I will buy a map when I arrive the destination. I think a map is very necessary, although I don't know how to tell the direction. I have to check which are the interesting places to visit or some nice restaurants or shopping zones from the map. At least it will give me a brief guide.

I always get a map before I travel to any place. I like to know where I'm going and get a general idea of what there is to do there. Having a membership over at Triple AAA Auto Club really helps out with maps and stuff to help make trips easier and more pleasant. [horsesrule]
Usually I buy the map when I arrive there. I seldom will buy it before the trip. [youless]
we havent travel abroad in more than ten years.. but when we travel locally... my husband and i would normally try to get free maps from the hotel, or from the local tourist information offices.. my husband already keep the latest edition of road directory of our country (which has all the streets, trunk-roads, and hi-way guides).. so.. we need not buy anymore maps unnecessarily... [4mymak]
That's a cool map and sounds like military mapwink [youless]
Yes i agree with you that map is very important in traveling. Especially if you don't know the place. rasprasprasp [lyzabelle]
Thanks for your response. [youless]
If I hadn't got it before hand that's the first thing that I would find and buy. Google show's a good map but the local version show more of their good stuff and places to visit aside from the usual routes. [ferdzNK]
Google Earth is a very interesting software. [youless]
Ofttimes, I don't buy the maps, I simply browse them in the web, if I could find one, the better, if not it is at that time I can buy one wink [torchablazed]
You really take good advantage of the internet. [youless]
hi there i usually only go to the places i know as i am a person that is very much like you get lost looking @ a map so i just dont do it. but instead i will go to the service station & get directions to where i want to go. latas lamb101 xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo [lamb101]
hi there i quite agree with you there, but i usually only go places i know how to get where i'm going to / where i have some-one that knows how to get there with me. latas lamb101 xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo [lamb101]
Normally I don't buy map. I will study my destination before hand, and most of the time will download portion of maps that are related, or places I wish to visit. And also the fact that mostly I can get free maps from train station or airport, so, it is very unlikely that I will buy map. I do buy travel guide though....and most of them comes with some sort of maps. [eltmin]
I just want to find more travel tips via the net. As to the map, I won't download it because buying a new one is better and not expensive in my opinion. [youless]
I always get a travel guide a few weeks before I go and make sure I take it with me. [colins5286]
Thanks for your response. [youless]
I usually pick up one in the hotel but I use an actual travel guide to work out what I want to see and I've never gone anywhere without one. The one place i had a lot of trouble finding a travel guide for was the Ukraine. That was about 3 years ago, so hopefully there are more available now as it is a very interesting country and I would like to see more of it. [Foxfire1875]
I think you must live in a very good hotelwink [youless]
no, i never was an effective guide or some sort when im with a map. hehehe.. you're completely lost if you're going to let me lead you the way with a map. anyway, i'd rather walk or ask lots of people on the road. that way, it'll be fun that way for sure. [thaMARKER]
You may be wrong, I can't know the directions better than youwink I count on otherslol [youless]
Hi youless! Yes, I always buy a map when I arrive at my destination. This will help me to find the direction easily and a guide to what and where the places I want to visit. And of course will give me an idea where the nice restaurants are and shopping centers. And these maps that I have purchased of different places, I take home for souvenirs too. wink Take care and God Bless! [faith210]
haha..we're so similar in so many things and that is so cool and nice!wink Take care and God bless my friend! [faith210]
I get a map together before I leave for a trip so I know the best routes and alternate routes if something happens. When I arrive at my destination I will also be able to find places locally. [howard96h]
Thanks for your response. [youless]
Hi youless, I also love to acquire map whenever I am new to the area..I love to explore these though, i am not very good in reading as well as visualizing it! LOL! In my past trips, I was lucky since it's always free and we were always given a free ride so, we were able to visit all the tourists spot of the area!happy [checapricorn]
That's wonderful that your trips were freelol [youless]
I like a sort of travel guide that has a color map of the country on a double page spread at the front of their books. Then they have a black and white map of each region of the country. They also have black and white maps of each capital or large city, often it has transport maps as well. Considering it has accommodation listings I feel that this sort of guide book offers great value. However when I was in Bulgaria I had one type of map in my guide book but it didn't match the local street names. When in a city I usually visit the local tourist office and often find that these offer basic style maps free. I ask questions like where is the nearest supermarket and the tourist information assistant marks this on my map. I really like looking at maps and planning travel routes. Happy traveling my friend Youless. [maximax8]
