i would prefer the train as it all the more comfortable,as it has basic facilities in the train itself like the washbasin,restroom,canteen,etc........sitting for long would break my back,i avoid travelling by bus as far as possible.(though my hubby says it doesnt make much of a difference,i cannot see his point.)

responses and comments:
I've honestly never really used trains or buses as a way of transportation for long trips! I did once go on a trip, in High School, to Disney World - which was 24 hours on a bus. It wasn't the most comfortable trip ever. I don't think I'd ever want to do it again. Now my favorite way to travel is by plane! I love flying!! [Jennlk84]
i also like to travel by plane(only there is initial-jitteriness.),it is so time-saving, but i dont use frequently because of cost factor. [riyasam]
i have never been on a train but love to some day .i have rode the bus for 18 hours one time and i didn't like it [anniefannie]
i lave to travel by train as i find it so comfortable and their are lots of sights to be seen. [riyasam]
My favorite way to travel is by train. During the day time I can enjoy looking out of the window and in the night time I can sleep in a compartment. I really love to see the passing scenery and sometimes I get chatting to fellow passengers. If the train fare is $50 and the bus fare is $20 I will take the train. A train journey is so much enjoyable than a bus ride. On a train I can walk about and visit the bathroom when necessary. On a bus I must stay in my seat that is not so comfortable. On narrow mountain roads I can get travel sick but never feel ill whilst on a train. I have traveled on trains around Europe, in the USA, in Malaysia, in Australia and in New Zealand. [maximax8]
i have motion sickness when i travel via bus but never on a train, maybe it just shows how comfortable train are! [riyasam]
We don't have that fanciful train here. Train is not the common mode of transport in my place. It is either bus or private cars. The train that we have here is in such a pathetic condition, the Chairs are wooden and it is not airconditioned. The railway is only few kilometers and that doesn't travel a wide range of area. I prefer to travel by coach or bus as it is more comfortable as though I am in a plane. [zandi458]
here, some of the coaches are airconditioned while the others are not giving the commuters the range of selecting whichever they prefer!! [riyasam]
I prefer train as it is more comfort and feel more relax .... [achinthya]
yup,i feel so too ,some dont prefer the smell in the compartment but it doesnt bother me. [riyasam]
I prefer train as you don't have to stop every time. But I don't really mind a lot. I'm not really picky how I travel as long as it's not that bad for the environment I'm okay. I think nature is more important than how comfortable I am during the trip. [Slashable]
happyin our area, there is almost always a problem of traffic jams,so a bus journey proves more tiresome. [riyasam]
Well train is definitely the winner in this case. You are not stuck in a single seat for hours. If it is a train then you need not sit there breaking your back, you can always take a brief walk and rejuvenate yourself. Also there is always a lot more room in a train and no one will feel cramped up for space. I prefer bus for short distances. Also if it is a night journey where you would be sleeping through your whole journey then bus wouldn't be that bad. But always train will be the first choice for me especially when the journey is going to be long. But I don't hate bus either. Its only that I like train a bit more. And it wouldn't surprise me if majority of the responses go for train. Happy Journey........ [aromalram]
yeah, there are various sights on offer,a train has routes through jungle and plains and some are spectacle to behold. [riyasam]
Train is my choice. It is always a great experience travelling on rails. It is a thing that has been taken as a serious business abroad. They are good at making the train journeys memorable. We have to go a long way still to improve the quality of the train journeys here. With the milling crowd and ever increasing population it is a near impossible task in our country. You can see the best international train journeys here. http://www.greatrail.com/ [balasri]
ya ,our infrastructure definetly needs improvements but on the existing facilities, trains are a better option, thanks for the link. [riyasam]
I always prefer airplanes, they are a little bit more expensive but saves a lot of your time. If you need to choose from bus and train, I guess I prefer train, because it is more comfortable. [soleya]
if given my choice,i would also opt for air travel!! [riyasam]
I've only been in a train twice in Mumbai and only for short period of time. The train is just basic there's no restroom and etc, lol. I think if I would have to travel for a long journey I'll choose train, as you said it is more comfortable than bus, but only if train is available! I have travelled by bus when I was at my teen and it wasn't comfy, but we don't have much choice because the destination where going is only bus or plane and that time we can't afford to be in the plane. happy [CJay77]
