The longest train trip I can think of would be from Moscow to Beijing on the Trans Siberian Railway. It would take about a week. I would look out the window, read books and chat to other passengers.
If you went on a long train ride would you get bored?
Can you think of a train trip that you would like to do?

That sounds pretty nice, actually... I wonder what the scenery would look like. I wouldn't mind a day or twos' ride, though I'm not certain about how I would do on a train for an entire week. The longest I've ridden on a train up to now has been 3 hours. happy [stagewhisper]
I think that the scenery would vary and one pleasant view would be a very large lake. A day or two days on a train is a journey that I really enjoy if I have a comfortable compartment. The longest trip I have done by train was Cairns to Brisbane 36 hours in Australia. [maximax8]
Hi Maxine, no for me being on a train for this length of time jus wouldn't appeal, I think the longest train journey I make is from Devon to London. Wouldn't mind going on the Orinet Express but that is it really. I haven't even been on the Eurostar. Ellie :D [ellie333]
Hi Ellie. I hope that you get to have a magical trip on the Orient Express one day. That would be pure luxury and you would be really comfortable indeed. I have been on Eurostar a couple of times and one time I took one of my recumbent exercise bikes on it from the Netherlands via Brussels. Bruges in Belgium is a delightful little town known as 'The Venice of the North' and getting the train from Ashford to Brussels was a quick way to get there when I lived in Canterbury. I wouldn't choose to go on a long train journey as I have young children and they would be very hard work on a train and we would have to take them with us as there is no one to look after them. Maybe we should find or get nanny referrals so I can have someone take care of them, occasionally. Your train journey and the places you went to sound really nice... wish I could have come with you as it sounds so good where you went [Anne18]
Yes, young children can get bored easily. On a short train trip it can be more fun on a train that a plane. When I was on a days train journey from Perth to Kalgoorlie two children asked every half an hour or so if we were nearly there yet. So I guess even children from a huge country are sometimes not so patient when traveling for long periods of time. [maximax8]
A couple years ago our whole family traveled by train from California to New York and back. My oldest son and his daughter joined us in California. Usually my sinuses act up on long train rides, but I brought along my sinus neti pots supplies along and it worked out just fine! My youngest son and his wife and daughter joined us in NM as well as myself, wife and youngest daughter. We traveled the entire way on the train. We packed a couple of coolers full of lunch meat and snakes and drinks and took our own pillows and blankets as well. That way we could sleep in the seats and not have to spend the extra money for a sleeper. Some people need to bring sleeping masks cause they snore so loudly! Anyway, the coolers of food also saved us a ton of money when compared to the train prices for food. It was like a continual moving picknick. We were able to get up and walk around and spend time in the club car and the observation car as we saw fit. It sure took the edge off the kids being able to walk around and see things out the window. Chicago was about half way and they had showers and the like downstairs in the terminal. We all took turns getting a shower while the o6ther people watched the baggage. All in all it was a very iteresting and educational way to travel. We learned a lot and spent very little by todays standards. [eeyore39]
Thanks for your excellent response about your wonderful trip from California to New York via Chicago. It was lucky that you took all the food and drinks with you because this was economical compared to the buffet car prices. Taking pillows and blankets made the journey so comfortable and the sleeping cars would have been expensive. The observation car must have been amazing. It was superb that you and your family got showers at the railway station in Chicago. Amtrak has a website and if people look at it they can sometimes find discount or great values fares. I have traveled on it in California and I found it comfortable and enjoyable. I went from Los Angeles to San Diego, then up to Santa Barbara, then I arrived at my next destination five hours late at midnight. I got a free taxi for half an hour to my accommodation. After going to San Francisco I got to Oakland then got the train to Los Angeles. The fares were very little by todays standards because that was in 2002. [maximax8]
I'm actually thinking of going on the Trans Australian next year when I'm back in Australis early next year. Unfortunately, I think it will be far too expensive, out of my budget. From the prices, they sppear to be targeting big spending passengers, rather than budget travellers. [mipen2006]
Thanks, max. I'm certainly keeping my eye out for one. [mipen2006]
Hi maximax8! I would love to go by train when I see most of Europe. I wouldn't think I will get bored because I am sure I would enjoy the scenery. I will also bring some books for me, as well as one of those new tablet computers. And I am sure that there will be a lot of passengers I can meet and talk with which will make the trip more enjoyable too. Take care always..God Bless! [faith210]
Hi dear friend! That is one thing I really should learn in traveling---to travel light! haha..Thanks for the advice dear friend. lovelots..faith210 [faith210]
It seems it's a nice train trip from Moscow to Beijing. What a long time and I can't even imagine it:) The longest train trip for me perhaps for three days. That's a from Guangzhou to Luoyang after I graduated from university. I wanted to have a travel there. Since there were not so many people in the train, so it was fine. I was excited at that time because it was my first time to go so far way from home. I love China [youless]
Yes, it is a long train trip through different time zones. I think the timetable runs to Moscow time and so arriving in Beijing I would have to put my watch many hours forward. I am glad that you enjoyed your three day train trip after your graduation. China sounds like an excellent country. [maximax8]
w00tI did a 5 day trip from Rouyn Noranda to Manitoba with 3 babies, when I got there my husband didn't recoganize me I was so white from exhaustion lol [DancingFeather]
lolThat's for sure..I was white as a ghost! [DancingFeather]
Hello friend. I often travel on a long train trip from my hometown to my working place. It used to be eighteen hours years ago, but now it only needs about fourteen hours. I like to take a train trip instead of a bus trip on condition that there is a berth ticket for me on the train, otherwise it is very tiring and boring. Take care. [williamjisir]