Thank you so very much for giving me the best response. I dug out an old travel guide today to answer a question about Croatia. Then I looked at the map and remembered all the lovely places that I went to. [maximax8]
Getting maps is a real help, as you said it will give some sort of insight in to what is what, but i feel it will not replace a " Guide" Okay, by the way, do you know how to find a detailed map of a Country, with reference to specific location.. For example, In china, Bejing, and in which a select town, containing details of roads, shopping malls, resturants etc, in the internet,.for free. I tried Google mapping..but it does not serve any benefit. Because i have got some online jobs to be done in this fashion. Any idea friend. Take care, and At Peace within. [saivenkaat802003]
Usually I bought city/tourism place's maps rather than a country map. Because no matter how details it is, it can't compare to the city/tourism place's map yet. And there are some kinds of maps, such as the transportation/tourism/business maps. You have to find what you need. [youless]
that is a good idea... you can also get most of the info through net, before you take a journey [intimate36]
Thanks for your reply. [youless]
hi friend, ya i like to have map of the location where i am going to travel so that i can enjoy more and i will not lost. it is very simple if you know some places like best restaurent or hotel , or park etc then you will feel more happy to see that and you you get more satisfaction after visitng over there. but sometime i don't keep map with me but i do remember everything becuase i have more idea about that place. [moneymint18]
In fact I always keep a map when I have a travel. However, I don't read it often because I feel confused to read itwink Usually I prefer to ask the people in the streetlol [youless]
I love maps anyhow, so I will always get a map of where I am travelling to, either before or when I arrive, when I went to Rhodes last year I bought a map because I had never been to Rhodes before and I took it everywhere with me and I marked off the places I had been to, it's a great way of discovering the island going to different places and also making sure you've checked off all the places of interest so you don't miss any. Maps are fascinating and can tell you so much about a place. It also becomes a great souvenir and a great memory when you come home. [wolfie34]
I hope you will have more wonderful trips in the futurehappy [youless]
happyYes that is certainly a good point. But friend, I prefer to collect as much information as possible prior to journey. Another point, if it is a tourist spot, I hire a guide. Have a nice evening.doh [bhubaneshwar]
A good preparation is always good to have a nice travel. [youless]
Not usually, i had rather go to the local visitors center or tourist center. [cjgrooms]
Thanks for your reply. [youless]
Buying a map is a good idea but you have to be able to relate what you see in front of you with the map. I think I will have a problem with that. I don't know exactly why but that and losing my sense of direction are my two banes in travelling. You do need a map and what is also a good idea is to get a written address of the place you're staying in. That way, if you get lost, you can find your way home. [Bluepatch]
In fact a map doesn't help me to avoid being lost, I need to ask others how to go anywaywink [youless]
surrytenly off course. i will buy. because i want to know where is the famous part which in this city. and it is easy to me for travell in this city. [fwangaa]
Thanks for your response. [youless]
hi friend, yes, when we arrive a strange city,if we want to have a good trip on some important place,we need a guider for our visit. So a map is useful at this time. When we have a map in our hands, there is no any more difficulties for us to reach the famous place which we want. happyhappyhappy have a good time [successlog]
But it is still a difficulty for mewink [youless]
not really..i'm lousy with map reading i will get lost more most definitely..i'd rather ask people than depend on the map [angel_of_charm]
I feel the samelol [youless]
i will get a map from the tourist counter. those maps are good enough for me to navigate around the place. as i like to travel free & easy, i tend to do research before travelling. usually i will arrive at my destination having a good idea of what i want to do or where i want to visit. the map will aid in my moving around but not much else. cheers ;p [applefreak]
well this apple is not that apple. the apple is my nick refers to the company. i love apple products to the extent of being a freak. i don't have a lot of their products but i'll get whatever i can afford. my MP3 player and laptop is from them. when the phone is released in my country i get that too. now i hoping to earn enough from mylot to buy a HDD from them as well. cheers ;p [applefreak]