yeah, for the daily commuting trains, there are no restrooms available,i meant the long distance trains.sometimes of the year(peak times)it is very difficult to get reservations and then bus remains the only option. [riyasam]
If its choice between a bus journey and train journey I would surely opt for the train. It is much more convenient than a bus.As you have said you can use the basic facilities available.Bus is very uncomfortable for long journeys you can't even move just sit in one place for hours. In a train atleast you can lie down and put your feet up.When I have to sit like that for hours its terrible for me.Of'course travelling by flight would any day be the best as it saves you of a lot of time. But the cost factor is there. When its something very important then I don't look at the cost.My other option would be to travel by car.Atleast we can stop and use the toilets wherever possible. [biggerb]
nowadays sleeper coaches and deluxe coaches are available with all the modern facilities but i would still prefer the train(maybe because of habit) [riyasam]
hi, i have never ridden a train in my life. always wanted to when i was a kid they came through town alot. i'm not going to travel anywhere or anyway but if i had to make a choice between the two i would choose the train, i think. have a good weekend. [ANTIQUELADY]
when i was a child & the passenger trains stopped here my mother use to say she was going to let us get on one & ride to the next town which was 10 miles away but she never did. wish she had. [ANTIQUELADY]
Riya! I agree with you that train journeys for covering longer distances are better than bus journeys. Given the choice, I would not like to go on a bus on a long journey, as one cannot sleep, relax or go to washroom to relieve himself. In train, you feel much more comfort and you can enjoy your food and snacks. You can talk to your fellow passengers and conveniently pass your time. In trains you do not get pulls and jerks as you get while traveling on a bus, due to some poor roads here in India. [dpk262006]
Yes, I agree with you that scenery which we get to see, when we travel through trains, are really worth admiring and worth watching. I love watching big green fields and forests, while sitting in the moving train. [dpk262006]
hi Even i prefer the train for long journeys.we can even opt for buses, but that makes us very tired and we cannot sit for long hours.whereas in train,we can even sleep in the berth and can relax and there are more chances meeting up with new people and making friends with them. happy mylotting [23uday]
yup,my father goes to different compartments via connecting trains and ends up building good friendships,i am not at all sociable(in the sense that i donot go out of the way to talk) [riyasam]
Its been a long time since I rode a bus and I have never gotten to ride the train....I would prefer a train just because it would be a new experience....but when I travel I drive my car or fly on an airplane.. [jillhill]
happyi think trains would be a good experience, the trains in your place are much more sophisticated,do try it! [riyasam]
For travelling in train is preferable against longe distance buses as the train bus, as it contain all other fecilities. [pyarebhai]
now there are buses coming up which offers a wide range of facilities!! [riyasam]
I have never tried traveling through train... since the one here in my area closed down years ago... but there is a project that would revive the train industry... they are starting to clear the tracks... and hopefully in 5 years... we will be able to enjoy this mode of transportation... and i can finally compare which is better... a train ride or a bus ride... [aseretdd]
happythanks for sharing, have a nice day. [riyasam]
My prefered method of transportation depends on how far I am going. If I wanted to go from Guelph to Toronto, I'd just jump on a bus. It's only a couple of hours out of my life, and it's a lot cheaper too, so why not? Mind you, if I wanted to go from Guelph to Montreal, about a 6-8 hour journey, I'd rather take a train, as the journey would be twice as long by bus. [danishcanadian]
here, the prefferred means of transportation is train, bus journey takes longer, some of the roads in india are not good!! [riyasam]
Bus is the only cheap way for long trip here in our place. No trains has been yet to give a fast ride to those who are traveling a lot of distance to where they want to go. You have to ride a bus to get where you want to be. [technoobs]
here in india, bus journeys usually take longer due to poor quality of roads. [riyasam]
I like bus in a long travel. But sometimes when bad things comes like the hijackers and holdups are dangerous on board. That's the sad bad things in the bus travel specially in the remote areas in other countries but now lessen due to just terminal pick up passengers and check all belonging to avoid taking a deadly Weapons on board. [Bradpete]
For long distance traveling Train is prefered, as it will cater for the basic necessary arrangement., comparatively travelling expenses will be less. besides all other useful things [pyarebhai]