Hello my dear friend Williamjisir. I think a sleeping compartment can be really comfortable for an overnight train trip. Seats have lots of leg room but can be uncomfortable at night. Yes, trains go faster nowadays so that is great. I can see that journey time has much improved. Take care and have a lovely weekend. [maximax8]
Dear friend, I had travelled from Trivandrum to New Delhi in India. It is like travelling from the Southern end to Northern end of India. It took 2 days and the journey I also read books, new papers, chatted with other passengers, sat near window to view the places and sometime I became bored and I would sleep like that my two days went inside the train and also I have travelled in train like this for 3 times.happy [SHAMRACK]
Hello my dear friend. Thanks for you excellent description of traveling by train in India. It sounds like your two day train trip was quite interesting for you. It can be fascinating to talk to other passengers. I met two Italian girls that said the train was now their home because they slept on a train every night for a month to save on accommodation costs. [maximax8]
I went from Sydney to Adelaide via Melbourne by train as a kid, and into the country on sleepers a few times. I've been on the Indian Pacific from Adelaide to Sydney twice. I absolutely love sleeping in train cabins - the motion is wonderful, and it's so interesting looking out the window as you go along. (I'm still a kid - just a bigger, older one now ... lol.) I would love to do some of the train trips in Canada. The scenery is spectacular. Probably the best train I ever went on was in Switzerland, up the Jungfrau, about thirty years ago. That was incredible. It started as a normal train, then got hitched to a cable, and we went right through the face of the mountain up on to the top of the glacier. Just amazing. [penny64]
if im getting a seat deffenitely i'll fell into sleep soon hehe [amyshameer]
I would like to do across the US, then across Canada, then down Mexico, then down South America. I would like to stop several times, like at least once a day and see things, eat places, go for walks. But just to ride, from Plattsburgh to Saranac Lake or Lake Placid is far enough. One day, I hope to Plattsburgh to Westport, see a Play and then back. [writersedge]
That sounds like a wonderful trip on a train my friend, I always think it's an adventure going on a train in a foreign country. In the Uk I have done plenty of long journeys, years and years ago when I was about 4 and trains were a lot slower we caught a train from Paddington to Cornwall and it took about 5 hours, it was a very very slow journey and I think I got irritable being only 4 I just wanted to be on the beach with my bucket and spade not stuck on a hot carriage going nowhere fast! Nowadays I think the only train trip I would love to do is the Orient Express. I would also love to travel on one of those double decker trains again, I did before in Amsterdam, but sadly it was only a short hop. So if I did it again I would make sure it was a much longer journey. I wish they had double decker trains in the UK my friend, they sure are fun! [wolfie34]
i really love to journey by train...especially long trips..the book of ma favorite authors in ma hand..those windows for gazing at peaceful sleeps are beautiful experience [jaffna]

[xXxMikesWifeyxXx]
The longest journey I have done in train was about 2000 Miles. Oh it was so difficult.:) [loveshoby]
yea if its a long journey then we ought2go ...it ll b really borin but no other way airfares are really costly thse days...maybe if ther r some nice girls it wont be bad...lol [srini33333]
I could go for a train trip. What with the refreshing and verdant scenery. It would be a great plus to have to ride onto those that are smoothly running and well-maintained units. A nice compartment and well thought of and prepared food. [fordham08]
well i have been on a train from France to Germany and it felt like forever, i cannot even say how long it took.....never again.... [tattylashes]
Saviour-V teleports in... So far, the only long train trips I've been making so far happen to be the ones from Malaysia to Singapore. Technically, they are long, but I think there are far better train trips elsewhere. Slight deviation before I continue - you sure have been making more discussions than me. Maybe you've been getting more earnings than I have, I presume. Getting back to the topic, such trips were done during the night back in Malaysia, and we'd arrive in Singapore early the next day. So far, we've managed to secure sleeping bunks, but not the first-class ones, sadly. The trains we use to get to Singapore are a bit old, though...and I have seen a couple of roaches on board, once or twice. The food in the cafeteria needs a whole lot of work. If I had my own money to open up a proper railway, I'd make it comfortable, and affordable to the average Malaysian citizen. Might encourage them to take trains more, if you ask me. Saviour-V teleports out... [SaviourV]
and how you think of london to bangkok by train? [somekindofsuperstar]
i havent tried it. but, i think it would be fun. as long as the train is with complete facilities and comfty. food served and the seats can be adjusted into a lying bed hahaha. [zeny_zion]
I have never traveled by train. I think it might be fun. Like a real adventure, if I could find the right place for me to go. Might even be a nice romantic thing to do with my hubby someday. Yes, I think I would go! [ersmommy1]
I would like to make it a holiday. Just sitting on the train for a week and watching the scenery we go by, would be a holiday for me, just the train ride. I have never been on a train but I would like to. I have actually talked to my husband about it and told him I would love to take a train to British Columbia, going through the mountains and just sitting back and watching. Enjoying it and not having to be the one to drive and not be able to see everything because of having to concentrate on the road. My sister-in-law and her husband go on a train trip every year, up north in Manitoba. They go to see the polar bears. It is a three day train ride with a stop for a two day stop over and then they go for another three days coming home. They get to see a lot of polar Bears while on the train and they go on a bus tour also to see them, while they are on their two day stop over. Maybe one day I can go on a train ride. I think it would be fun. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Have a good day mylotting, Chris [chrislotz]
Hi, I too would like a Long Train Trip ;if the Train has : => Proper facilities for Bathroom => Proper Sleeping Facility => Good Food. In short , a Luxury Train so that my Journey is very very comfortable . Of course;I should also have sufficient money in my account too. [sweety_81]
One of the biggest advantage of traveling by Train is that we get to view many sceneries as we pass by different Areas . [sweety_81]