yes, definitely i will need a map if i arrive to a new place i haven't been there before. of course i can always ask someone to show me the direction (trust me, i am good in the thing happy). but a map have to be with me. [sutanhartanto]
I am also good at asking people about the direction because it's easy for me to get lostlol [youless]
Once in a while but more than likely I will buy a city guide book. Then I get the description of all of the interesting sites, restaurants, shopping centers and anything else that is of interest to tourist, (bus info., hotels etc.). They also have little maps in them as a general rule so if you can read and follow the directions you can use that. I think the city guides give you much more detailed information. [sagesunicorn]
That's a good idea to buy a guide book. [youless]
when i am arrive in my destination i don't like to buy a map i don't know how to read destination in map? i ask some question to some people? to how to go to that place in that case i will arrive in my destination without buying a map?... when you buy a map you spend some money what if you have no money to buy a map all you have to do is ask to people to how to to your destination you don't need to buy somethings and you ask to person is free?.. you don't need to pay somethings?.. or to buy somethings like map?.. happy postings?.....happy [ken18neth]
But I think buying a map isn't expensive anywaywink [youless]
I can't think of buying a map whenever I'm in a new place. Hehehhe. It's not my first thoughts, or not my thought at all. [littlepinoy]
Thanks for your response. [youless]
I did bring a map with me when i visited Malaysia with my aunt... and it was very helpful in finding the must see places... we walked most of the time... and the we used the map in finding roads that will take us to our destination faster... and i think if i ever visit another country... i will take a map with me... it is more convenient that way... [aseretdd]
I agree with you. That's very good you know how to read the map. [youless]
when I went to New Orleans, I had a map before we went. That way I knew where we were to stay and where to visit. [sarahruthbeth22]
Thanks for your response. [youless]
Hello my friend youless Ji, I remember my father still keeps a 10 days trip programme, which he took more than 3 months to prepare, before starting itself, where each thing was planned, had many scedules like, members accompanying, programme schedules, places of vists, hotels/telephone Nos., medicines to be carried, cloths, routes, stand-by amd so on. So i too would purchase map before statrting and would be armed much earlier. have a great day.rasp [shalu1975]
Hello my friend youless Ji, My father is retired defence personnel. He takes many factors for even day to day's life. He thinks, job assigned must be done with 100% completeness. So long, he guides, we do not have any problems. This is his routine fafairs. have a great day. Thanks for compliments.rasp [shalu1975]
ha ha ha ha... I will try to google for one first. Then decide if I need to get a map in advance. Cos with the information so freely available now a days, there is not much need to buy a map. Unless of course you are planning some sort of expedition, then getting the map in advance would be necessary. Otherwise, if it is just a tour, googling for a map is sufficient. Then get the tourist maps that are available when you reach your destination will do the rest. These are best maps to get when you just want to visit the places of interest of the place you are visiting. So to answer your question, no, I do not buy a map.lollollol [ahgong]
That is a good thing to do. Especially with so may reviews and information posted by people who have been there before, you may even discover some little nuggets of information that you will never find in books or maps. Stuff like where to go for good food at cheap price, what to look out for when at the place... etc etc. It is always good to do a little research before embarking on a trip. lol [ahgong]
Well, I usually do my preparation beforehand. So that means I usually buy the travel books and map before the trip instead of when I arrive at the destination because that way I get to plan ahead of my trip and where I want to go and stuff. I love to utilize my time and do some research before I travel. [wondericequeen]
Having a good preparation for a trip is always betterhappy [youless]
Yes I usually try to do that. Often if its a tourist spot they will have small maps and pamphlets on points of interest at the rest stops along the interstate that are free. I often grab some of those before I get there. [lucy02]
Thanks for your response. [youless]
My eyesight isn't good enough to read maps, so i try to get as many written directions as i can, and to buy brochures and pamphlets on the area, to read. My husband can read maps and may want one. If he thinks he needs a map, he'll go and buy one for his own use. He's pretty good at reading maps. [danishcanadian]
In fact I don't really understand how to read a map. Because I often feel confused to the direction. [youless]
I have travelled 4 times already to other countries. Usually there are free maps and travel guide in the airport of my destination, so I don't buy maps. [sophie_dfuss]
I learn a very important tip from youlol [youless]