I prefer train of the options are bus and train. It's much more relaxing and you can enjoy the views of nature from your seat. Buses are uncomfotable and often filled with shady people. [Kathrynp816]
happythanks for sharing, have a nice day. [riyasam]
In case if its a long journey i prefer flying. BUT i must say that i really love to travel by the train. I have had nice childhood memories associated with the train... More importantly the cost & time factor also has to be taken into consideration. The cost of travelling by train would always be less than that of the flight. Also the train offers a better place to sleep. It offers a good and more importantly fair-priced canteen. And how can one forget the restroom. I suppose this is the most important factor for which most people would prefer a train over a bus....especially ladies. [vaibhavratnaparkhi]
i do agree,a restroom is definetly important especially for ladies and also when one is travelling with little children. [riyasam]
For long journeys we have to take into consideration the comfort first. So, as it is the train which is more comfortable for long journey. You can take rest nicely in train. Bus is I think make you rather sick for long jounrey. So it is good to travel by train for long jounrey. [sudarshanwagh]
yes,i do get more tired when travelling by bus ,both mentally as well as physically!! [riyasam]
I prefer by train for long journey. it's more comfortable, and also i think train is safer than bus. [joeyu123]
yup, travelling in rainy season is dangerous as landslides do occur! [riyasam]
I choose train but our train here in the Philippines is so old and prone to accident. We have the Metro train but it is for Manila use only. While on the bus I don't prefer bus and I never wanted to use it as my transportation, I am not comfortable inside a bus. [grecychunny26]
the metro rail is being work in progress,it is said to be more comfortable. [riyasam]
Hi riyasam, i would definitely prefer going by train as it is much more comfortable . I am not too keen on long bus journeys, use it for short distance or for overnight journeys. I have loved travelling by train since my childhood so there are a lot of pleasant memories attached to it. [kiran8]
happychildhood was fun,i used to want everything the hawkers brought and my father used to indulge me!! [riyasam]
I love the train but too bad we don't have it on our way to the province which is usually 13-hour bus drive. I would really love to ride on one... it feels different to have sit in a spacious vehicle where you can afford to eat and walk and site-see or even take photos on different places. You can hardly do that on the bus, where you've very limited in movement and you'll feel all tired after the whole travel specially if the road is not that good. [pickoy]
ya,especially when one is travelling with the whole family,we become doubly tired in bus journeys. [riyasam]
To be the most comfortable way to travel on long journeys is by train. Buses tend to bounce over the roads, yet the train goes faster and much smoother over rail tracks. Also, in the train, I can get up from time to time to stretch my legs and this makes a big difference when sitting for longer periods of time. happy - Derek [derek_a]
after sitting for awhile,my sitting area becomes numb. [riyasam]
I did a few long trips by bus, traveling for 18 and even 24 hours and wonĄt do it again. It is exhausting. I prefer the train where you have a lot more space and you can have a better rest. 300 or 400 Kms is the longest distance I would cover by bus. If it is 700 or over I rather fly. Air fares for distances over 500-600 Kms are still competitive. For less than that fast trains win. By train my longest trip was 33 hours including two nights. It was long but not uncomfortable. [overwings]
yup,in the earliar days when we wanted to go to hometown , we had no other option other than train journeys which meant a 2 night stay in the train but as you rightly pointed out it was not uncomfortable. [riyasam]
I guess I would prefer going on a train for all the reasons you have mentioned. You would have a bathroom and washing sink to clean up. The train doesn't have to make stops at red lights very often. You could move around more freely on a train too. [chunijole]
thanks for sharing, have a nice day [riyasam]
i ususallu prefer train because its very goosd and comfortable and i really enjoy every moment whn im in the train travelling with the bus will normally mAKE me un comfortable and also i always have bad company so i prefer train [Archie0]
yea,we do have our choices when it comes to who we mingle but in the bus we are stuck with our co-paassenger all the time. [riyasam]
I found it more comfortable in buses to travel in long distance (train here is not use for long distance travel, Phils). The bus doesn't have facilities like restrooms but it has stopover too for the passengers to eat, to go to the restrooms, and i enjoyed my travel using bus as the means of transportation. Train is more comfortable in short distance to avoid traffic. [glesil_00]
actually,i have found out that buses do travel faster especially in early mornings where there is less of traffic. [riyasam]
