. that sounds like it was a nice trip. i would love to just get in the car and go [34momma]
Well, it is just a short vacation with my friends and hubby. It was last year, we went to the province. We rented a swimming pool with a big cottage there for 2 days. It was really fun since I really don't get to see my friend so often because we've been busy. [jesbellaine]
Yes, next month we are planning to go to one of the pools here at Bulacan, Philippines! Will post some pics sometime! [jesbellaine]
my last vacation was at our province and in Puerto Galera here in the Philippines. we have so much fun there as we enjoy to do some snorkeling, riding a banana boat and taking some pictures. right now, our family was planning to go to baguio city (one of the coolest place in the philippines) and also to visit some of our relatives there. it's been a long time since i last visited baguio. as far as i can remember, i was only just 7-8 years old that time and right now i'm already 22 years old. time flies really fast lol [rhane7315]
Well I haven't been o a true vacation in years but a couple of months ago we did get to go away for the weekend and that was great. We went to Universal Studios in Orlando, which is only a couple of hours drive from us. We got a hotel over there for two nights and went to the parks. Even though there are many rides I can't go on I really enjoyed it. We were lucky since we went off season they weren't crowded. My niece who is 13 really had a blast with all the rides and meeting the different characters. Ok I admit I liked meeting Shrek, Fiona and Donkey not to mention X-Men , Scooby Doo and Shaggy or The Grinch. I'm a big kid at heart. We did splurg and eat at Bubba Gumps while there. The food was incredible and worth the price. I could go there just for that. Since the price for two days was equal to us getting an all year pass for residents we did that. This way if we get some extra gas money and such we can go back sometime this year. [emeraldisle]
me and my parents went to Arizona to see my two sisters...we didnt do much there jus stayed around the house and hung out and played games..it was jus a great time because we were with them..it was really fun and hope to go back there soon [twoods90]
My last vacation was the end of last June and the 1st of July. I went to Florida like I usually do. I attended my nephews wedding. My brother lives within two miles from the beach and my sister lives about 30 miles from him. So that is what I usually do for my vacations since that is the only time I get to see them, plus I always have a free place to stay. I have a vacation planned for June again this year, but depending on gas prices, I may or may not be going. [terri0824]
Last time I had a real getaway in 2006, and that was in Las Vegas, and I am way overdue for a vacation. I am planning to take my daughter to San Diego in June for a few days. [mbs730]
We usually try to go on some kind of vacation once a year. The vacation I liked the most, was when we went to Silverton, Colorado. We live in Oklahoma, it took us all day to get there. We loaded the motorcycle up in the back of the truck and off we went. I loved it there, we got to ride the trails up in the mountains, places that you can't see any other way, you can rent Jeeps if you want to, but I imagine it can be expensive. We seen ice caves, and found this little lake, that nobody hardly gets to see, its in the middle of these two mountains and it was beautiful. If my mother seen the kind of trails we rode on, she would have a fit. We did pretty good, I was scared at first, but I got used to it, it gets kinda rough sometimes. My husband has been riding motorcycles for years in fact he raced them at one time, so I trusted him, that he wouldn't knock me off. There was only one trail that we went on, where it was so rough I had to get off and walk down it, my husband barely made it down on the bike by himself. But I would love to go there again, and maybe this time camp. I took alot of pictures tho. [walijo2008]
well sis we've started a tradition now. we go camping every year and we have a ball. we take all the kids and put up tents, LOL and every year somebody has to show off that they've got the biggest tent. We go camping near the wisconsin dells so the kids can hit the water parks a couple of times during the week we're out there. plus there's lakes & rivers everywhere so we can get our fishing on. we do the campfire thing and roast hotdogs and marshmello's and of corse at night when the kids are nice and cozy in there tents I scare the crap out of em by shaking the tent and growling like a bear. I never knew why but it seems that kids sleep much better after they're scared senceless. Now the sad part is that My mom and I might not be going this year, with trying to buy this house and all falling around our vacation time and if I don't go the kids and a few others don't want to go either, Since I'm the life of the party and all. Hopefully things will work out fine so we can keep the tradition going. [blkcat1]
now that sounds like a good time. I don't know how much I would like to go camping. i am not much of an outdoors kind of girl, but the fact that it's a family thing i would love to do something like that [34momma]
It was last minute vacations on Aruba, great deal, good time. I am willing to go back. Next time I will look for all included, food is not cheap on Aruba. [polachicago]
i would love to go to an island like that. maybe for my honeymoon. and i will remember to make sure food is included thanks [34momma]
there is this vaction spot here in the philippines called boracay. it is an island beach where the sand is white and the grain is as fine as sugar where you can walk barefoot without that burning sensation even when the sun is up at 12 noon! full of coconut trees, pure and pristine clear water, not wavy very calm. there are water activities like snorkling on the side of the island , jet ski by riding a speed boat to get as far away from the beach and nestled on one of the floating bamboo huts thousands of meters offshore and jet ski. do para gliding and para sailing. and if you want to do some extrme water sports , one could ride a tricycle (motocycle with a passenger seat on the side)going to the other side of the beach where one can go surfing and other stuff.it's fun. [tigerdragon]
wow tiger, now that sounds like paradise to me. i am not one for the beach, but you made it sound so breath taking. [34momma]
Just came back from a long break to Europe. Still sorting out my pictures and cleaning out the dust that collected in our home during our absence. Man, the crap that collects at home when you are not around. It is amazing! Be a little patience. I am still trying to start a web blog or something on the adventures we had in Europe. I really do home I can get my lazy butt up and about to get it completed. :p [ahgong]
i so need to go on a nice vacation. I have not been away since 2003. i really need a nice week away from the house and the kids, and work. just a week to regroup, unwind, and just be. welcome home [34momma]
Well our last getaway or mini vacation was to LA to Disneyland. We took our kids and stayed in a hotel and did a 2-fer (CA Adventure park one day and Disneyland the next day). It was a nice little weekend trip. I guess our last real vacation was a few years ago when family came down from Louisianna and stayed with us and we hit up beaches, etc., and then we all flew back to Louisianna to visit family. However - that state in the summertime is not much of a vacation and in the future we have all agreed to make it a family trip somewhere to actually vacation - Orlando, New York, anywhere other than the South... :-) [jashley1]
i am not a beach girl, but i would like to go just any place that is not hot and sweaty right now. OMG it is so hot. i am so done with the summer already and it has not even started [34momma]
The last place I went was to West Palm Beach, Florida to visit with some family. We only stayed for the weekend but had a good time. We spent some time at the beach and got nice tans. It's the best kind of day light therapy =) We got to see family members that we had not seen in a while and it was nice to catch up with them. It was nice and I look forward to going back when I can afford the time and expenses. [optimisticgrl23]
my family live in VA. i want to go some place i have never been before. I want to Colorado. why i am not sure, but i think it's because of the snow and the mountains [34momma]