I prefer train anytime due to the various advantages u mentioned above.I dislike bus journeys as i get dizzy/headace and sometimes puke a lot and the afternath leaves me inactive for long hours. Its train for me..inspite of the dirty toilets and crampped compartments (here in india). [walnutbrownie]
yup,i think the hygyiene factor is improving, atleast in ac compartments, they have appointed people to clean the toilets daily. [riyasam]
I love the bus. It somehow makes me feel like a part of the entire journey and i love the feel of it. [joynatarajan]
thanks for sharing, have a nice day. [riyasam]
Here in my place train is not available but if it is here might be I ride the train. So nothing can choose here except to ride the bus for long trip. I wish I can experince the beauty of riding it someday when I can go to other places.I think it is enjoyable and nice. [geniustiger]
here in mumbai(india)trains are one of the means of transport and i have to say its quite enjoyable but one has to get used to the feeling like the crowds!! [riyasam]
honestly, here in the states, we might as well fly the longest bus trip I've taken is 3 hours to Houston, think the former roomie took a bus trip to visit family in Louisiana after her step-dad's death. What worked out to be a 6-8 hr car trip took, I think 12-14 [ElicBxn]
I honestly can't remember how long that trip took, it was 1983 when she did it. Now, the time I drove alone, it took 6 hours, when I went with her, it always took 8, but then again, we would have to stop and eat a meal and stop and go pee, so while I did the trip with one pit stop for gas and to pee, with her it was always a stop between the gas stop also to pee, and she never would let me get out of town as early as I wanted to. [ElicBxn]
The most important thing is there must be a comfortable seat. As long as I have my privacy, bus or train does not really matter much. However, I still prefer the train due to the availability of the restrooms. [whyaskq]
happythanks for sharing, have a nice day. [riyasam]
I have never taken a bus or a train for any type of journey-short or long I don't think. I take cars for everything and once a plane and a subway. I think if I had the option though and did not have to get there in a hurry I would love to take a train one day. I think that is something I need to do before I die. The train sounds awesome plus it is cheaper right? Yeah, I would totally take a train if I could. [csrobins]
happythanks for sharing, have a nice day. [riyasam]
I guess that I would prefer a train because I think they are roomier than a bus, but I have not really gone on many long trips before, and lost of time we go by car. [winterose]
after marraige(10 years)we usually travel in our own private vehicle but before that i used to frequent trains and buses. [riyasam]
i have never been on either i always go by car.. i have been by plane but i am scared of flying lol [moonlitmagikchild]
happythanks for sharing, have a nice day. [riyasam]
hi there is no doubt that when it comes to long journey-train is far better than bus.but for shorter journeys i think it does not matter much.in my early days i used to travel from mumbai to goa in bus-not because of comfort, but bcoz it was easier to get tickets and u cud also get a seat on the spot.nowadays i travel by plane.i think i must have travelled by train on 4-5 occassions only. [amirev777]
thats right, its so difficult to get a ticket nowadays during the season time , at that time the only cheaper option is to travel by bus. [riyasam]
If I had no choice but to choose only these options, I would have to say the train. I'll be able to relax, take pictures, sleep and have meals that don't cost me a fortune along my route. With a bus I would be forced to get off at a regular intervals and pay for meals as if I had driven there myself. [libby2009]
Personally due to having Arthritis, etc. overall if I have to travel a longer distance, for me, it definately is by Train. I am also diabetic and find I have a lot of issues by not being able to get up and move around from time to time. Plus I enjoy having a little more space to move around in as well. And have you ever noticed anymore for a lot of times, the Train is not much more cost wise as well. [KrauseHome]
yes due to health reasons ,i also prefer train as there are jerky movements in a bus and i have less balance, there is always fear of falling. [riyasam]
I'd like a train for a long journey,it may make me feel more freely. And,I like the feelings when sitting in the windows watching the scenery outside, which is more comfortanle than a bus.In addition, far from the road along the scenery along the railway line close to nature . [cconglei]
I would definitely will choose rail travel. It is more convenient and safer I guess. I have traveled almost all of the U.S. using the North America rail pass and it was so nice traveling all over the u.s with the train. Its not only cheaper, but I also get to see the landscape and meet a lot of people along the way. Trains are more convenient too, with restrooms, dining room. You can also lean your chair like in a plane or even much better. So I go for train travel. [anday0108]
hiya Mable Definately the train for me, it's much quicker. Not that I've been on a lot of journeys lol, but the bus is so slow and cramped. I hate train stations though.. ok if I'm with someone, but will never go in one alone again. Alice happy [Aliceinwebland]
I love train travel because you can look out of the window see new places and sleep comfortably and stretch your legs mgraham126 [mgraham126]
I prefer train any day for any journey even if it is a one hour travel.Men would naturally think differently on the subject Riyasam but somehow I have my reasons and I find it less strenuous here. And for long journeys there is no doubt that it would be train for me. [kalav56]
I would rather chose bus, because in bus, you can move freely, and their Equipment are in good condition, and they has an Aircon, to provide a better sleep to the passenger, and the way are in good condition also, so you can relax and enjoy your trip, bus also had a rest room, and also a food in the bus, so that you can eat freely and you cannot think that you need to buy food outside, because the food is ready. [Preciousgem]
Hello my friend riyasam ji, Other than local bus, we always take train between two cities. Train journey is much comfortable than bus. In bus, we can never stretch, where as in train one can lie-on bed. May God bless You and have a great time. [maygodblessu44]
I think it depends on the train or bus. I've traveled by both and have liked and disliked both experiences. [camomom]
hiiiiii...really its obvious that if you are going for long journey than u will prefer train because it has all facilities and u have seat to sleep in night. in day if you are bored than you can move here and there to pass your time so in this comparison bus cannot give any tough competition to train...really you should not go with bus [ashish1487]
Car or plane. We don't have a really good train or bus system here. [dawnald]
My choice for long journeys is train. It moves more faster than a bus.It also has space to sleep when we like without sitting for a long time. There are nice scenes that come on the way like mountains and rivers and different types of plants. In the bus we have to sit for a long time and it will strain our backs and legs.If it is an ac bus we will feel pain all over the bodysadsad [vicky30]
I try this two rides in journey, the train and the bus, if we our going to our province in Camarines Sur and any Bicol province, we ride in a train, sometimes air con train or ordinary, they have their foods there and comfort room and you are safe also there, you can sleep while you travel, but not to slow, Bus if we are going to Baguio and other places, it is safe also and have comfort room and some foods there even air con or ordinary, the safest way, and the fastest vehicle. [Preciousgem]
Given a choice, I'll pick the train. It's a bit more expensive, but the seats are comfortable. Most of the trains have 2 seats facing forward and 2 backwards with a nice table between each. It's nice and comfy. Each car has a bathroom. And if you are lucky the food guy will come and you can buy a snack. I try to bring my own food, but sometimes I'll buy something. The bus is just crowded and uncomfortable. Of course if flying is an option, I'll fly. [TheCatLady]
i would have to say a bus,but really anyone of them can be long depeneding on how far you have to go and where you will go. [annjilena]
I've never traveled anywhere via train. I haven't gone anywhere via bus in probably 25 years. When I did it was nice. The people were friendly and helpful. Now a days, who knows. Sorry I can't answer that any better. [Carolyn63]
Hmmm..bus journey is good for short travel and train journey is good for longer travels. As you said, trains have better facilities than a bus, so it makes your journey comfortable. Buses on the other hand and bumpy as compared to trains. Trains are usually faster than buses and helps you to reach early :-) [abetole]
Hi Riya, How are you? I agree with you riya, train journey is more comfortable than bus. We don't feel the tiredness even after a long journey. In bus it is really like a hell especially with kids. We were in native and we preferred most of the time train journey. You know the funny thing, my two year old son is always selling coffee and tea at home (lol). He is very happy to play as a coffee/tea seller because every time he saw the people asking for coffee/tea.lol [Sreekala]
hiii....according to me train traveling is best in accordance with me because bus is a compact form so creates problems like you can stand at a place when your body becomes tidy and facilities are not available and really sleeping facility is also less so during night it becomes difficult to have proper sleep. in my opinion you should not travel at night from bus because its too risk as accident chances on road are more. so overall seeing comfort and these feature i suggest to travel with train. [ashish1487]
The train is anyday more comfortable than a bus. I too avoid buses as much as possible. Not only because there are no facilities available in buses but also because the buses get stuck in traffic jams very often. [mayka123]
